Informal Roman - good work on here this morning - you've been really made to work for it! Smile

surferjet · 08/01/2017 10:59

The DM are probably right. Why wouldn't they be?

OP posts:
InfiniteSheldon · 08/01/2017 11:18

You don't need to read the mail link tho. If you are interested then any report that states statistics invites you to look at the source in this case the source was a very small sample population (statistics fail 101) from a biased source (epic
statistics fail ) and reported not actual crimes (fail number three). We live in the most liberal, least racist, sexist times and country wilfully ignoring that and pandering to the faux liberal masses has led to a huge schism in our society. Your anecdotal evidence @Kaija whilst sad is just that anecdotal. I can assure you my dh is a God he's gorgeous, kind, hard working absolutely amazing in bed a fantastic step father, father and now grandfather. Doesn't mean he is a God tho (capitals intended multi deities in Sheldon's world).

InformalRoman · 08/01/2017 11:23

The DM are only right to rubbish the 58% figure (an increase of reports via True Vision from 54 to 85 over a 4 day period), but as usual they have taken a nugget of information and extrapolated it to draw an entirely false conclusion.

InformalRoman · 08/01/2017 11:43

But Infinite the 58% figure is from a very small sample from a single source over 4 days and therefore is inreluable. The 41% figure is from crimes reported to the police during the month of July 2016 compared to July 2015, and it's around 5500 hate crimes being reported in July 2016 compared to around 3900 in July 2015 from the graphs provided in the ONS reports.

You're comparing two entirely different sets of data - one is statistically insignificant, and one isn't. Maybe you should have paid attention in your Stats 101 class?

InformalRoman · 08/01/2017 11:50

unreliable not unreluable.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 08/01/2017 11:53

you didn't answer any of the points

I must admit I have also been hounded to answer points, and its sort of like a head master asking child to explain themselves for their naughty transgression.

Why. Why do remainers on this board - (some of them of course) feel its OK to hound leavers over and over for answers. I understand you may be scared and angry at the result but hounding leavers on this thread who want to chat and have a laugh about the wonderful result sounds desperate. Like you are lost in the dark fumbling round for answers.

I mean this in a kind way - debate is one thing and wonderful, but hounding posters for answers and meaning over and over is in my view poor ettiqute for the boards. Its also odd, the answers are everywhere out there, its not like hidden info.....You will have heard it all before, this is why it seems to me you want to punish leave voters on here....I could be wrong but this is what it comes across as. Xmas Smile

Maybe leave posters on here would love to have some answers on why on earth anyone can believe in the EU, but they would restrain themselves from asking over and over and over again.

howabout · 08/01/2017 11:59

My DH is half-French tho Infinite Grin.

Bearbehind · 08/01/2017 12:02

elf, as you are referring to me, I'd like to point out you made a comment that included the point that there are many positives to leaving the EU.

I asked what these were, you ignored me, I asked again, you waffled about doing my own research, end of conversation- that's not 'hounding', its discussion.

Debate can't happen if you say something you can't back up.

There's been a lot of that on here lately and it's beyond tedious.

still, our illustrious leader is full of waffle as evidenced on Sky News this morning so I guess we shouldn't expect more from others.

DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 12:17

The thing that I said about not answering any of the points was because Mango felt the need to make a sarcastic comment regarding my post, but didn't actually deal with anything that was in it.

"Maybe leave posters on here would love to have some answers on why on earth anyone can believe in the EU."

This has been spelled out very clearly on many occasions. I think lots of remainers are wondering how anyone can justify a leave vote without giving reasons that have been thoroughly debunked.

howabout · 08/01/2017 12:23

Didn't watch TM but just read the bbc reporting of it. What is interesting is how differently different people interpret what are being reported by the bbc as fairly clear statements.

Bearbehind · 08/01/2017 12:28

Darth, it's pointless hoping to engage in discussion on this thread really.

The repeated instruction for Remainers to go and look up things for themselves makes it blatantly obvious those who quoted them are unable to substantiate them.

elf summed it up really with leavers on this thread who want to chat and have a laugh about the wonderful result

It's pitiful that we haven't moved on from it being a wonderful result after 6 months to there being a more concrete vision of the future.

