Someone help me please. My fingers are so sore from sewing these wretched labels on. Wish I bought the iron on ones, but so many people advised against it.

Now I've got to the socks and dont really know where to put them. I guess the soles, so I did one (sewinig the ends on) but now I think it should be sewn all the way round. That is going to take AGES.

Someone help, please.....

And yet again I smirk at being at a non uniform school. Although admittedly three of DD1's classmates have an identical H&M top to hers (on consideration, though, I reckon hers has Distinguishing Stains ).

We found a local lady who sews them in. I've about 30 items waiting for the new labels to arrive and fear now they'll come too late to use her and I'll have to do it. Most people sew them at the top of the sock often under the bit that turns down.

oh my what a lot of tips! Thankfully I finished mine last night. (My middle finger on my right hand is still sore though!) And next time I shall defintely be using iron on labels for socks!

I previously didn't bother doing socks, but I saw some iron on transfers on the easy2name website (though have had mixed experience of their iron on tapes....
Time will tell, but these transfers look a bit like the labels on the bottom of Babygap socks - ie they are textured. They come in various colours to suit different socks, so I'm hoping they'll do the job. Even if some of the letters come off, there should be enough clues left for the owners to track down their socks, and if not, well, they're only socks after all.

Oh please tell me you don't label socks! Life's too short!

Glad I'm not the only one struggling with these sew in name tapes. I set off last night feeling all earth-motherly sitting there sewing. I even bought a sewing box, cotton, needles etc. etc. at the weekend and felt so grown up and smug...until I'd finished sewing in the first one and had hand cramp! Ds1 is just starting nursery on wed and they also insist on woven nametapes for EVERYTHING apart from the socks which I'm ironing on this pm.
Can I ask - those of you who loop and put a few stitches in - do you do this on everything or just the socks? Faced with 9 items to put the woven tags on tonight I'm trying to find shortcuts and am interested if doing them like this will not only save me time but will last on t-shirts/trousers/sweaters etc.

Depends tbh. Sometimes I do just a few stitches at either end or attach through the neck label in a loop if it is narrow enough. As long as they aren't going to use the label to hang it up by on a hook it seems to last ok. The only time I sew all the way round is on PE kit where they insist the label is on the outside.

Oh smoggie I empathise with you totally.... I found it really hard work. It took age longer than I thought it would. Well done for getting iron ones for teh socks!

wandering star - i bought those transfers and have already washed a couple of pairs of dd2s knickers and they have survived really well, look as new infact ( the transfers not the knickers!) so i am hopeful they will allsurvive a term ...
