Hello, I've just joined mumsnet because I really want to warn people about this company. My daughter's school gave out leaflets for exemplar education. They then sent a text and another leaflet telling us to return forms. Exemplar Education is a trading name of EBS Systems Ltd. Being an accountant I checked the public record for this company. This company's directors have not filed accounts with the Registrar of Companies. They are overdue as of 13/07/17. It is a legal requirement for directors to file accounts on time. I asked the headteacher why the school is promoting a company that is withholding its financial position from the public record. Anything could be going on with this company. I believe they ask customers to sign credit agreements. This company could be in trouble but how do we know without accounts? The head teacher agreed to stop the promotion on ethical grounds but i since found out that they are carrying on. I'm a joke to them. They won't reply to my questions in writing. I've written to the chair of governors. Does anyone know of anything else I can do? I thought teachers and schools were meant to be socially responsible and this is so sad.
Thanks for any replies , Emma

I’ve never used them myself. But I’ve heard terrible things about them from friends who have trialled them. Seriously do look at other options for tutoring.
You are better off using a private tutor or looking for a decent tuition centre. Another option is to find out if you can get a teacher to teach your children. The cheapest option is to buy some worksheets and textbooks and spend some time tutoring your kids yourself.

Exemplar Education cancellations, I have been advised by a friend of mine that was part of this website to just stop paying. They cannot do anything about chasing you for the money and they haven’t. There are websites that offer similar services for £7pm as opposed to £112pm for 4y contract with exemplar

Uzzz14 · 06/02/2019 13:19

I signed up for the finance package stupidly in June 2018. I have been trying to terminate the agreement since 5 months as my circumstances have changed. The service is useless and the company is a fraud. My son has huge commitments outside of school thus making it very difficult to fit in anymore and bounding is into a 3 year contract with no way out of it is very disturbing and shady. We are not seeing the benefits and I'm locked into this contract with them. It is hugely overpriced and I'm now regretting my decision. There was a 14 day cooling off period but the reality is that 14 days is not long enough to see the problems or benefits of the package. Parents beware and do not join it.

I do think their filing most definitely should be sorted. On the note of the solution I think it’s a great idea, I didn’t want a stranger in my house but wanted the support. So far so good yes it’s expensive but it’s a permanent license for a whole family if needed! It can be paid one of or in instalments at 0% interest, they told me it’s financed in house so this explains more stringent credit check. I managed to get one topic for £3500 I think but can pay over 5 years. For the sake of my child passing GCSE maths it’s worth it. The resources and support are fantastic and all parties have been very helpful. Highly recommend so far. Smile

I work in a school and had the rep from Exemplar Education into school yesterday. They are very clever on the phone when they ring to book an appointment as they don't give much away just that they would like to offer the school a financial donation. They play on the fact that the school will benefit just by handing out the leaflet. I was offered £50 just for giving out the leaflet and a further £100 if just 10% of the parents respond even if they were all "not interested". With School budgets as they are currently it would be very easy to say yes to the rep and I can see why many schools do. We however said no and after reading this I'm so glad we did.

We have been conned by this Company and we are desperately looking for a way out. Can we contact you?

Saraallouise · 19/06/2019 10:00

Has anyone managed to cancel their agreement with this company, last year I signed my daughter up for it and they said I could cancel at anytime unfortunately this isn’t true they kept saying I signed a contract and states there is a 14 day cooling off period so I have to keep paying due to no fault of my own I’m unable to afford to pay it and they won’t stop contacting me about it they have been told on more than 3 occasions that I can’t afford it no more

I received a letter today from the insolvency service, company investigations section 447 wanting me to fill in a questionnaire about the conduct of exemplar . Their website is www.bis.gov.uk/insolvency ...anyone familiar with them ?

mcmen71 · 29/08/2019 16:34

I was ready to start my kids today at 4pm and at 4pm on the dot got a call from the office to say tutor has broke down and can't make it. I think I had a lucky escape.

