Hi everyone. Just a bit of advice wanted really. We moved into our new home late last year. It was going to be our forever home, however we have discover over the weekend that there is a convicted peadopile living opposite us. We are totally devasted by this news as we have 2 very young children - our minds have gone into overdrive about what we should do.
Can we call the police to ask whether he is being closely monitored / assessed as part of him being on the sex offenders register (since 2017)? Can they tell us anything?
I feel as though our children would be safe, (we don’t let them out of our sight if they are playing on the front garden for example) however we feel uncomfortable even looking at his house now and having to think about him and what he is. The thought of him even glancing at my children makes me feel physically sick.
We also live around 200m from a nursery - the fact that he is allowed to live in such close proximity to a child’s setting seems unbelievable. Will the nursery be aware of him, or should we tell them? There are so many families around us with small children (some neighbouring his garden) - do we have a duty to tell them about him?
We have so many questions, and not sure if most of our questions can be answered but needed to get it off of my chest.
I honestly think we are in shock about the discovery and our emotions are still raw, but most of all I feel sad that the life that we imagined in this house will have this black cloud hanging over it as long as he lives there.
Has anyone had any similar experiences to this? And if so how did you deal with it?Thanks

naughty *@BoffinMum*, don't wake up Zombies

More importantly, how did this happen?? 12 Jun post appears after 25 June post??

Look at the years though.

25th Jun post is from last year and the last post of the zombie thread. the 12th Jun post is from nearly a year later when the thread was resurrected.

Because, with such an inaccessible style in terms of font size, you haven't noticed that they're 50 weeks apart - 2020 and 2021 .

Newsflash: most children are sexually abused by family members or other adults known to them. The stats indicate one in four children experience sexual abuse. A lot of men sexually abuse children. It's rife.

Sorry 1 in 9 girls, 1 in 53 boys

mynameisbrian · 14/08/2021 12:16

joystir59 exactly...kids are more at risk from within their own family than a known paedophile living across the street. You know about that one but their will be un convicted ones living near you too.

@Lambchop86

Thanks for the response imsooverthisdrama. Unfortunately we know it to be 100% true. It made our local area papers/radio when he was sentenced (we’ve found this when we have googled his name)
THe OP said the name etc is in the public domain.

I would put the house on the market and move in your exact situation. However, abusers those caught, not caught, charged and not convicted, charged and convicted -they live ALL around us.

This thread was started in May 2020. The OP is probably long gone by now.

Dough! I got caught zombie thread..............
Plumtree391 · 14/08/2021 12:57

I'm sorry you've had this shock but the police will be keeping an eye on him. As others have said, paedophiles are everywhere, often the last people you'd expect. and not caught.

If you have a back garden there is no need for your children to play in the front garden, surely.

vixeyann · 14/08/2021 13:01

As horrible as this is, you now know and can take precautions. I am sure we are all living amongst people who could have possibly committed such crimes and we wouldn't have a clue. You now have the power to take precautions. Contact your local police MAPPA team for advice.

ZOMBIE THREAD!!!!!
HOW MANY TIMES? READ PEOPLE, IT'S NOT HARD.

Plumtree391 · 14/08/2021 17:01

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't look at the date on the first post, just saw the recent ones.

I assume that by now the op has worked out what to do, if anything.

mynameisbrian · 14/08/2021 17:02

i know it is a zombie thread but was surprised at some of the naive responses about sex offenders. The chap in question is likely to have offended against a family member not a random neighbours kid.

As I said if your worried about paedophiles look closer to home.

AddressLabel · 14/08/2021 22:59

Yep, I know it’s a zombie thread, but look closer to home. It’ll be a family member (as was in my extended family), and you will be shocked thinking how could this person I’ve known all my life be capable of such a thing? And then there will be family fallout from those who want to cut ties, those that want to remain supportive. Added to the stigma and retaliation of local community towards your family even though you were also victims.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 14/08/2021 23:07

Why do some posters get so worked up about old threads being revived? What does it matter if people want to talk about the subject?

Plumtree391 · 14/08/2021 23:12

I suppose it is because the original poster hasn't come back and it seems the thread came to a natural end. There wasn't much more anyone could say anyway.
