Going to private school open day this morning ... dh wants to go in his jeans?!

Do you think this is OK? He actually knows some of the staff as he does assemblies for them, and tours round the church, so maybe that's why he feels quite relaxed about it.

He's not quite as convinced as I am that we need to go the private route for secondary (though he is coming round to the idea). And he has been to open evenings for the local comps in jeans, so...

hmm, good apology. 'I apologise but I'm telling the truth about you all being snobs and that hurts doesn't it?'

soapbox · 15/10/2005 21:42

Paula - my children go to private school so that I can avoid mixing with people like you

Blandmum · 15/10/2005 21:42

oooh!

paulapell · 15/10/2005 21:43

Hey, martianbishop, I'm not a counsellor for nothing you know..

broomstick - NEVER!!! HA

Blandmum · 15/10/2005 21:43

Fight, fight!

paulapell · 15/10/2005 21:44

Soapbox - my clients are people like you, see your kids soon....

LIZS · 15/10/2005 21:44

rtkm, are you stirring with that broomstick !

paulapell · 15/10/2005 21:45

GOODNIGHT ONE AND ALL!!

soapbox · 15/10/2005 21:45

I think not

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 21:46

"bubble bubble toil and trouble"

IIRC

roisin · 15/10/2005 21:53

AND they do Latin at this school, so I can look down my nose at other parents and their children and say "Oooh, my son learns Latin, you know?" Cos I'm so hoity toity.

Martianbishop - please feel free to discuss my finances, I don't mind at all! It doesnt take a genius to work out we haven't got a lot. How we choose to spend it is up to us.

And hopefully the boys will be grateful and take pity on us when dh retires and we're homeless

.

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn and cauldron bubble

yoyo · 15/10/2005 21:58

Roisin - this has actually become quite funny in a rather ludicrous way! Not everyone knows how passionate you are about education obviously.

Science Museum looking doubtful as DD2 has just got out of bed crying because she's scared of the tubes. It is not terrorism that scares but the thought that one of us might be left behind on the platform. Hopefully she is just tired as there is a Diwali festival in London tomorrow which sounds spectacular. Would love the children to see it.

I hope you manage to get there and enjoy your day.

DS2 wants to do chromotography tomorrow, which I think we can manage! DS1 wants to recreate an experiment to change 'copper' coins into 'gold' coins ... we only need a bunsen burner, caustic soda, zinc (of some kind - I wasn't listening and my chemistry is not up to it!) ...

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:12

Have you tried smarties Rosin?

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:22

Smarties? Can I turn copper to gold with smarties?

Seriously, what do I do with smarties?

Are you all just tormenting me now? What do you do with jelly babies? We have got jelly babies as it happens!

Sounds like you all had much more exciting science lessons than I did! Did you go to more expensive schools?

DH has typed this:

chromatography: Put a few drops of water on a saucer and add the smartie. When most of the colour has dissolved in the water, put a few small drops of the coloured solution about two cms from the bottom of a strip of filter paper. Put the very bottom of the filter paper in another small dish of water and allow the water to rise up the filter paper.

Also black ink is deffo brill -- washable

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:40

RED CABBAGE

BOIL IN WATER

PUT HALF INTO ONE GLASS AND OTHER HALF INTO 2ND GLASS

ADD WHITE VINEGAR TO 1 AND BICARB OF SODA TO 2ND

DEFFO BRILL

roisin · 15/10/2005 22:44

ooh thanks for the "filter paper" hint - we have loads of that. I was thinking I'd have to rummage around for blotting paper.

No red cabbage though, so that one will have to wait! We still have leeks, carrots, rhubarb, and pumpkins in the garden - anything I can do with them?

OP posts:
RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:50

Sorry no

But there is a really cool one with tomato juice and BROMINE {but it is too dangerous for home use}

Blotting paper doesn't work as well as filter paper he says

RTKMonherBROOMSTICK · 15/10/2005 22:53

CITRIC ACID AND BICARB OF SODA IN A ZIP LOCK BAG

ADD A LITTLE WATER SEAL THE BAG

AND IT WILL EXPLODE

DO OUTSIDE COS IT MAKES A MESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
