eBay new payment system that excluded PayPal

Does anyone use this? Is it compulsory? I'm used to PayPal now ( I only sell stuff like my old clothes, I'm in no way a business seller) and don't really want hassle getting my money. Any experience or feedback would help as I keep getting 'invited' and feel it may end up me making less money ( I tend to sell stuff at £10-15)

I've stopped eBay because of their system and them never siding with sellers only ever buyers.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 07/05/2021 07:46

Apart from the 3 day delay for payouts it's better. They take fees before payout so you don't get a bill the following month which I like.

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 07/05/2021 08:05

The option has always been there to pay them as you receive the cash in the seller account though? That's what I always did so there was no hangover from the previous month.

ElGuardiandenoche · 07/05/2021 11:24

@Spiceyornicey

I’ve tried schpock. Stuff listed for months with zero interest. Lots of timewasters, like on Facebook marketplace and gumtree. Not good.
Cheers @Spiceyornicey won’t be trying them then.

So are they making money off your money by holding on to it for a few days. So annoying. Have fees gone up too?

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 08/05/2021 20:11

Right, I've opened a Monzo account....now I just need a £1 offer and I'll be sorted! It seems that Ebay are currently offering an '80% off variable fees' deal as a carrot to get sellers to move over to MP, but from researching this on the internet it's apparently better for lower-value items Confused

Redburnett · 09/05/2021 09:32

I moved to ebay managed payments a few months ago. No problems so far apart from the slight delay in payments going into bank account. I post as soon as Ebay tell me buyer has paid. Best thing is they offered me a fee offer for 100 items - 80% off variable fees (still have to pay the 30p flat fee). This makes a big difference when selling relatively items like clothes, which is what I do.

fairisledog · 14/05/2021 12:56

I'm at the beginning of another big clearout of "stuff" and wondering what to do about the switch to managed payments.

Perhaps best to set up a separate current account with online access and link it to everything ?

Sooverthemill · 18/05/2021 09:41

I've received several payments now and it doesn't seem a hassle at all. eBay tells me when buyer has paid and that's when I post. A few days later I get the money

Surely this is better as you don't pay PayPal fees just Ebay fees right?

Sooverthemill · 18/05/2021 09:57

@AIMummy yes that's right. It does seem okay but of course I worry that eBay will hike up fees at some stage

I switched to eBay managed payments in January. I only sell used clothing that my family no longer need. The system works fine. E bay let’s me know an item has sold, they let me know when buyer has paid and the payment, minus eBay fees are sent to my bank account within 2 days.

HelloMist · 09/06/2021 09:53

I've come here feeling angry that eBay are demanding I add photo ID! It gives me privacy concerns (worried they could be hacked and also just don't see why they have the right to insist on it, even for smaller sellers). Angry

I would have stayed using PayPal if I could've. I've been selling for years and have good feedback. They have a lot of my data already, isn't that enough to do checks?

HarrietHairbrush · 10/06/2021 09:56

Question. Does the new payment system have the same “guarantees”
As PayPal?

saltncheese · 17/06/2021 00:26

Does anyone know if you are now protected on collection only items if the buyer pays through eBay?

I'm so confused, I think I've switched properly to the new system, and I've sold a few things, but no money has gone into my account Sad

LizzieMacQueen · 17/06/2021 11:25

@saltncheese, you need to give it a day or 2. It's frustrating but all you can do is change your shipping time to longer. Now I'm in the swing of it I do despatch once I see it on my ebay payments page because (as far as I'm aware) nothing will stop that coming to your account.

You had no protection before. You have no protection now.

Try Facebook marketplace.

jenbendy · 19/06/2021 09:52

Funds do seem to be sitting in processing for a long time. More than 2 days. I liked that PayPal was instant.

BaaBaaEmily · 23/06/2021 11:10

How long does it typically take for funds to enter your bank account? I sold some items last week, they took 4 days to 'process' and were cleared to pay me on Monday but they're still not in my bank account, and ive just spent £40 sending all the parcels off! I miss PayPal - the money was straight in my account

Payment is by DD. If it's a new DD agreement - which by the sounds of it, it is, then it will take time for the bank to process it. Once you've been paid once, subsequent payments are much faster - the money is in my account the day after the sale on most txns.
BaaBaaEmily · 23/06/2021 11:41

Ah that's great it'll hopefully be quicker in the future

mayblossominapril · 23/06/2021 16:47

I’ve opened a starling bank account and it shows on my phone when the money arrives. I didn’t want it in my current account.
The payments seem ok a little harder to keep track of but ok. I need to sell on eBay so no choice.

AnnieSnap · 23/06/2021 17:08

So far, I prefer the new system. I haven’t had any problems with it and it means no PayPal fees. Let’s face it, anything reducing fees has something to commend it since selling fees are so ridiculously high.

Sooverthemill · 28/06/2021 05:27

I’ve had payments going in to my bank account almost every day last week. It takes 2 days at most from
Buyer paying to me getting. I post once buyer pays. I think it’s simpler actually and have not yet had any issues.
