Song Search for Funeral, Can You Help Me Find It?

My Mum died recently.
Years ago she picked out a song for her exit from the service but she did not write it down. I did ask her to. She did play it for me.
Some of the words were about lying down sleeping next to your partner forever or together again . It might have been from the 60s. It was a male singer.

Can anyone help?

I have picked a C&W song out that says roughly the same thing but I know it is not that.

Just bumping for the lunchtime crowd.
The best I can find is Don Williams 'Lay down beside me' but I suspect that isn't quite it.
I am sorry for your loss and hope you locate the song.

Newterm · 07/11/2024 12:45

Can you remember any of the other lyrics?

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 12:46

That is the one I have chosen @domesticslattern
I am sure it is not that one though.
It was a long time ago that she played it for me. The Don Williams song is beautiful and I was crying listening to it.

Not 60's at all so doubt it's correct but Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol has the lyrics 'if I just lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world'?

Sorry for your loss OP 💕

Together again by Buck Owens? It doesn't say anything about sleeping so probably not right.

Iseethesilverlining · 07/11/2024 12:52

Goodnight my love by Jesse Belvin?

ginasevern · 07/11/2024 12:53

OP, can you remember the sort of genre? Was it country music or an Irish ballad type song for example?

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 13:16

It was not an Irish ballad type thing or C&W @ginasevern

I have had a quick listen and it is not those two songs @Iseethesilverlining and @Saker

Could it be Dance with my Father again by Luther Vandross?

Fireworknight · 07/11/2024 13:23

Just a thought, was it a hymn?

Maybe God/Jesus laying beside you ?

WinterCrow · 07/11/2024 13:24

Was it 60s pop genre like the Kinks / Herman's Hermits, or more ballad style?

Male singer - deep voice or not? Orchestra or acoustic?

IKEAJesus · 07/11/2024 13:24

It’s very much not 60s, but my first thought was Aerosmith - I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing

Truly madly deeply by Savage Garden? Not 1960s though…

Baconsarnie · 07/11/2024 13:30

Was it May You Never by John Martyn?

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 13:32

It was an acoustic style , male . Perry Como like style.

Be not Afraid ? It is often played exiting a service or funeral.

Oldieandgoldie · 07/11/2024 13:33

Not a perfect match but,
Help me make it through the night?

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 13:34

No, @Baconsarnie
Thank you all for your efforts so far . She should have written it down!
