Beginning IUI with donor

Hi all,

I have just began the journey to become a single mum using donor sperm and IUI. I have my first consultation at the start of Feb.

Just wondering if anyone else is starting themselves or any advise on the process, any do or don't tips to try and nudge the odds in my favour.

I am 31, and as far as I am aware atm I have no fertility issues and regular af.

Great news @hopefulitsmyyear ! I did my 8 clicks of Ovitrelle on Wednesday, tested last night, there was a v v v faint line. Tested this morning and still a v v faint line but it is a little darker. Don't know if this is still the Ovitrelle from Wednesday. Will see what the test is like tomorrow. My boobs have been sore, and some cramping/ twinges for the last few days. Really hopeful this is it this time, although trying not to get too excited in case it is still the trigger in my system. I am now 9DPIUI so still very early

@SingleTTC31 Fingers crossed for you.
My scan this morning revealed the follicles aren't as big as they'd like, so, they've upped my evening injection & am back in Wednesday first thing for another scan.

@SingleTTC31 oh wow!! That sounds very positive!! Fingers crossed for you. When is your blood test?

@hopefulitsmyyear hopefully Wednesday will show a nice increase and you'll be ready to go 🤞

@TTCSOLO I have bloods Friday. AF due either Wednesday or Thursday. Thursday if going by IUI day but app is saying Wednesday. I've ran out of IC as I didn't order any this month, got some coming tomorrow. Bought some tests from Tesco as apparently I like to torture myself. I would t say there has been any line progression on the IC if anything they are disappearing. But did a clear blue just there which are 25miu instead of 10miu and have the faintest of lines. Not sure if photographed well. But my hopes are back up again 😂

@SingleTTC31 that looks really like the one I did at 12dpiui, I'll attach a photo if I can find it! But that definitely looks really promising! 🤞🤞

@TTCSOLO that does look very similar to mine. Hopefully it is a good sign. Did you try the IC ones? Mine have just came but I don't think they are more sensitive, used same sample as the CB and they are very very faint. More shadow like. Maybe they are just too cheap 😂 just need to wait and see what happens as the week goes on.

@SingleTTC31 I did a couple of IC ones, which were really faint, complete squinters! The last one of those I did was on 11dpiui and was really, really faint.
I think that CB looks good 😊

Hi Again :). Everything going well, I should have my first iui next week! It's unmedicated but the clinic said I've to buy 2x ovitrelle injections, is that the case usually? They said I may use one to trigger then to use one 6dpiui.

So it looks like it won't be a good outcome for me after all. Despite the positive tests, I have had spotting started last night and no positive this morning, although I did use a much weaker test as I ran out of the other ones. Bloods tomorrow but really not holding out any hope now 😞

@Iprefergin I haven't heard of doing 2 triggers but I did a medicated cycle & that differs a lot. Are you on any groups for advice? Good luck for next week 🤞🏻

@SingleTTC31 Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. I would say stay hopeful for your blood results but I know that I wouldn't. Fingers are firmly crossed for you 🤞🏻

@Iprefergin I have heard of people with an unmedicated cycle doing 2 trigger shots. I had 2 medicated cycles though, so don't know the details of it.

@Iprefergin that's what my clinic do. This cycle I only did the post IUI one. Cycle before I used both, just depends on your blood results. The second trigger is supposed to support the corpus luteum.

@hopefulitsmyyear and @ttcsolo thanks guys, but it's like full blown AF now 😞 I have taken tomorrow off work but at work today as I couldn't change all my meetings at such short notice

@hopefulitsmyyear the scan went really well!! Thanks, it was amazing to see, it feels a lot more real now. Up to this point I was still thinking they might have made a mistake! What's your next step in the process now? How are you doing?

@TTCSOLO Amazing! So pleased for you. Do you have your 12 week scan booked in? I'm having to freeze my embryos as I developed ohss. I'll probably go for next month or September cycle now.

@hopefulitsmyyear ah hope you're feeling OK? I've registered with my GP so she'll refer me to the hospital, she told me yesterday though that my hospital aren't currently doing 12 week scans 🙄 so she's referring me to EPU in the hope I can get one, but if I can't have one through the hospital, I'll pay my clinic to have a 12 week one with them I think, just for reassurance.

Do you feel OK about waiting a cycle or 2 now or were you hoping to go straight into it?

@TTCSOLO Hope they can fit you in. You can pay for reassurance scans at any stage I think. Are you getting any symptoms yet?

I don't mind waiting. There's always a risk of ohss when taking a trigger shot. I'm not feeling too bad now, just a bit bloated. I was worried to begin with because it can be severe in some cases. Just have to wait for my next AF & if blood results are ok, I can go then.

@hopefulitsmyyear sorry didn't see any notification for your last message! I'm booked for a 12 week scan on tues morning! That's in my local hospital, so very handy. I'm 11 weeks today, I've had sore boobs (no more underwired bras allowed!) and was feeling nauseous off and on, up until 2 weeks ago when I got a chest infection which seemed to stop the nausea completely weirdly enough!
I'm still on progesterone pessaries until next week, and they're making me really bloated, but I feel good generally thank goodness.

When is your next cycle due? Hopefully you don't have too long to wait, fingers crossed.

@TTCSOLO Ahhh. I'm so pleased for you. Good luck with your scan & great news it's at your local.
I'm ok thanks. Will be having the embryo transfer in September so I am using this time to eat well & exercise. I'm really hopeful it'll work. If not, onto the next round!
