11 plus tutoring costs

I've been quoted £120 for a tutor with a good track record for the 11 plus in south east London. This doesn't seem like the going rate to me, am I wrong? TIA

I know this is old, but Google bring people here.

120£/hr for the top tutors for the most competitive schools is normal. (City, Westminster etc)

But be careful agencies will charge this and then send you a complete beginner who gets about 30£/hr and thinks he/she is making steal.

A decent tutor will also do an assessment at the start and advise you on what schools to look at etc. As those schools are more expensive than the tutoring this is money well spend.

And please don’t be fooled by those who claim to have done it without tutoring, the vast majority of kids at the top schools have had 2 years of tutoring at this price point.

Even the tutors think this system is rotten, but that is the current state of affairs.

And no I am not a tutor and won’t recommend any, but I know the space well.

That is way too much. Costs should be around £35 - £45 per hour.

NW London £80-100 per hour when dealing direct with the tutor isn't unusual, so £120 with an agency fee in there is high but not crazy

I am an 11+ tutor in Southern England, not South East.

I charge £35 per hour this year (last 3 years was 330 per hour, I've just put prices up) I always ahve a waiting list, and I only take them in year 5, as what I do is specific to exam prep.

I know that in South East 11+ tutoring is more, some pay up to £50 per hour.
I have never heard of £120 per hour, that's nuts.

For non 11+ (which your son is, as he is year 4) it should be less. I would charge £25 - £30 for non 11+.
