Anyone want to join a year 13 UCAS THREAD?

We can join in stressing about ucas forms interviews etc?

I am finding it all a very steep learning curve - we could support one another - celebrate and commiserate?

Good luck everyone! see you all here tomorrow to celebrate/commiserate x

PosyPetrovaPauline · 18/08/2010 22:20

Good luck mumoverseas and good luck one and all!

MABS · 19/08/2010 11:24

how is everyone? thinking of you all

mumoverseas · 19/08/2010 12:09

yay, just back from school (MABS, it was mad down there!)
DS got 3 As and a B which we are pretty pleased with for AS. Hopefully the predicted grades he will get now will be good enough for a conditional offer. He has decided he does want to apply to Cambridge. Watch this space..
Hope everyone else is happy with results

MABS · 19/08/2010 12:26

delighted Mos

PosyPetrovaPauline · 02/09/2010 20:55

well done MOS so pleased! Do check in for advice on the cambridge thing!!

mumoverseas · 02/09/2010 21:40

any updates on OP and others on where their DC are going?
Any helpful hints on making DS's application to Cambridge stand out from the thousands of others?

PosyPetrovaPauline · 02/09/2010 22:06

MOS I am op! I would say do your own thing on the ucas form and try not to listen to what you are told to put. DS put much more personal stuff than recommended and got 5 offers

academic stuff speaks for itself

put lots of bullet points rather than blurb

mumoverseas · 03/09/2010 07:29

ah, you've namechanged. That confused me, had wondered where the otter had gone Grin
will have to scroll back lots of pages now to catch up on what has happened to your DS. 5 offers is fab, so where is he going?

PosyPetrovaPauline · 03/09/2010 21:58

cambridge which is a bit mind blowing!!

mumoverseas · 04/09/2010 07:00

FANTASTIC! that is fabulous you must be so very proud.
DS really wanted to go there to read law and has done so for a few years now. A little bit disappointed when I went down to see him at school last night for a 'meet the tutors/UCAS talk'. He has been back at school since Wednesday night and in 48 hours one of the teachers there appears to have convinced him not to apply to Cambridge but Oxford instead. This teacher had been hinting at Oxford last term (funny old thing, he went to Oxford) but within minutes of getting AS results DS was adamant that Cambridge was where he wanted to go and so a little sad that he has been talked out of it by a teacher who has known him 5 minutes.

Good luck to your DS Posy. Look forward to updates!

Bringing back memories here!

DD has just bought a new ball gown (amazing sale bargain) to take back with her for the start of her 2nd year. Where does the time go??

NotanOtter · 04/09/2010 21:28

aww Milliways - it really is very exciting

MOS - ds school seemed to have a real oxford bias so we too were swayed that way but after the open days ds just 'felt' cambridge was right and so we went with heart rather than head....

mumoverseas · 05/09/2010 10:23

Notanotter, its not very helpful of the school though in my opinion. Over the summer DS reached his decision and was firm in his mind that this was what he wanted. Now (again!) he has doubts.

So worrying to have heard at the school that one of last years leavers had 5 A* and no place at uni Shock Doesn't fill one with confidence

NotanOtter · 05/09/2010 22:54

Oddly MOS everything seems to have panned out quite fairly round us...

everywhere people seem to have got into pretty much the appropriate establishments - those who seemed to not get offers despite lots pf hard work and good grades seem to have ended up with one GOOD offer

those who got flukily good or easy offer ( one unexpectedly got TWO oxford offers) did not get it and ended up going somewhere that seemed more suited

i think GCSE and AS play huge part in interviews along with ability to show you do other stuff...

don't fret although I KNOW its darn hard!

NotanOtter · 15/09/2010 19:52

happy alert!!!! DS maths has been upgraded to A* joy abounds Smile

ok as you were!!

webwiz · 16/09/2010 09:12

Well done to your DS Grin

NotanOtter · 16/09/2010 20:41

senua · 16/09/2010 23:07
