Beginning IUI with donor

SingleTTC31 · 26/01/2021 18:16

Hi all,

I have just began the journey to become a single mum using donor sperm and IUI. I have my first consultation at the start of Feb.

Just wondering if anyone else is starting themselves or any advise on the process, any do or don't tips to try and nudge the odds in my favour.

I am 31, and as far as I am aware atm I have no fertility issues and regular af.

TIA

Oh no @SingleTTC31. I didn't have any bloods taken but ended up having a lot more scans than I thought I would. Good luck & hopefully it fits in with work.

@TTCSOLO I'm doing ok thanks. Had a bit of cramping for the rest of the day & have had pelvic pain since but I think that's all normal. Will just be glad to test. The hormone pessaries seem to give all the symptoms a pregnancy would so I'm forever wondering!
How're you doing?

TTCSOLO · 15/05/2021 17:21

@hopefulitsmyyear I'm in the exact same boat... cramps yesterday after the procedure, pelvic pain today, paying attention to every little twinge and wondering! But trying not to. The pessaries are going OK so far though thank goodness. These are going to be a longer than normal 2 weeks I think 🙂

hopefulitsmyyear · 15/05/2021 19:39

@TTCSOLO Awh! I think it will be the longest 2 weeks ever but hopefully worth it. Every side effect I'm getting I'm thinking is this it or is it the pessaries. Wish they didn't mimic pregnancy. It's pretty cruel when you think about it!
Hope you're able to keep yourself busy to take your mind off it Smile

hopefulitsmyyear · 18/05/2021 14:56

How are you all doing?

TTCSOLO · 18/05/2021 15:40

@hopefulitsmyyear all ok here, just some of the longest days ever! Time seems to have slowed right down. How are you getting on? How many days post IUI are you now? 7? 🤔

hopefulitsmyyear · 18/05/2021 16:08

@TTCSOLO it's a very long wait isn't it. I'm tempted by the tests you can buy to pick up early pregnancy - worried it'll be too early though. Yes, 7 long days!
Glad you're doing ok - have you any signs yet?

TTCSOLO · 18/05/2021 16:26

@hopefulitsmyyear I've felt a bit more twinges in my pelvis than normal if that makes sense? But nothing concrete, I'm only day 4 today though so probably too early for anything much! I'm trying not to overthink every little thing, but it's almost impossible! I can't decide whether to wait for the Hcg blood test or do a home test, at the moment I'm thinking I'd rather wait for the blood test.... but don't know if I'll actually have the patience to do that!

hopefulitsmyyear · 18/05/2021 17:14

@TTCSOLO I know exactly what you mean. If I have a wave of nausea I think it's that then remember I'm hungry! Hmm
Oh, I don't think my clinic offer a blood test - how many weeks after the iui do they do that?

TTCSOLO · 18/05/2021 17:48

2 weeks. I'm booked in at 10.30 on Friday 28th for it. They've said I can do a test that day as well. I think Hcg is what POAS tests are testing for as well, but the blood test should show that it's increasing when it's repeated (I think that's 2 days later as far as I can tell!)
What's your next follow up with your clinic then?

hopefulitsmyyear · 18/05/2021 19:27

@TTCSOLO wow! Didn't know anything about that. I've not got a follow up appointment-they told me to call with my results so I'm guessing that's it.

TTCSOLO · 18/05/2021 21:00

@hopefulitsmyyear oh the blood test just seems to be routine at my clinic? I just presumed thats what they all would do? I suppose there's not really any difference between a home test and bloods really is there? 🤔

hopefulitsmyyear · 19/05/2021 10:51

@TTCSOLO I'm not aware that my clinic do this. They've certainly not told me. I do think clinics vary in the things they practice. Yes, I'm hoping the poas will work just as well Smile

hopefulitsmyyear · 21/05/2021 13:46

@SingleTTC31 how're you doing?

@TTCSOLO you're a week down now! How's it going?

TTCSOLO · 21/05/2021 18:23

@hopefulitsmyyear All ok so far, I just feel really bloated all week! Nothing else major 🙂 how are you getting on? You're 10 days post now, how are you doing? Tempted to test yet?

SingleTTC31 · 21/05/2021 18:24

Hi guys! I'm doing fine thanks @hopefulitsmyyear start bloods on Monday, but not expecting I will ovulate until a week on Wednesday. It's been a absolute 'mare at work this week which has distracted me but also caused the healthy eating to go completely out the window 😂

Are you resisting the urge to POAS?

@TTCSOLO my clinic also do bloods to confirm PG, but think they only do one lot 🤷

hopefulitsmyyear · 21/05/2021 19:10

@TTCSOLO Oh the bloated feeling is horrid! I feel more bloated as the days go on. I'm ok thank you. Fed up with the pessaries but not much longer to go. I bought the FRER tests but am too scared to do it having read the trigger shot can take upto 14 days to leave your system & could give a false positive, I'd be devo if it did so, I'm going to wait! Time is definitely dragging though.

@SingleTTC31 Ahh, that's a good distraction. Good luck with your bloods. Are you doing a stimulated cycle too (sorry, I've forgotten!).

hopefulitsmyyear · 21/05/2021 19:11

@SingleTTC31 My healthy eating also went out the window. Need to get back on form. Yes, I've resisted to poas so far! Grin

TTCSOLO · 23/05/2021 10:29

@hopefulitsmyyear that's exactly why I'm to scared to test too! I'd be terrified of getting a false positive.

Hope everyone is getting on well?

SingleTTC31 · 23/05/2021 10:44

@hopefulitsmyyear I am doing unmedicated due to my AMH being high they are concerned about OHSS if I did Medicated.

hopefulitsmyyear · 24/05/2021 13:50

@SingleTTC31 are you going down the ivf route then ?

@TTCSOLO All ok thanks. Just tired & weary from the tww & pessaries! Hope you're ok? Smile

SingleTTC31 · 24/05/2021 14:56

@hopefulitsmyyear no I am still doing IUI just without any clomid/letrazole and probably no trigger shot either.

hopefulitsmyyear · 24/05/2021 15:00

@SingleTTC31 Lovely. I didn't realise ohss could happen with iui. Good luck with it Smile

hopefulitsmyyear · 26/05/2021 09:30

BFN this morning! Obviously gutted. Hope it's going well for you both.

TTCSOLO · 26/05/2021 10:51

@hopefulitsmyyear I'm so sorry 😞 hope you're doing ok?

hopefulitsmyyear · 26/05/2021 10:56

@TTCSOLO Very deflated and upset but it's to be expected. Just trying to decide where I go from here.
