Song Search for Funeral, Can You Help Me Find It?

My Mum died recently.
Years ago she picked out a song for her exit from the service but she did not write it down. I did ask her to. She did play it for me.
Some of the words were about lying down sleeping next to your partner forever or together again . It might have been from the 60s. It was a male singer.

Can anyone help?

I have picked a C&W song out that says roughly the same thing but I know it is not that.

Don’t think it was him either. Oh dear!

If she played it for you, is it among her record collection?

watchuswreckthemic · 07/11/2024 14:02

Is it Roy Orbison? Together in dreams?

TheShellBeach · 07/11/2024 14:02

For the Good Times?
It's by Kristofferson but sung by loads of different people.

Al Green was one of the many.

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 14:08

I think it was a tape. Do not have access to her things now. Her place was a nightmare.

Definitely not Roy Orbison, his voice was characteristic. It was an obscure name and song which was why I said write it down….

It is not “For the Good Times”

@AnneKipankitoo I'm so sorry for your loss and that this is making this harder.
Do you think it might help if you focus on either the artist or lyrics? An app called Shazam might help you

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 14:17

Thank you @watchuswreckthemic

I've had a look through songs by Matt Monro and Bobby Davin, can't immediately see anything. What year was she 18? What year did they get married?

MichaelandKirk · 07/11/2024 14:52

We had Dean Martin Everybody loves Somebody Sometime and it was truly lovely. We also had Andy Williams Moonriver which I thought was going to be a bit sickly but ended up being the best song of all (must be Andy Williams though - no one else comes close!)

AnneKipankitoo · 07/11/2024 16:06

Thank you everyone with your help and suggestions.

butterflymum · 07/11/2024 17:03

It might be worth asking over on Gransnet too:

Was it an engelbert humperdink song?

Maybe the last waltz?

How about "If tomorrow never comes"? That's the first song I thought of, covered by several people, probably best known by Garth Brooks

This thread sent me down memory lane. I loved Perry Como - I did think it was his version of for the Good Times but I see you've already ruled that out. One of my favourites of his was And I Love You So. Another singer of the time with a similar voice was Matt Monro. Gorgeous voice.
