Someone help me please. My fingers are so sore from sewing these wretched labels on. Wish I bought the iron on ones, but so many people advised against it.

Now I've got to the socks and dont really know where to put them. I guess the soles, so I did one (sewinig the ends on) but now I think it should be sewn all the way round. That is going to take AGES.

Someone help, please.....

I don't bother with labels on socks. At the end of the day they are so cheap I'm not fussed if DD loses a dozen of them!

Or are they special sports ones or something? With those my mum would sew the label at the top so that it wouldn't be seen when the top was folded over IYSWIM

naswm · 03/09/2006 17:34

The school specifically asked for names on socks.

I use a fabric pen and write the name on the base at the heel

Gobbledigook · 03/09/2006 18:16

Ditto Bettyspag - who cares if you lose a pair of socks. We were asked to label them too but I didn't. I labelled everything else though.

Spatz · 03/09/2006 18:25

I also drew the line at sewing labels on socks

LIZS · 03/09/2006 18:27

I form a loop and use 3 or so stitches to fasten them to the bottom of the inside cuff

LucyCat · 03/09/2006 18:28

My mum used to sew a blue cross into my socks so I knew which were mine - mainly for Brownie camp, as my cutlery had the same 'logo'!

ediemay · 03/09/2006 18:30

another fan of laundry pens here. I write initials in everything with it.

motherinferior · 03/09/2006 19:03

I scrawl DD2's initials on the base of her socks (to distinguish them from DD1's. There is nothing quite like trying to work out whether a pair of small pink socks is for a five year old or a three year old, IMO, for making you feel that parenthood has really contracted your horizons). After a while the initial fades a bit, but it's worth it.

Oh thanks everyone for all the tips. I've just been doing the pe kits. And came back on here for another break!

Another vote for a loop and sown with a few stitches inside the sock or on the cuff. I know how you feel I did 7 pairs yesterday!

Gingerbear · 03/09/2006 19:23

Jeez, there must be more to life!
Iron on labels here on the sole.

naswm · 03/09/2006 19:30

yes ginger, if only I had bought iron on labels that is what I would be doing I can tell you!

I'm another loop and stitch here (I have 20 socks waiting patiently to have their labels sewn in). I must be odd as I enjoy doing it

Tommy · 03/09/2006 21:46

I did iron-on for socks

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:47

on socks?

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:47

theya re 10 for £3 at tesco
let em lose em

foxinsocks · 03/09/2006 21:48

I've never labelled socks. Can't think why they would take them off at school (apart from swimming)?

DumbledoresGirl · 03/09/2006 21:49

cod - naswm's kid's school insists on them bein labelled. Daft I know, and as I said to naswm, if it were me, I would go to the school and demand they show me how to do it!

Jimjams2 · 03/09/2006 21:51

I've just ironed lables on the soles. Not sure they'll last, but still.

ocd · 03/09/2006 21:51

lol at sock
tll em where to stuff it

Mercy · 03/09/2006 21:56

Can you just write the name on the sole using an indelible pen?

Must it be a label?

Blimey, waht sort of school is this?

ProfessorGrammaticus · 03/09/2006 22:04

I agree - fold a Cash's one in half then it only takes three stitches to sew it onto the inside of the cuff

naswm · 03/09/2006 22:11

oo what a debate I started!

School doesnt 'insist', but politely requests that socks are labelled.

I should have got iron on ones, but didnt realise how much was involved in sewing them on.

pen wouldnt work as they are too dark.

They take them off for sports/swimming.

The socks may be an inexpensive part of the uniform as a whole, but I would still prefer that my DS1 came home in his own socks, if at all possible.

Next time/year I shall be buying iron on labels
