Brexit

Not my circus, not my monkeys is not good enough- a thread for those who actually want answers

I was going to give this up as a bad job but given the post on the last Leave thread that's nearly full saying that 'any woman with half a brain voted to leave' I felt the discussion needs to go on.

The problem with the astroturfers was that when they were challenged by remain posters who were well informed the resorted to using the mn machinery to get them banned.

There were all sorts of dog whistle racism in posts about turkey ( I fear for my daughters safety if turkey are allowed to join etc) that were allowed to stand but when these were called out posters a host of others were banned for calling these posters on their points.

There was lots of personal abuse handed out by these posters too!

Mn if not aware, were certainly complicit.

red there are too many obstacles to pick just one- your GFA thread isn't getting many solutions is it?

I'm not picking on anyone- if only 2 Leavers participate in these threads then naturally the focus will be on them.

All we can do is try and engage with posters to try and work out what kind of Brexit is going to be the most acceptable to the most people.

2 months on I and still have no clue what that is.

Not it might not be. I do think that it might highlight the background and the obstacles though.

Even if there are no solutions. Just making sure that people understand that we can't 'just invoke a50' is sufficient progress for me.

I know there are a LOT of issues out there, having a proper discussion of various ones rather than it merely being remain v leave is far more constructive as a rule though.

sorry red, I didn't realise you needed to approve the format of all threads in this section of MN Hmm

We are a long way from this still being just about Remain versus Leave but the fact is Remain don't have the answers because it wasn't their choice.

The answers can only come from Leave voters.

I've said I don't actually expect to get many answers on this thread but it would be good if they were forthcoming.

I'm not Bear. Its up to you how you post.

I'm just pointing out that its not going to engage posters you want to talk to either though.

I won't be biting Bear.

That's a bit rich given the style in which you started the GFA thread!

I've repeatedly said I'm not expecting answers - If any Leave voters want to come along and tell us what they voted for and how happy they are with the way things progress once parliament is back then here's a place to do that but as smallfox pointed out, they've all disappeared anyway.

If any one else wants to come talk about where they see us ending up then that's all good too.

You call it biting corcory, I call it answering a question- there's a difference.

If you don't want to contribute that's your choice but you have to accept your previous posts have done nothing to dispel the perception that you and many of your peers didn't and still don't know what you want from Brexit.

RedToothBrush · 25/08/2016 16:21

My honest answer on that, is that I was very upset yesterday about it.

Yes its a bit rich.

It backfired. Hence why I'm saying don't make the same mistake.

Fair enough red Wink

Emotions are high and it's always difficult to convey exactly what you mean in text.

I'd like this to be a general, not specific, thread where people can express their opinion and we can all discuss.

The severe lack of contributions means it'll die a death anyway but I thought it was worth one last shot.

Mn did turn it's twitter pic to a British flag after the result.

Did it? Shock Fuck.

I just thought it rather amusing that the OP of the last thread, who started off by telling us all about her campaign to get A50 invoked now, was by the end saying she trusted the politicians and didn't feel any further need to get involved. Quite a radical change of heart!

Mistigri, what is astroturfing?

I posted quite a lot on here in the run up to the referendum under another username. I found that remainers were repeatedly having their posts deleted for no real reason, whilst leavers were being genuinely quite abusive and that was apparently fine. And then one day I mysteriously found that my login wouldn't work anymore...

The ones who must not be named on mn orders

Why can't they be named? There were really obvious plants before the vote - you could tell simply from the thread titles - random WORDS in capital letters about CONSCRIPTION for every UK citizen for the EU ARMY. I never really read them as assumed most people are savvy enough to see when they're being played by a plant.

Just looked back at mn's twitter page (don't follow it - looks very weird, like Woman magazine or something) and there was a British flag on 24th June but as a "We're leaving" comment, not pro - factual, as it were.

One last thing - the last thread, again, mentioned London - as though it's more sophisticated. Lots of cities voted Remain. I feel lucky to live in an area where every ward in my constituency voted Remain as did the area as a whole. God help Remain voters who live in places like Redcar. Imagine feeling that out of step with your neighbours.

SwedishEdith, I engaged with those people on those threads and am pretty sure I got kicked off MN as a result. I started questioning why some of my (pretty innocuous) posts were being deleted when genuinely abusive posts by those people weren't, and then one day my login just wouldn't work any more.

Its true, the person who brought me here had her account blocked, but was routinely abused on threads by they who must not be named.

Love that Cocory came here to say she wouldn't be biting.

Would that be cause you're argument is incoherent, lack reasoning and is generally based on sloganeering?

Hmmm

Something to do with lurking, she still reads the boards although she is unable to post.

She was here a lot in the run up though, I only arrived here when she went on and on about it.

And its helped replace the fags...

Ah yes, I remember lurked. I used to post as butteredmuffin. So it looks like we were both banned then.

I was supposed to be revising for my exams anyway (in EU law...hehe) so I just considered it a blessing in disguise.

I'm not sure she was so innocent in getting banned, I've known her since PHD days and she got wound up arguing in the SU even then lol

smallfox, I think we were all getting worked up, but it's definitely fair to say that only remainers were being banned/censored.

I remember mistigri from when I was posting before. I'm interested in her theory that several posters were "paid stooges" associated with a prominent leave campaigner. If that is true, I'm almost certain I know which one it was.
