You can ring the Admissions Office on Monday morning if you can't wait for the post.

Fingers crossed for you all!

waitingforthepost · 15/12/2013 10:10

oh, IndridCold....can you imagine the long pregnant pause while they look for the result ..... But that might have to be the recourse on Tuesday if nothing arrives on Monday...

waitingforthepost · 15/12/2013 10:17

I am just curious how someone knew as early as the 9th though, as I thought heads only knew "shortly" before, we speculated ours probably knew end of last week when letters were posted out...though we never thought to ask as we were not sure if the protocol allowed for a nod or a wink...and we thought head may not want some parents knowing while others were still in the dark....

IndridCold · 15/12/2013 13:41

Waiting Oh I know! I would have been too nervous to even speak, friends did it though.

Best of luck for tomorrow anyway Smile.

Eton2016 · 15/12/2013 14:36

We received an email from Eton stating my son is offered a conditional place on 13 December. We believe the actual letter will arrive in the next few weeks, to our Asia address.

TRL · 15/12/2013 15:10

Thanks Michaela and Waiting for your good wishes - we're all really pleased for DS1. I hope you also get good news in the post tomorrow.

And well done to your son Eton2016 Smile

Eton2016 · 15/12/2013 15:22

Thanks TRL, our ds told us the tests were dreadful, but interview was okay. It was a total surprise for us to receive the offer. His music probably help him somehow as he has both grade 8 in violin and piano. We also believe his head master wrote a good report on him.

Michaelahpurple · 15/12/2013 17:33

The westminster letters were evidently also posted in Friday - i suppose it is quite kind of the schools to have them come after the end of term to lessen the "what did you get " chat in the classroom (and we just all do it on here insteadSmile)

waitingforthepost · 15/12/2013 17:33

I doubt his test was dreadful Eton2016, the test is adaptive so gets harder as you get things right I guess, so I think everyone finds it hard ...well done to your boy.

waitingforthepost · 15/12/2013 17:36

Michaelahpurple...I suspect it is left to Friday more to lessen the "Head, I must talk to you about my son not getting into Eton / discuss how to get him off the waiting list" conversations right at the end of term and give you the long break to mull it over.

TRL · 15/12/2013 20:00

Yes, Michaela, the Westminster letters were posted on Fri as we got our " Please come to interview on X" at the same time at the Eton offer (most exciting postal delivery we've ever had!).

Are you waiting for Westminster too? Westminster's was quite a small envelope whereas Eton's was a chunky A4 one ....

Really hope you get the news you're after tomorrow Smile

Michaelahpurple · 15/12/2013 21:45

Thanks TRL and waiting.. We got the westminster interview letter on Saturday - a bit earlier in term than I was expecting, being in the first full week , but at least that gets it over. Annoyingly it is an exact clash with one of DS2's 8+ exams - is going to be a fun week !

Michaelahpurple · 16/12/2013 13:16

An offer finally arrived this lunchtime. Smile

TRL · 16/12/2013 13:37

Michaela Grin Well done your DS!

AlisonP15 · 16/12/2013 16:19

What type of envelope does the waiting list letter come in?

IndridCold · 16/12/2013 22:27

Ours came in an ordinary DL (?) envelope (but it was 4 years ago).

Hueyjun · 17/12/2013 00:29

TRL, congratulation !

waitlisted....we will probably focus elsewhere now....

Eton2016 · 17/12/2013 10:37

For Eton common entrance, the kids will be tested on which subjects?

almapudden · 17/12/2013 11:02

English, Maths (level 3), Science (combination of all three sciences - separate papers though), History, Geography, French, Latin (level 3), R.S.

Eton2016 · 17/12/2013 11:10

Thanks for the information.

Eton2016 · 17/12/2013 11:57

From Eton's 2013/14 Admissions Brochure:

COMMON ENTRANCE
Boys normally come to Eton in the September after their 13th birthday, qualifying by success in Common Entrance (or alternatively via the King’s Scholarship). There is flexibility over the Common Entrance year for boys with an August / September birthday (and occasionally October), and the boy’s best interests in this should be discussed with the Tutor for Admissions and the Head of his present school.
There is also some flexibility over the number of subjects to be offered by boys who are not at a UK preparatory school, but there is a compulsory core of English, Maths, Science and one of French, German, Spanish or Mandarin Chinese. Eton normally expects higher level papers to be taken in Mathematics. Individual cases should be discussed with the Tutor for Admissions.

Latin level 3 will be a major challenge for my son.

almapudden · 17/12/2013 13:02

Is he at or going to be at a school which follows the English prep school curriculum? If yes, there will be very little wiggle-room over the Latin (unless he only joins the school in Year 8).

If not, you should discuss it with the admissions tutor.

In my experience, if a boy has had two years of Latin, they will expect him to sit level 3.

I've just started a new thread about boarding houses at Eton: "Eton Boarding Houses". Any advice would be welcomed.

Eton2016 · 17/12/2013 16:10

I have contacted the tutor for admissions' office and there are certain flexibilities for overseas boys. The preparation process has started in my household.
