Clearly Boris didn't get the memo, on when to quit the power games, even after Gove schooled him in the dark arts of the Tory Leadership....

So the Tory Smackdown rolls on whilst Corbyn STILL clings on. UKIP has now entered the race to make a challenge for who can make the biggest leadership contest shambles.

In The Blue Corner
May strikes fear into the hearts of EU citizens as she counts her bargaining chips.
Gove strikes fear into the hearts of humans, with his Martian twitch.
Loathsom strikes fear in the hearts of Britains by talking about babies brains.
Crabb strikes fear into the hearts of Torys by suggesting a plan that Corbyn might like. (and that beard doesn't help).
And Fox.
Well he just turned up.

Johnson is still waiting in the wings to stab Gove. He'd quite fancy a seat at the cabinet table too.
Osborne has gone quite again and we wait with baited breathe to see if he is the 'Charlie off Casualty' of the Tory Party (y'know whatever happens he somehow survives like a cockroach).

In The Red Corner
Corbyn apologies. So we know he's getting a bit desperate.
Will the Unions figure out something else to do other than sit with their head in hands.
Angela Eagle is still doing jellyfish impressions and hasn't found that backbone.
We STILL don't know who the fuck Owen Smith is?
Will Bliar's chicken's finally come home to roost?
The Cult of Momentum, rumbles on. We aren't quite sure who they actually vote for, but they seem to like their Dear Leader.
When will this country next have an opposition party?

Its kinda getting boring guys, we need some action now. End the Chicken Coup! The Tories are definitely out doing in the high drama stakes.

In the Purple Corner
Farage has gone! Hurrah. We hope only that he stays under that rock.
(Don't count on it. They'll wheel him out when they need publicity)
Will Leadsom be elected leader? Oh sorry, wrong party. I was getting confused for a second there.
Will they throw the cuckoo Carswell out? [:)]
Will they be able to find a less offensive leader than Farage who can unite them in their common goal of errrr..... yeah. That.
How long before one of their candidates has to apologise for something?

And I suppose I should ask, when will a50 be triggered....? And by whom?

All these questions and more.
Sense of humour compulsory. No experience necessary though

Showme I would like to think that, and it is certainly the case with the young people I know (friends' offspring, friends of my own young adult kids). But I may move in circles that are too middle / skilled working class.

I'm not sure that the same can be said of some young people in the left-behind communities where UKIP, Britain First and similar movements are thriving.

George Galloway wants back into the Labour party:
— George Galloway (@georgegalloway)
July 7, 2016
After #ChilcotReport my unjust expulsion from the Labour Party cannot be sustained. It should now be rescinded. @jeremycorbyn

Ugh.

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 14:06

Chalala Smile

900+ posts again already. I hope you're preparing your executive summary for the next thread, Red. We are going to be more prolific than Chilcot by the time we're done.

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 14:07

lol, maybe Gorgeous George wants a crack at the leadership. Wink

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 14:12

And just when you think we're scraping the bottom of the barrel, you realise it can always get worse, MrsLupo

In other news, the chemical incident is over.

squoosh · 07/07/2016 14:15

I think George Galloway would be a unifying force for the Labour Party and under his leadership surely they'd give the Tories a run for their money come the next GE.

Oh no, wait I don't. Even the sight of the man makes all my organs shudder and heave. Is he still dressing up as Bugsy Malone?

NotDavidTennant · 07/07/2016 14:16

Leadsom is increasingly striking me as classic corporate middle management: great at making presentations full of vague aspirations and bland jargon that make her superficially sound the part, but not used to having to form her own plan of action or producing concrete results in her own right.

MrsLupo · 07/07/2016 14:17

Grin @ Squoosh. You had me for a moment there.

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 14:19

Totally, squoosh. And there's be none of this unicorn bullshit, it'd be Pegasus all the way.

I agree. Someone said the other day that you need to imagine the new PM in office the day after the beauty contest is over, picking up the phone to Mr Putin.

Her only hope in that situation is that she reminds him of his mother. Wink

TheBathroomSink · 07/07/2016 14:21

NotDavidTennant - I'm not sure she's even that good at the presentations, given the mocking tone of the journalists who were there this morning, and what the MPs at the previous hustings had to say.

MissHooliesCardigan · 07/07/2016 14:34

Squoosh Grin Does his stupid Respect party still exist?
It just seems so utterly wrong that a small number of supporters of one party get to choose the PM when there's potentially 4 years until the next GE and that PM gets to make decisions about our future which have such immense implications. And people say the EU is undemocratic? Does anyone know roughly how many members the Tories have?
I still can't believe all this. 2 weeks ago, the world seemed fairly normal. There was a link to a Buzzfeed piece on a previous thread trying to explain the whole referendum thing to Americans. It said that there was a time around the whole Gove/Johnson thing when it seemed as if the news was just randomly generated words. I just can't get my head around it all.

RedToothBrush · 07/07/2016 14:35

I thought it interesting she didn't take questions from the press after her big press conference this morning.

I hope you're preparing your executive summary for the next thread, Red.
Already on the case.

About 150,000. I think the Labour party got that many new members today alone. Grin

I agree, matters of far too great importance to be negotiated by someone with no popular mandate. Appalling that a GE isn't mandatory when the PM resigns, imo.

citroenpresse · 07/07/2016 14:43

April 2013, Andrea Leadsom to the Hansard Society:
“I'm going to nail my colours to the mast here: I don't think the UK should leave the EU. 'I think it would be a disaster for our economy and it would lead to a decade of economic and political uncertainty."

DoinItFine · 07/07/2016 14:49

So she used to have a grip on reality.

Then she went on a "journey" and lost it.

officerhinrika · 07/07/2016 14:54

I think the party could refuse George Galloways application on various grounds, not excluding that he is deluded. In any case what has he said would happen to Respect? I thought they still have Councillors in some places.

Re George Galloway, it was a fine result when he got trashed by the Women's Equality Party in the London Mayoral elections…

Channel 4 News on 'The Gove Protocol'

Downing Street secretly introduced what some labelled “the Gove Protocol”, to stop him getting his hands on government policy.

“We had to establish a way of keeping him at bay. The guy is a demagogic populist,” the official opined. He added: “The Gove Protocol was an arrangement whereby we allowed Michael to believe that he was generally involved in policy making but in reality he was excluded from any substantive discussion of anything serious. It was fundamentally a matter of trust. It was not felt appropriate for him to have sight of anything serious because he was so fantastically leaky.”

The other day there was an article about how after a glass or two of wine he told Dacre/Murdoch anything and everything.

Please God NO!

Things are bad enough at the moment...

GingerIvy · 07/07/2016 15:48

I'm sorry, have I missed something? Lords debating about a second referendum NOW? Where the blazes have they been for the last 2 weeks - another planet? Hmm
