Anyone want to join a year 13 UCAS THREAD?

We can join in stressing about ucas forms interviews etc?

I am finding it all a very steep learning curve - we could support one another - celebrate and commiserate?

That was a long wait ggirl! Congratulations to your DD

brimfull · 24/03/2010 19:28

I know ridiculously long.
She will be so pleased and i am so proud of her.

lazymumofteenagesons · 24/03/2010 21:28

Congratualtions to ggirl's girl. What a wait, but at least it was worth it. Is offer as expected?

JGBMum · 24/03/2010 21:43

Adding my congratulations

brimfull · 24/03/2010 22:03

Yes offer of BBB for economics and french
she is predicted ABB so fingers crossed as she's already firmed it.

McBitchy · 29/03/2010 22:11

well done ggirl

Well it's heads down for the last hurdle here! DS is such a hard worker that I try not to stress despite a remarkably crap maths module result.

DD year 10 with a load of gcses and absolutely NO work ethic ....hard work being a mum!

McBitchy · 29/03/2010 22:12

I mean ggirls girl of course

brimfull · 29/03/2010 22:15

thanks Mcbitchy

You can expect top unis such as Cambridge. Imperial, Warick to standardise on AAAA as offers for most of their courses in the future. Even so, they will have dozens of candidates to choose from.

JGBMum · 11/04/2010 08:59

DS has been looking at cambridge for engineering, even though they say they want A(star), A, A, in practise they are looking for 90%+ on each module so it becomes practically 3 x A(star) anyway

MmeBlueberry · 12/04/2010 15:10

My DS has an Engineering offer from University College London and they have asked for ABB.

I think there are a lot of myths about super high offers.

ajandjjmum · 14/04/2010 12:47

DS confirmed his selections on UCAS last night - I'm now worrying whether he's made the right choices!

Do you think all of the fretting will stop once they're away at uni?

lazymumofteenagesons · 14/04/2010 15:51

I think it will get only get worse as we completely lose control of their lives .

Which one has he firmed and which for insurance Ajandjjmum.

ajandjjmum · 15/04/2010 10:06

Durham firm - but having had bad grades for the January modules, it's really pushing it. He's working hard - so we can't ask any more than that. Sheffield is his insurance, and he should be OK with their grades, as there is room for error. We all loved Sheffield, so he would be quite happy to go there. The hardest was turning down UCL as insurance, but he couldn't risk being left with nothing, and as Sheffield want ABB, it is the safer option.

I hate not being able to sort out everything for him, like when he was 4!!!

DD has just started looking at options - not sure I'm ready to go through all of this again! She's a completely different kettle of fish. Any ideas for a sparky little creature, who everyone loves, but doesn't really like 'education', but wants to go to Uni so she doesn't miss out on the fun!

mumeeee · 15/04/2010 13:13

Hiajandjjmum I've just been havibg a quick nose at this thread, Sorry to discorouge you but no you don't stop threating when they are away at uni but you just have to learn to let them get on with thier lives. DD2 has just gone back to uni and yes I will wory a bit about her but at the same time I know she is doing well. DH and I both worried that she would spend all her money as she is not very good at Budgeting. We payher rent and she uses her Student loan for everything else. Well she has done well with budgeting and manages to have some of her loan left at the end of term, Well she has for the two terms she's been at uni.

Lilymaid · 15/04/2010 13:39

If you have boys, they probably won't be in contact too much when they get to university (except when they need money). We took a very hands off approach with DS1 and let him contact us. This is probably due to our own experiences at university in the days before mobile phones etc. DH once spent a whole term without contacting his parents - even though they lived only 20 miles away. Hopefully, we will be able to let DS2 spread his wings a bit when he goes off in September and we will enjoy our independence too.

NotanOtter · 15/04/2010 20:00

andjsmum

i have one of those we are mooting speech and language therapy

Sweeedes · 15/04/2010 20:07

Newcastle Firm
Barts Insurance
UCL declined

All offers are for 3 A grades (he's doing 4 and should be OK) and he chose Barts as insurance as they MIGHT be more sympathetic to a grades narrow miss than UCL.

We even did all the accommodation online last night.

I need a lesson in student finance. How does it work? I didn't listen at ANY of the parents evenings.

NotanOtter · 15/04/2010 20:09

accommodation omg swedes already??

Sweeedes · 15/04/2010 20:10

If anyone's son or daughter is thinking of medicine in the next year or two, I've compiled a very nerdy spreadsheet with truckloads of hard fought for information.

Sweeedes · 15/04/2010 20:16

NAO - Well I say 'did'. We requested Castle Court first choice then Castle Leazes. 3 mins walk to lectures.

I don't know why I'm worrying about him getting up late for lectures as he wakes me EVERY morning with a cup of tea. I keep dreaming about going to buy him two new alarm clocks from Argos then wake up thinking WHAAAT? I seem to be fighting my inner overbearing mother.

NotanOtter · 15/04/2010 21:12

wow! DS sweating a bit now...

ajandjjmum · 16/04/2010 17:18

On his grades Otter - or because he hasn't got his accommodation sorted?

NotanOtter · 16/04/2010 19:51

grades!! just the A* really
as for accommodation we have not even thought of it.....

Milliways · 16/04/2010 22:29

Otter - they will send you the info (and price guide) in good time.

DD has a fab ensuite room with corner views this year, but is currently bottom of the room draw for next year. Until this week she had no accomodation but the college have just bought some new houses and offered her to share one of these, or a flat, with her friends.
