Once single do you still sleep on your usual side of the bed?

Grateful to be single now for over 2 years after a 20 year relationship.

I've noticed I still sleep on one side of the double bed, the same side as I did when married.

There's half of the bed not used and even an empty bedside table and I'm starting to wonder if that's odd.

Is this a thing? Maybe I'll mix it up

I do. I'd never want to sleep where ex h slept. A giant teddy sleeps there now with a cat on his lap. Even when I move and buy a new bed I suspect I'll sleep in the same side.

Im single have been for years i have a huge king size bed and lay in the middle like a star fish.
With all the fluffy pillows and role around.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 07/02/2025 19:54

I still sleep on one side, my dogs moved in on the other side!

Cotonsugar · 07/02/2025 19:55

Started off on my usual side, then ex’s after a few weeks. After a couple of years moved into the middle but now keep changing to even out the mattress wear and tear 😊 Also the dog dictates where I shift to quite a lot, as she sleeps on the bed. Still better than sharing with a partner 😊

SilentRetreat · 07/02/2025 19:56

If you sleep in the middle, are your pillows in the middle?

My bed seems entirely set up for me and an invisible man.

Invisible man has two pillows, a lamp and a bedside table.

He doesn't get the electric blanket though.

I'm not divorced but I'm single and dating. I sleep on the same side of the bed whether alone or with company. 😁

I’ve got six pillows 🤣.

M123gotns · 07/02/2025 20:04

Yes! I still diligently sleep on "my side". Although I have claimed all 4 pillows!

Happyher · 07/02/2025 20:05

I didn’t till I decorated and moved things round a bit and now sleep on the other side.

SilentRetreat · 07/02/2025 20:05

Size pillows! In what arrangement?

Three on each side. Lush feather pillows. I toss the ones I don’t need when I’m going to sleep.

Watto1 · 07/02/2025 20:10

I started off staying on my side but I seem to have migrated towards the middle. I still get in and out of ‘my’ side though. Pillows have moved to the middle with me (just my two pillows - if I ever share with a man again I’ll have to buy some more!)

Skade · 07/02/2025 20:13

I still sleep on the left, the dogs sleep on the other side. I tried the middle but couldn’t reach all my stuff on the bedside table!

I sort of make a nest with them 😄

SilentRetreat · 07/02/2025 22:45

Ok I'm giving it a go. Wish me luck, bet I fall out of bed.

I sleep on both sides, I have 2 different pillows. I used to change my pillows in the night when I got a sore neck from being too high or too low, but with the bed to myself I roll from one side to the other as I please rather than turning over in the one half. So if I lie on my right hand side im on 'his' side and if I sleep on my left hand side I'm on 'my' side.

millymollymoomoo · 07/02/2025 22:59

I sleep on the same side of my super king

my dog also shares my bed - much better than a man

Burntt · 07/02/2025 23:51

My bed is full of children 😔 if not I would starfish! Never sharing with a man again and as soon as the kids are sleeping the night they can get out too

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/02/2025 00:05

I had a real struggle with this. I was completely and utterly blindsided by my husband leaving me. He went on the Friday and the night before was the last time I slept in our bed (and room actually). I slept on the floor of our son's room for months (he was a baby).

Eventually I got a new mattress and rearranged the bedrooms. At that point I decided to sleep on ex's side because somehow it made me feel better than sleeping on "mine". I'd never share a bed or home with anybody again so I'm quite comfortable with my sleeping situation.

Starlightstarbright4 · 08/02/2025 00:07

I have bp monitor , remotes a laptop and my phone charger one side of the bed so sleep on the other side

TheFormidableMrsC · 08/02/2025 00:09

To add I do share my bed with my cat (now that kids don't jump in at every opportunity) but I'm such a restless sleeper and thus my cat sleeps on the furthest corner as he's learned that I'll boot him off if he strays too near! Poor sod!

Browniesandcustard · 08/02/2025 07:21

I’ve stayed on the same side since my split. The dogs have the other side occasionally 🤣

SilentRetreat · 07/02/2025 19:23

I still sleep on the side that's not even the convenient side to get to.

It's not even the same bed or room.

I think I'll have a go on the other side tonight.

Sleeping in the middle seems weird to me for some reason.

After my DH died I slept on the same side of the bed for years and years, even after I moved house the first time.

But after my next move and now in my current home I have changed to the more " convenient " side.

I hated how big the bed felt after he died.
I'm used to the extra space now but have never thought about gravitating towards the middle of the bed, I'm always definitely at the side. Infact sometimes a little too close to the edge of the bed.