Aleen · 18/09/2019 23:20

Hi, did you manage to cancel with Exampler or if not how did you deal with them?
I am in the same situation sadlySad

banskuwansku · 21/09/2019 17:20

We got this leaflet this week. It asked to return it even if you are not interested (with your details of course...). Couple of days later they send a reminder to return the slip.

I had read about them before and I didn't return anything. I am also bit annoyed school sending these.

HandsOffMyRights · 22/09/2019 08:18

I would urge you all to contact BBC Watchdog about this company.

I was in despair regarding another big company and getting nowhere until Watchdog picked it up. I simply emailed the main address and they got back to me, saying they'd had countless complaints about the company.

Motorcyclemptiness · 05/11/2019 19:37

They appear to have rebranded themselves as 'Affordable Academic Success,' FYI

Hi

Just wondered if and how you managed it as I am currently in the same situation and signed up to this but now wish to get out of it.

Thank you

2sdWtm24JsxxrZX · 03/12/2019 16:23

How have you got on? I am in the same boat wondering where to turn as both Exemplar and 3J Finance are refusing to cancel the plan

Docteur91 · 09/12/2019 13:26

Hi twinsmum66,
I cancelled the direct debit with 3j but they want me to continue to pay, in their correspondence they said that I have only 14days to terminate the contract.
Could you please help me how to proceed.
Thank you

Sunshinex · 03/01/2020 10:54

I made an enquiry and an appointment for a rep to visit to discuss the possibility of using Exemplar as part of our sons home education programme. Unfortunately I had to cancel the appointment due to ill health (I explained to them I was going into hospital) and since then they have not stopped hounding me! I’m talking about up to 10 calls every single day without fail! they’re even going as far as withholding their number because I had no choice but to stop answering their calls. I suffer from anxiety and I’m in bits over their harassment. I regret the day I ever contacted Exemplar. They shouldn’t be allowed to get away with pressurising people in this way. It is very bad and extremely unprofessional. It’s sad, too, because I would of probably signed up with them if they hadn’t insisted on this heavy handed pressurised approach. If they carry on (they’ve been calling multiple times every day for months now) I will have no choice but to report them officially. I do not recommend them at all.

IamTheAntiChrist · 04/01/2020 09:09

Just stop paying? if they quibble you can challenge them under the Trades description Act, surely?

Alikels · 22/01/2020 03:14

I also stupidly got involved with Exemplar, biggest joke ever. I actually seen their ad on Facebook & decided to try & get more info of them as my daughter is now in Year 11.A man came out & told me all about them & how great they were & much my daughter would benefit from their program. The fact they were 24/7 & £40 monthly,I just thought this was great. I had asked if would be beneficial to her & was told yes. They used all curriculum & all exam boards & again yes.My daughter hasn’t used it since 21/22 August,so n October,I phoned Exemplar to be told I had no chance of cancelling the account.Around xmas/new year,my daughter informed me she couldn’t get into her GCSEaccount,it didn’t cover her examination board or the N.I curriculum. So called again & waited about a week for a response from customer services,I missed her call, which I then returned & she was with another customer but was promised she would call back ASAP.3 days later she did,to which I told her they had breached their contract & that I had stopped my DD,she played dumb with everything I had said & actually they would owe me all my money back by 1 of her answers,of course I’m still waiting on her getting back to me again which is now 8 days ago & than the finance company called to say about the payment hadn’t gone through so I explained to him & he’s now finding out what happened. It will be interesting to see what they say next especially when I told her they’ll owe me money, fingers crossed

Hey Karanqoiy, I’ve read this bt I can’t see anything regarding Exemplar education.
They have been in contact with me for the money, which I stopped my DD’s,the fella on the phone still tried to say that Exemplar & the finance company aren’t connected, yet he’s following up my complaint. He emailed me saying that it would have a decision in 8 weeks from I made the complaint bt it’s already past that now,so fingers crossed
