eBay new payment system that excluded PayPal

Does anyone use this? Is it compulsory? I'm used to PayPal now ( I only sell stuff like my old clothes, I'm in no way a business seller) and don't really want hassle getting my money. Any experience or feedback would help as I keep getting 'invited' and feel it may end up me making less money ( I tend to sell stuff at £10-15)

It takes 2 working days for the funds to clear, so if you sell on a Friday (or Bank Holiday) you dont count the weekend.

@anniesnap I suggest you read up on the new increased ebay fees that apply to Managed Payments.

Sooverthemill · 28/06/2021 17:03

The fees for managed payments are 12.8 % of final price so far as I can see. It's high but transparent which previously with both eBay and PayPal fees it wasn't!

"You pay one final value fee for items you sell on eBay, and you don't have to worry about third party payment processing fees.

The final value fee is calculated as 12.8% of the total amount of the sale (which includes the item price, postage, taxes and any other applicable fees), plus a fixed charge of 30p per order. If the total amount of the sale is over £2,500 for a single item, you'll pay 3% for the portion of the sale price above £2,500."

I've just learnt from eBay that if your on their managed payment system, if you do a part refund to your buyer then eBay wont re-credit you with the proportion of their fees relating to that part refund. Paypal used to do this. Thas it so bloody annoying and greedy of eBay and further inflates their fee margin if you refund.

I much prefer the new system. Waiting a few days for payment isn’t an issue.

Gingefringe paypal stopped doing that quite a while back

Hi all. So the new system is working OK for me so far, although I'm not sure how to refund buyers for postage if I've overestimated how much it costs to post an item - anyone worked this out? I also have some furniture that I want to list as 'Collection only' items. How would that work with the new system? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

I've ended all my items on Ebay selling now as the new payment system takes too long and is hard to keep track of. I also liked my separate PayPal pot as knew that was my Ebay stuff and I could easily keep track of it all. Now it dribs and drabs into my current account and takes ages. I'm still waiting for funds from an item I sent at the weekend.

I'm waiting for my bank to tell me l need a business account given the number of payments going into my current account.

I totally get where you are coming from with the new payment system. I've gone back to selling on eBay & I sold things on Friday and I only just got paid today in my bank (Tuesday).
You can see what payments are processing tho. If you go on the app, and then click my eBay tab at the bottom, then payments. It shows you what's processing in there, so you can physically see that they have actually paid (even tho eBay tell you they have too).
I wonder what the returns process will be like now with refunds etc if a buyer wasn't happy. At least with PayPal being the middle man eBay had some control over controlling funds. Now that it goes directly in your bank I don't see how they have that control anymore (like freezing payment etc).
I also don't like how you are still expected to post items without physically receiving the money beforehand. What if you don't have the funds to post it?
I do like how they take the fees out instantly tho. I see why they have done that.
I also miss having the money in my PayPal to transfer into my bank whenever I needed it. That way it kept eBay income separate from normal income, as it was in your PayPal so you could differentiate between the two.
I now transfer my eBay money from my bank account into my PayPal, so I can keep a track easily of my Ebay income. Pain in the ass. BUT you do pay slightly less fees now. Ebay take 12% or whatever plus 0.30p or something like that. Whereas before EBay took 10%, PayPal took something like 3.2% then 30p on top of that.

I sell antiques and vintage online. I sell my lower priced stuff on Ebay and my higher end stuff on a US site called Ruby Lane which is almost exclusively Paypal. I also sell through several private Facebook groups and we use Paypal. I would not allow people to come to my home for security reasons. Its very unlikely they would wish to do so as most of my customers are in the USA with a few in Europe and the far east. I did have a shop on Etsy but I closed it when their policies became so draconian.
