Well here we are, almost 9 months on from the referendum & A50 is finally set to be triggered this month.
We've had petitions, marches, tantrums & tears, from the hardcore remainers desperately trying to stop the will of the people, but they can't.

So let's get the champagne out of the cellar ready & waiting - this is the last Brexit Arms thread so let's celebrate!

Please before cheering just think about those here who now have no idea if they can remain. I don't mind Brexit...I was very much on the fence when it came to the referendum but I would so much have liked to see those already working and living here given some security. I don't think it would have held up the triggering of A50 unnecessarily though.

As it is we look as though we will raise two fingers to many folk and that makes me ashamed of my country quite honestly.

Let's Brexit with some humanity at least.

Can't cheer along with others while watching a good friend struggle because she doesn't know if her future is secure.

Alfieisnoisy · 13/03/2017 20:35

...and Gina Miller just asked for a point of law to be clarified. That's what was voted for...British courts and lawyers making their own decisions, all this Gina Miller and Glenn Close stuff is a bit silly.

But as you were.....

surferjet · 13/03/2017 21:22

Alfieisnoisy

I agree. I'm all for EU citizens who were settled here before the referendum to be allowed to stay.

Alfie I would like to see all EU nationals in the UK assured of their rights to stay as soon as possible. I believe polls show that the vast proportion of the population feel likewise.

My belief is that this is what will happen, soon after A50 is triggered. Fwiw, I think if the Lords had kept to a single amendment on this, they may well have got it through.

That said, I am delighted that the legislation to trigger A50 has now got through the HoC and we are on our way to leaving the EU.

boredofbrexit · 13/03/2017 21:28

I'm glad that A50 can be served so we can now start to reach an agreement to secure the futures of UK citizens currently residing in EU.

Alfieisnoisy · 13/03/2017 21:32

Fingers crossed for that.

In which case I am more than happy with Brexit getting underway.

SemiPermanent · 13/03/2017 21:51

I have images of Gina Miller rearing up like Glenn Close

😂😂

SemiPermanent · 13/03/2017 21:53

Alfie, fwiw I'm another who wants to see the EU citizens and their right to remain sorted as quickly as possible. Smile

time4chocolate · 13/03/2017 21:55

Alfie - agree with that and having followed these threads closely for the last few months I think EU citizens having a right to stay is something we have all been in agreement on from the start (and I haven't read anything yet anywhere which would make me think this wouldn't happen). Heck, my BFF is German and her 3 dcs were born in Germany, she doesn't want to leave and I don't want her too either.

I would like to see us just get on with it and enough of being in limbo land.

boredofbrexit · 13/03/2017 22:20

Passed through HoL.

Alfieisnoisy · 13/03/2017 22:24

HoL just passed it. Fingers crossed now that it's a smooth exit with all sides getting fair treatment.

CardinalSin · 13/03/2017 22:29

Ah, more unicorns and everlasting cake...

Anon1234567890 · 13/03/2017 22:48

What the flip, a picture of Gina Miller and Glenn Close is now offensive?

MN is not impartial.

"I have images of Gina Miller rearing up like Glenn Close" - guess we are hate spreading war mongers.

boredofbrexit · 13/03/2017 23:07

Pah, caught by the thought police.

Anyway, with a thought to my friend Claig, I bid you all goodnight.

Tomorrow is another dayWink

surferjet · 13/03/2017 23:24

Does anyone on here understand Nicola sturgeon? She wants independence from the UK so she can be told what to do by Europe Confused. Bonkers or what?
& then there's the chance the EU will tell them to get lost.
Anyway, with memories of Claig Wine......tomorrow is indeed another day.

Night all 🇬🇧

scaryteacher · 13/03/2017 23:42

Bear Had we voted to stay in the terrain was still uncharted with the move to QMV, and further enlargement on the cards. I note you ignore my question about where we would be in a decade if the vote had been to remain?

What don't you grasp about the Commission being inimical to change? It is just not on their agenda. Had it been, then at the merest whiff of one of the largest net contributors leaving, they would have started to really discuss change and offer meaningful concessions, but they didn't, hence Brexit. The UK has been trying to effect change from within the EU for a very long time, with little success.

scaryteacher · 13/03/2017 23:54

Surferjet The Commission said today the 'Barrosso' rules would apply, so that Scotland would have to apply to accede again, and not until 2021 at the earliest. They would also have to apply to rejoin NATO, as they would cease being a member upon independence.

Scotland would need a central bank and a new currency, and there would be a hard border with the rUK. No Barnett formula dosh either,c and I understand the debt levels aren't good either.

scaryteacher · 13/03/2017 23:56

All those who want EU citizens to stay.....the PM had agreements with at least 20 of the other EU member States to sort this back in November. It was blocked by Tusk and Merkel.

SemiPermanent · 14/03/2017 00:02

It's ok Scary - re NATO, a poster on the other thread said that they suspect Scotland is more useful to NATO than vice versa.

I'm perplexed as to why tbh.

TheFullMrExit · 14/03/2017 01:10

The bottom line is whatever does or doesn't come out of the EU on UK nationals in the EU, - there is simply no way "we" are going to chuck EU nationals out, its not cricket, we wouldn't do it.

TheFullMrExit · 14/03/2017 01:11

Heard someone saying NS using Brexit as a trojan horse to get Independance through
