Disturbing finds in house clearance

Clearing a hoarder’s house is not fun at all but the most disturbing find was locked boxes of all manner of books and sex toys. You really would never have thought it. Never felt unsafe with the owner (until their diagnosis of dementia, but meds keep them calm now).

I can’t unsee it (and I’m trying to be open minded about consenting adults). I think it might help if anyone has solidarity from their own upsetting finds, to make me feel less alone. Please tell me this isn’t the only time this has happened.

(Regular poster but name changed for this as combined my posts would be outing).

OP posts:

My nan kept newspaper clippings from all the Royal Weddings from Princess Margaret till Princess Beatrice. We laughed when we saw she'd doodles devil horns on Charles and Camillas

@GailPlattsDeadHusband that's hysterical, I'd have loved to have met your nan😂😂

FuckMeUpFlorida · 05/12/2024 03:38

This thread is fascinating and I've read every post!

LemongrassLollipop · 05/12/2024 03:46

Laughing at the idea of a post watershed Antiques Roadshow and experts giving serious, considered opinions on dildos while trying to keep a straight face 🤣🤣

steponacrackbreakyourmothersback · 05/12/2024 04:03

When my mum was dying she told me she a carrier bag at the back of her wardrobe with something in that I had to throw away and make sure no one saw. I said I would.
After she died I went to look and there was nothing there! I assume she must have thrown whatever it was out herself. (I'm guessing it was a vibrator)

When my dad died at 91, we uncovered a load of hidden magazine pics of women in rubber suits and capes, but he'd stuck photos of my mums head on them.🙈 Omg I was mortified as can't unsee that now. So I definitely get where you are coming from OP!!

Although the fact he put your mums face on makes me think it's more of a love story 😂

Happyinarcon · 05/12/2024 04:40

Is this another bot thread?

EmmerdaleFan78 · 05/12/2024 05:03

Did you hear about the elderly lady who was found deceased still riding her sex toy? Now that must have been disturbing. Not going to link the story but it’s pretty easy to find (and there’s a few similar ones)

TheSandgroper · 05/12/2024 05:11

There is a bloke here in Australia who gets called in by people of their death bed to go and clear out (before the death) the house of stuff (secrets) so the families don’t find it afterwards.

It might be dildoes or Playboys but might also be letters, certificates or photos from a previous life and such.

Creepy but kind of sweet.

Slightly horrifying but also touching 😆

Babymamamama · 05/12/2024 06:10

Kind of similar but not. Had to clear a parent’s house. Found all their love letters from their second spouse. Ewwwww only read a few lines but that was enough they went straight through the shredder. But the most enlightening thing was that I got to read all their school reports. Couldn’t believe they had been hoarded all these years. Omg so eye opening as in their lifetime said parent had always made out they were bright at school intellectual the model student etc etc. But seemed most of their teachers according to report after report despaired of their constant chatterbox/disruptive behaviours and inability to focus on or complete any work to any decent standard in any subject. I always thought this parent had narcissistic PD but reading the school reports made me think how they also may have had undiagnosed ADHD.

It seems to me that there's a lot of people on MN who think any form of kink, or any form of sex that isn't 100% vanilla, is a form of irredeemable moral deviance.

What goes on between consenting adults, if it doesn't affect or harm anyone else, shouldn't ever be an issue. Why is this so shocking or disturbing?

MothralovesGojira · 05/12/2024 06:18

I completely sympathise. When the inlaws had a really severe bed bug infestation we had to clear their bedroom and dismantle their bed for destruction. In the underbed draws were a vast selection of sex toys for both of them which pretty much grossed us out but it was the posing pouches that finished us off. Mil had crocheted quite a few woollen posing pouches for Fil which included several Santa ones but also bizarrely a bright yellow duck one!
I could never look at either of them the same ever again Blush

I found a piece of paper on which my mother said that I was too much for her as a baby. That was small, but devastating.

Maybe owning her feelings and writing it down actually helped her cope? It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed and also feel intense love. 💐

It was the number and type of toys. Clearing them was a challenge.

As someone who volunteers in a charity shop can I say we do not want them!
Yes some people do donate these items.

My mum always kept a diary and recorded her and dad’s lives every day. Randomly looking through them after she died I read some of them, just opening random diaries at random days. There were many entries recording their trips to Sainsbury’s, that they had fish and chips for lunch etc, but then came across the one where she had discovered my dad (who pre-deceased her by two years) had been having a long term affair for years. They were both in their 70’s at the time the entry was written.

I had no idea: but I was with my dad in hospital when he passed away and can still remember him in his final, delirious moments calling out a woman’s name which wasn’t my mum’s name. Heartbreaking …….

What’s wrong with having sex toys? I have a locked metal case with some sex toys inside. Hope if I die the whole box just gets chucked! It’s perfectly normal to own some sex toys, hoarder or not

Yeah - and it's been completely normal for decades, so a lot of people who have owned them at some point are now going to be very old. I really don't get the issue here, unless there's concrete evidence they've been used for anything coercive or illegal.

Am I the only one who really want to know exactly what type of sex toys they were?

Just me…

Oh well. Blush

I'm guessing full bdsm

Exactly. It’s perfectly normal. Maybe this lady hadn’t used them in decades, maybe she uses them every day, it’s odd someone would have an issue about this, and post online about it they are that disturbed. The sex toy industry is booming!!

Surely that’s more to do with them being a hoarder? I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Admittedly it's a bit spooky to find something like that, but latex is an extremely common fetish and it's hardly extreme.
