The whole thing is crazy. Already, our local secondaries are struggling. I tutor children from most of them and see things like English texts shrunk in the photocopier (to save paper) until the font is so small that I am struggling to read it comfortably, and the dyslexic student I am helping has no chance at all.
Maths teachers are in such poor supply that they are just grateful to have a person in front of the class (admitted to the parents) so overlook lack of control, shouting at students and calling them stupid. Even in the local grammars, some sets have teachers the children cannot understand ('I have no idea what he's saying, so I pretend to listen then bring the worksheets to you so you can help me...'). One student has gone up a group since Sept and is now top of that group - great for her as she now has a chance of getting the grade she needs, but what about all those other students who she is sailing past? Don't they deserve a chance too?
