Lesbian couple IUI Copenhagen

Hello! We are an Edinburgh based couple and are keen to start IUI next September. My partner is a little older and I'm keen to get started before the dreaded '35' decline begins so it's September 2020.

We have chosen a few donors we are keen on from the European Sperm Bank and are thinking of using Stork Klinik in Copenhagen because we like the regular meet ups with other Stork children and would like our littles to be able to meet / keep in touch with half siblings and others with families like theirs. I wondered if anyone had done this before? What were the challenges etc. Basically would love to hear from others who have done the same to see if we're being mental!

Hi, I have just seen your post as I am searching for info myself. My wife and I are Edinburgh based and are just beginning our search on how to start a family. We saw there was a Glasgow clinic with an office in Edinburgh, that seems to be the main private option here. Can I ask why you didn't go with them??
Was there any good sites or people you found to help in your research??

eatanazurecrayon · 03/11/2019 13:25

So sorry! Never saw this message!

We are going abroad because it's cheaper and more lesbian friendly / experienced. There are also a wider variety of sperm donors for the rest of Europe than here. We've just bought our sperm and are hoping to get started in January! Excited but also realistic that it could take a while.

Hi there,
I’m new to Mumsnet & came across your post. I hope all your plans are going smoothly. I’m a single mum to a beautiful boy & hoping to add to our family.
I too am hoping to start treatment at the Storkklinik & have picked my donor - also from the European Sperm Bank 😄 I’ve got my consultation on the 19th November with the clinic, really excited but also quite keen to get started - as you say need to be realistic it may take some time but fingers crossed.
Wishing you all the luck & happiness on your journey to motherhood.

eatanazurecrayon · 09/11/2019 08:40

Aww amazing!! Good luck to you 😊 we have our first IUI in January! Excited to get started.

Ohhh that’s so so exciting 😍 Not long to go now. Who knows, our paths may cross at the clinic ☺️ wishing you both the best of luck.

I'm really interested to understand how it works going abroad?
I am about to use UCLH in London for IUI but using sperm from ESB.
I looked at going to Denmark but for IUI you need scans in the run up to ovulation, are you having them locally?

Bvi123 · 13/11/2019 17:25

I have a consultation next week to discuss my treatment plans so can confirm the details for you but I would imagine I’ll have to have scans to track ovulation (these will be sent to clinic) - once a follicle is big enough, my gynecologist will give me a trigger shot and I’ll be put on a flight to Denmark for IUI.

eatanazurecrayon · 03/12/2019 21:00

@Bvi123 hope it all went well!!

Yes it did, thank you very much for asking. The nurse was so lovely, came up with a treatment plan to start with this month 😊 Trying not to get my hopes up....aware it may take a few tries.
Praying we all get our little angels.

Bvi123 · 03/12/2019 22:35

Apologises...I never got back to you. It was as expected, I have to ring the clinic the first day of my period (so they know to expect me within a couple of weeks). I’ll have to go see my gynecologist (who is local) around the 14th day of my cycle to check the follicle, have the scan sent to the clinic - only when it reaches 18mm can I have the trigger shot. At this point, I have to ring the clinic to let them know I’ll be on a flight the next day, where they will give me time slot to have the procedure. I’ve already arranged for the sperm to be sent to the clinic so it’s just a waiting game until then.
I hope that answers your questions. Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment.

Bvi123 · 03/12/2019 22:37

@SteffieIUI sorry this was for you ☺️ Not used to this.

eatanazurecrayon · 23/12/2019 22:44

@Bvi123 we've had our sperm delivered and are going as soon as I get a positive ovulation test in January. Hope it all went smoothly for you ❤️

@eatanazurecrayon That’s so so exciting! I’m excited for you 😍 Please keep me posted!
Thank you for thinking of me....I had my first ultrasound yesterday, I have another this morning but if my dominant follicle continues to grow, I should have my treatment on Boxing Day. Talk about inconvenient timing 😂 Fingers crossed.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas.

eatanazurecrayon · 26/12/2019 08:38

@Bvi123 good luck today ❤️

@eatanazurecrayon sorry, the above was for you ☺️

Greeneyes5 · 09/01/2020 12:31

Hi ladies :-)

Sorry to jump onto your thread but I'm also considering using this clinic for donor iui

How many times did you have to go out there?

Do you have a rough guide on the cost?

Any info would be great :-)

eatanazurecrayon · 09/01/2020 17:43

@Greeneyes5 hi! We go on the 13th (I think). Waiting for positive ovulation test 😊 were doing iui and the cost per cycle is roughly £430. This is our first time going. Will report back. Do you have any specific questions? It's been quite smooth sailing so far. Did an online interview thing, tracked ovulation etc for a few months. You can buy sperm from European sperm bank or Cryos and have it shipper to them. Otherwise you can organise through them but then you don't have as many choices.

Bvi123 · 10/01/2020 07:33

@Greeneyes5 Hi there, I had my first IUI in December and unfortunately I got my period yesterday so unsuccessful 😞 Of course very disappointment but MUST remain positive ☺️ I’m hoping to try again this month so will keep you posted.
All in all, for my first time I had a very good experience, everyone was nice, the clinic is very comfortable and you do feel at ease when you arrive. I’m based in Luxembourg and the actual procedure cost me 568,36€. I used the Clear Blue ovulation sticks to track my ovulation....as soon as I got my solid smiley, I spoke to clinic and they gave me an appointment the next morning so I quickly booked a flight and off I went the next morning. If you’re doing the ultrasounds to check your follicle growth I’d strongly advise you get blood tests each time as well - the reason I say this is because I had my first ultrasound on the 23rd and follicle measured 14mm, 24th it was 15.5mm (both days no blood tests) & Xmas day it was 18mm but when the doctor was looking she said my follicle was a funny shape (like the egg had perhaps been released already) so I had a blood test there & then, was told to go home & call in an hour for results. She confirmed I was at my peak so it was about to release so I had to frantically start organizing but if I’d had the blood test on the 24th they could have predicted earlier. She also said to me, ultrasounds are good for checking measurements but blood tests are a good way to check what’s going on in the body, you can ovulate on a 16mm follicle - which I had no idea. I’m also starting to think that for this round my egg was only viable for a short window....in theory it sounds like perfect timing but obviously not meant to be. Sorry for the long story but I hope it helps you in some way.
@eatanazurecrayon I have everything crossed for you, sticky eggs. Baby dust ❤️

Greeneyes5 · 10/01/2020 07:59

@eatanazurecrayon @Bvi123 thanks for your replies ladies :-)

Did you have to have many tests before you had the iui?

Xx