The fact is, the 'wonderful result' means nothing more than being able to say we're no longer in the EU and the huge majority of Leavers genuinely don't seem to give a shit about anything else.....well, until the repercussions start to affect them personally that is.

Time will tell.

DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 12:28

As far as I can see, and what I head listening to it, she hasn't said anything at all, apart from the bit about we are not reatining any parts of EU membership, which indicates totally out of the free market and customs union.

DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 12:30

Well they can say what they like about having a laugh about the wonderful results, but its an open thread and we can continue to question and challenge the assertions made.

They don't seem to like critical analysis of their assertions.

surferjet · 08/01/2017 12:37

This isn't a thread for in depth analysis and constant arguing over the same things.

Please, remainers, go and start your own thread, because if you continue to crash this one all that will happen is leavers will just ignore you until you ( hopefully ) go away.

OP posts:
DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 12:39

Its forum for open debate, you can't tell people what to post or not to post.

Bearbehind · 08/01/2017 12:44

As far as I can see, and what I head listening to it, she hasn't said anything at all

That was my take on it too, more waffle, with a definite undercurrent of you chose this with the reinforcement of the fact the people want this. It's definitely her get out if jail card.

surfer you started these threads under the guise of it being a place for everyone to discuss Brexit. We all know you only ever wanted a little coven for Leavers only- unfortunately for you, you can't restrict posters on this forum.

I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction when the Supreme Court ruling scuppers TM's plans as I'm convinced it will.

Inkanta · 08/01/2017 12:46

'Well they can say what they like about having a laugh about the wonderful results, but its an open thread and we can continue to question and challenge the assertions made.'

Well yes, it's an open thread and wild horses wouldn't stop you DARTH summarising your critique on here!

Can you not lighten up though - this is supposed be a thread metaphorically based in a pub where there are no experts and we are all equals.

And dare I say where you can have a laugh!

surferjet · 08/01/2017 12:48

Yes, I do only want to talk to like minded people, what the hell is wrong with that?
I'm sick to death of having to explain myself to complete strangers.
Aren't you bored of it?
What you're getting out of constantly arguing is a complete mystery.
We're leaving the EU - if that hasn't sunk in yet then I don't really know what to say to you?

OP posts:
DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 12:54

You only want to talk to like minded people? Echo chamber, isn't that the thing you and your compatriots complain about?

We can still debate the issue, your side debated it for 4 decades.

We're leaving the EU yes, but on poor reasons, and led by people whose campaign used leaving the EU as a solution to many of the people in the UK's problems when they will do the exact opposite.

So no, not going to leave you to your echo chamber, sorry.

MangoMoon · 08/01/2017 13:01

Hilario that someone would think mn isn't an echo chamber.

The howls when the tories won 'entirely unexpectedly' in the last GE, the gnashing when the Leave vote came in because 'I literally don't know anyone who would vote for Brexit', the shock when Hilary Clinton's shitty presidential campaign didn't bear fruit.

MN is one of the biggest self-selecting, groupthink, echo chambers there is at times.

surferjet · 08/01/2017 13:03

S'ok Darth, you don't have to leave - we live in a free, liberal, tolerant country after all and all are welcome here.

Just don't expect this particular thread to be a Great Debate - there's plenty of other threads serving just that purpose.

On this one, I engage or not depending on the tone & subject - I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

DarthPlagueis · 08/01/2017 13:07

Ha, see if you admire IDS it just makes me question you even more.

Mango, MN isn't an echo chamber there are lots of differing opinions on here, I have had really good discussions with people on this thread.

But do continue to fudge the argument.

Bearbehind · 08/01/2017 13:10

surfer the problem isn't that Remainers don't accept we will ultimately 'leave' the EU, it's that Leavers fail to understand it's not as simple as just walking away.

This far on from the referendum many Leavers still seem to think we can pull up the drawbridge and it'll be done and dusted. The naivety is astounding.

Your comment about only wanting to talk to like minded people is very telling; you and your allies seem to think if you only listen to what you want to hear all the rest will go away- sadly for you, that isn't going to happen.
