My DS studies in a British international school in Asia.

We are overseas and have heard nothing by email or mail at this point. I suppose it is safe to assume that DS did not get either a place or a wait list spot? Maybe they spare the disappointment letter till after the festivities so as not to put a dampener on them?? Has anyone received notice of not being successful yet? Because we were overseas I was in correspondence with admissions team so used to hearing from them. Any hope at this point do you think or should we resign ourselves to the fact that it is a No?

IndridCold · 29/12/2013 11:26

I'm pretty sure that the 'no' letters are posted at the same time as all the others, so whatever your letter says it is obviously stuck in the post somewhere.

I would contact Admissions asap, there may even be someone there tomorrow.

OH, thank you. We are in transit at mo but in Uk on Monday.

jollyg · 29/12/2013 13:11

Whoopsy. At airport now. Thanks so much

IndridCold · 29/12/2013 17:56

You've been amazingly patient! Hope you find out soon Smile.

Thanks IndridCold. /emo/te/thanks.png I have just sent an email now so we will probably know upon arrival. DS has the excitement of starting at new school Jan 12 which he is sooooo looking forward to so good timing either way.

My son was offered his place on 19/12/13 by letter, which we had to accept by 9/1/14 so don't think a waiting list place would ever be used unless someone said no and they'd know that by 10/1/14, so any waiting places would be known by now I expect.

waitlisted · 19/01/2014 22:18

Any insight into how Eton rank the waiting list, and if you have experience in getting your DS off it, what was it that helped your DS do that (other than prep school lobbying)? Do some boys move more quickly up the ranking than others and when do you start to hear that?

waitlisted · 19/01/2014 22:20

also approx. what proportion on the waitlist eventually get accepted on average eventually?

IndridCold · 20/01/2014 11:07

waitlisted unfortunately I think it can vary hugely from year to year.

DS was waitlisted in 2010 (for 2012 entry) and was not promoted until March 2012. After a year we were told that only 3 boys had been promoted, but there had been 20 the previous year at the equivalent time.

It's a very nerve-wracking wait I'm afraid, and it may last another two years. Your DS has done well to have got even this far.

Do PM me if you have any particular questions, I will try and help.

waitlisted · 20/01/2014 14:02

Thanks IndridCold...yes this year is a bumper year so who knows...and i have no idea how they choose who moves off ....meanwhile we will pursue our other alternatives....

grovel · 20/01/2014 14:22

waitlisted, can you tell us roughly where you live?

waitlisted · 20/01/2014 14:28

South East England, but tbh, if DS gets off wait list then fine, if not then fine too, it's not our be all and end all (though I know some feel that way) as sure he will have great alternatives but would be good to know where one stands.

waitlisted · 20/01/2014 14:30

wow IndridCold, that's a looong wait!

grovel · 20/01/2014 14:32

I understand your predicament. A boy who makes the Eton waiting list will thrive at loads of great schools.

waitlisted · 20/01/2014 14:38

Also, of the boys we knew, we can't really fathom why the couple that got "A" places did so, while the 2 or 3 others got rejected or wait listed ...it all seems a bit of a lottery and unpredictable...guess it may even come down to performance in a very short interview on the day.

grovel · 20/01/2014 18:56

waitlisted, it's really tough. My DS's housemaster at Eton put it this way - "our Admissions process is brilliant at delivering me boys who will do well here but it would be ridiculous to claim that we get the best every time. We're dealing with 10/11 year old boys on a given day. The margins are miniscule. The B listers in my house do every bit as well as the A listers. It's not an issue when they're here".

swallowfield · 20/01/2014 19:18

Has anybody heard of any boys who have already been promoted on the 2015 wait list or if there is already some sort of "batting order" at this stage in Year 7? Also, do the Winter and Summer tranches of Eton applicants operate separately once all the offer/rejection letters come out or are they all merged together into one big list now? I had read somewhere that they operate separately. Thank you.

Hi Hueyjun - I will send you a pm.

Blewbury · 28/02/2014 13:38

Anybody know if there has been any movement at all on the list for 2015? Has anybody heard of any boys being promoted in the past year. Although I have been told there will be movement next year (Year 8), I heard of one boy who was promoted before Christmas when he received offers from other good schools. Any other news appreciated.

Hueyjun · 07/03/2014 13:54

Hi, Blewbury, do you know your DS rank now ? Could you lease keep me inform your DS movement ? Thanks a lot .
