And news, news, news, news

honestly ART, what an utterly drivel filled programme it is, people buying crap with the unfunniest narrator. My dad loves it. I dread being at their house at the appropriate time, as I am today.

it's even worse than Bargain Hunt and I can't stick that either.

either antiques or Doom Laden News from the Middle East

Just wait until you get a frame by frame account of every episode of Police Interceptors! I don't live close (thankfully) but have to listen to a full account whenever I phone (and yes I phone him he never bothers to phone me but will gladly tell me how he has nobody to talk to.....)

PortiasBiscuit · 07/10/2024 16:18

I love it, absolutely mindless TV on just when I need something mindless.
Even if I hated it, I cant imagine it would ever be worth such vitriol though, equating it with news from the ME seems a wee bit steep.

Godesstobe · 07/10/2024 16:35

I feel your pain, but I raise you Midsummer Murders (which my very elderly mother watches on repeat).

I do
my husband was a police officer and I am a radio operator
you can imagine how I love dad regaling tales from it...

My Dad comes for tea twice a week and commandeers the remote. We mostly get to watch very old western films, often in black and white and interrupted by lots of moaning about the government.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 07/10/2024 17:02

I watch it with my elderly mum and we love it. We never get tired of laughing at the ugly crap and their faces when it sells for £50 less than they paid.

We've promised one day we're going to go to an antiques shop and see who can buy the most hideous object for £30.

Her neverending love for Judge fucking Judy, however, is another question.

menopausalmare · 07/10/2024 17:10

My mum was obsessed with the farming woman and her million children. So much sodding details. I was quite relieved when the shepherdess woman divorced her husband and mum's running commentary of her antics stopped.

Longleggedblond · 07/10/2024 17:11

Repair shop and any programme re scamming. kill me now.

Neves7 · 07/10/2024 17:12

😂my son and his girlfriend (both mid twenties) love it!

Zippea · 07/10/2024 17:12

Oh my parents have a number of tv shows that I consider the 7th circle of hell. They are Antiques Road Show, Bargain Hunt, Money for Nothing etc. Anything antique or upcycling and they love it

I love Countdown but Dad hates watching it with me because I beat him all the time.

They strangely got into My 600lb Life - they loved Dr Now and really wanted the participants to lose the weight.

I have got them watching the Big Bang Theory which they love - Young Sheldon is next

EmotionalBlackmail · 07/10/2024 17:25

I hate the endless descriptions of this stuff! Mine even complained that I'd rung her when she was watching them. Then moaned that I didn't ring her often enough!

Bearing in mind I've got a FT job and a child with activities on I was phoning at the only times I was available. But clearly job, grandchild and everything else are a lower priority than some stuff on TV that can be watched at any time.

whiskeyarmadillo · 07/10/2024 17:25

My parents managed to get the DC into it last time we were there Hmm

SoupDragon · 07/10/2024 17:27

I miss watching these sorts of programmes with my parents 🙁

The OP isn't equating them, she's saying they are the only things her parents watch.

One or the other is always on; not one is like the other.

BestIsWest · 07/10/2024 17:38

I have just returned from an hour with DM watching Doctors followed by Money for Nothing. I don’t mind it to be honest, it gives us something to chat about (who on earth pays £500 for an old sideboard with bits of wallpaper stuck to it?).

I miss watching Countdown with my Dad.

SleepingisanArt · 07/10/2024 17:45

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew On behalf of everyone I am so so sorry! My DH was a GP and will leave the room if people talk about Holby City, Doctors (where are all the patients and how do they have so much time for each patient?) or anything else which is nothing like being a real medic. You must be the same with all police dramas!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/10/2024 17:49

Aw, I used to like watching Antiques Roadshow at my granddad's house. The only downside was that it meant the weekend was nearly over, whereas Gardners' World meant it was just beginning.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 07/10/2024 18:20

Antiques Roadshow is quite different from Antiques Road Trip.

Antiques Roadshow is quite different from Antiques Road Trip.

Ah I hadn't realised that.

Toomanysquishmallows · 07/10/2024 18:29

@Godesstobe , my mum is a midsummer murders fan as well !

Uricon2 · 07/10/2024 18:36

The whole proviso of Bargain Hunt really annoys me. Dealers buy at auction, not the other way round.Try getting the massive discounts they do without gigglers in silly fleeces who know as much about antiques as I do about the workings of the Large Hadron Collider and, crucially, a film crew on hand, your face would be laughed in.

It is on DHs list of daily shows, unfortunately.

cheezncrackers · 07/10/2024 18:40

Oh my DM used to love Bargain Hunt (which I thought was dire!), but in recent years she's taken to quiz shows, which have to be on very loudly while eating dinner. She likes to face the TV and shout out the answers when she knows them and berate the contestants when they don't.

Edited

I think I'm your mother, apologies 😁

wastingtimeonhere · 07/10/2024 18:44

I see you bargain hunt, Antiques Roadshow and raise you Casualty and The Bill..thank God I go to work! DH forgets to change channel and that there is more than 1 channel

cheezncrackers · 07/10/2024 18:50

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 07/10/2024 18:44

I think I'm your mother, apologies 😁

She gets particularly animated about the ignorance of contestants on the classical music round. However, I seriously impressed her once when the music round was on hip-hop and I got all the answers right. She, of course, was utterly mystified and said 'Well fancy you knowing all those' at the end Grin
