And news, news, news, news

honestly ART, what an utterly drivel filled programme it is, people buying crap with the unfunniest narrator. My dad loves it. I dread being at their house at the appropriate time, as I am today.

it's even worse than Bargain Hunt and I can't stick that either.

either antiques or Doom Laden News from the Middle East

where a woman would pounce on people at the tip and take their junk away to renovate She’d grab a bit of lovely wood furniture, and you’d think “a bit of cleaning and a minor repair to the veneer and that would be beautiful”. And they’d strip it down and paint sunflowers on it.

Although Keir Starmer is getting royally on my tits by proxy at the moment Just keep reciting to yourself “Boris Johnson … Liz Truss…. Kemi Badenoch….”

SabrinaThwaite · 09/10/2024 11:03

My deaf DM loves all the political programmes, so if I’m staying over I get various editions of the news, Question Time, Newsnight etc at full blast, interspersed with her own opinions that makes Ghengis Khan look like a liberal snowflake. I escape upstairs but can still hear every word - thank god for noise cancelling headphones.

At least she hasn’t discovered GB News.

Midsummer Murders will still be on when humankind has blown itself up and only lizards remain to watch it.

I feel this is true. In quite a benign way, perhaps because I’ve actually never seen an episode of MM. The idea of Tipping Point continuing beyond the end of the world is far more depressing.

BestIsWest · 09/10/2024 11:30

I think I prefer watching the tip programme with DM than the continuous repeats of Deadliest Catch, Opal Hunters and Ice Road Truckers favoured by DH.

Best of all I like silence these days.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/10/2024 11:33

I think DH has watched every episode of Wheeler Dealers and Police Interceptors.

Slightly off topic, and of course it is fiction at the end of the day, but I do wonder to myself who the hell would want to live in Midsomer? It seems to have a very disproportionately high number of murders for what looks to be a fairly small town! 🤣

I suppose you could say the same for Denton, Inspector Frost's stomping ground. 🤠

SabrinaThwaite · 09/10/2024 12:41

Brookside Close always seemed a pretty dangerous place to live - getting shot, electrocuted, being stabbed, car crashes, pushed off scaffolding, poisoning, explosions, fires etc.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 09/10/2024 12:42

Yup. Sometimes when I visit my granny she stops me talking so she can hear what tat sold for on BH. 🤦

From my extensive viewing of MM with my mother I am able say that Midsomer is not set in a small town but in a collection of villages. (Murder rate is still high though.)

tobee · 09/10/2024 13:34

My parents absolutely love Tim Wonnacott (does he still do it?). He strikes me as a pompous ass with his stupid clothes.

I think they've forgotten about BH and the rest now fortunately.

My dm still keeps going on about people wearing hoodies and thinks anyone who wears one is going to commit a crime. Idk why she's so obsessed. My dm used to work with young working class people and very sympathetic to the younger generation in general. So why hoodies are so terrible I've no clue.

Repair shop and any programme re scamming. kill me now.

At least they will be less likely to fall for scams after watching all that.

I occasionally make my husband watch these shows so we are up to date with the latest scams as we get old and doddery but they do seem to be very repetitive.

tobee · 09/10/2024 13:36

Also this and the 6 o clock news are on full volume and the heating on full blast. 🥵

MrTwatchester · 09/10/2024 13:39

My mum just keeps GB News on constantly, count yourself lucky.

@tobee

He's an awful bully. His nickname among production crews that had to work with him was Tim WhatACunt.

tobee · 09/10/2024 13:43

Actually, to be fair, my parents only put the news on if I'm there, they turn everything else off.

My df has always been firmly that you only put the tv on if there is a specific programme you want to watch usually marked in The Radio Times in advance and would NEVER dream of randomly putting it on "to see what's on"

Does not surprise me!

SabrinaThwaite · 09/10/2024 13:48

I know it’s the Express, but:

Tim's exit came after it was reported that staff at BBC Bristol issued a complaint after objecting to Tim's behaviour, resulting in an investigation into alleged bullying claims. However the BBC declined to comment on "individual staff matters".

This is all true.

Byllis · 09/10/2024 13:56

As at least one pp has said, dull TV shows do provide something to talk about so I’m happy to take them.

I might not choose to watch Antiques Roadshow or quiz shows on my own, but being able to have a two-way conversation about them is infinitely preferable to sitting mutely and being told off for not being sufficiently engaged by tales of the neighbours and trips to the supermarket.

Latenightreader · 09/10/2024 14:34

My mother likes to describe episodes of Border Control variations in great detail and they are all exactly the same! A planeload of people who brought fruit, people who have declared nothing and have a suitcase of dried fish, someone suspected of swallowing drug condoms...

Byllis · 09/10/2024 17:09

I always think Border Control or whatever it’s called is an Australian government-funded information campaign. I may not remember much, but I can recall the rules around bringing food into Australia and the likely consequences of doing so in fine detail.

Godesstobe · 09/10/2024 20:31

I understand Charles Hanson from Antiques Road Trip is facing charges of assault and coercive control with a court date in February 2025. He denies the charges.

ruethewhirl · 09/10/2024 20:36

It's wall-to-wall ITV3 for DM. Endless flipping Heartbeat, Midsomer Murders, Poirot and ads for walk-in baths and showers... 😬

(She lives with us but thankfully has her own living room and TV. 😂)

Can just imagine estate agent showing people round - sorry about the police tape, yes unfortunately Ms B in the flat above died suddenly a week ago - yes and Miss X next door and Mr J across the road .., but it really is a very safe area.
