Beginning IUI with donor

Hi all,

I have just began the journey to become a single mum using donor sperm and IUI. I have my first consultation at the start of Feb.

Just wondering if anyone else is starting themselves or any advise on the process, any do or don't tips to try and nudge the odds in my favour.

I am 31, and as far as I am aware atm I have no fertility issues and regular af.

I didn't test again as I was up for the beta HCG blood test today, I've just heard back from the clinic and they have detected pregnancy hormones!!!!! So I've to have the blood test repeated Thursday to check levels are rising, but so far so good 🙂

Nice to find this thread. I'm having my first iui next month. Really hope it works as I'm not sure how many rounds I can afford.

So.... Good news! My HCG levels rose from 78 on Tuesday to 222 yesterday 😃😃 so I'm pregnant!! Hope you're all doing ok today?

@TTCSOLO I've got the IUI tomorrow morning. Found out this afternoon. No trigger shot this time round.

Thanks @ttcsolo and @hopefulitsmyyear procedure went well. Was more uncomfortable this time as the catheter went further in I think. No trigger shot this time and no real cramping afterwards like I had last time. Fingers crossed it works this time.

@hopefulitsmyyear did they say how long after starting stims you would have the egg retrieval?

No, nobody has said but I think (from research) you stim for roughly 14 days before egg collection - some a few days less & some a few days more. I'll be having regular scans to check to see how well my follicles are growing.

@hopefulitsmyyear how are you feeling now? Are you still on lots of meds at the moment?

@TTCSOLO I'm feeling great thanks. No side effects whatsoever thankfully! I take one injection first thing & one injection at night. How are you doing? Do you get a 6 week scan at your clinic?

@hopefulitsmyyear aww that's great, I'm delighted to hear that. 🙂 I'm having my scan at 7 weeks, it's booked for the 21st! So only 2 weeks to go from tomorrow! I haven't contacted my GP yet, I'm not sure when you're supposed to? 🤔
Hopefully you've only got a week or so to go now?

@Iprefergin how are you doing? Is your cycle being monitored with scans or blood tests? Do you have a rough idea of when your IUI might be?

@ttcsolo it's weird feels like the IUI was ages ago yet it's only 5 days ago today so still a while to go before the beta. Think you need to refer to midwife soon as you find out, as booking appointment is usually from 8weeks and 12 week scan needs to be by 14 for some of the tests. Do you refer through GP then? That's exciting about the scan. How have you been feeling?

@SingleTTC31 Ah, I bet time is dragging. The tww was the worst bit for me & was when I felt my emotions were all over the place.

@TTCSOLO & @SingleTTC31 I have a scan tomorrow afternoon to check the follicles so I'm hoping to get some idea of when egg retrieval will be. I'm secretly hoping they're big enough & there's enough to book me in but, the nurse did say that's quite rare.

@SingleTTC31 my GP is on annual leave, but have a phone consultation booked for the 21st, so I'll have the scan in the morning that day, then speak to her. I've been quite nauseous on and off, and some cramps and bloating. But generally feeling pretty good! Hopefully the weekend will fly by and you'll be closer to your blood test, will you test before it do you think?

The scan was very positive - my ovaries are stimulating as they'd expect & I have another scan first thing Monday & should hopefully be in for egg collection on Wednesday. Starting to get a bit real now!
