Tour de France 2023: starts 1 July - this Saturday

I thought we should start a new thread for this year's TdF, rather than recycling (Wink) last year's thread.

If nothing else, it irritates me by saying that it starts on Friday GrinConfused

Nicely done @HeyJackKerouac - both Yates looking good. An exiting stage, but frustrating not to be able to follow it on Twitter or check velogames! Perhaps I should try and be less dependent on social media for my road cycling fix.

I am pissed off that I cannot get highlights on itvHub. Also ITVx website is horrible to navigate, it's awful when you have to resort to google to find the simplest fact (like if TdF was on ITV4 at 7pm today). May resort to Eurosport / GCN.

Highlights on demand are usually only available a day later, so from tomorrow - I don't know if that is the issue?

France is a mess at the moment though. And the sprinters were really slow (I don't think this is a spoiler)

We have GCN. £40 for a year. Totally worth it.

Yes. I'm not at all techy and DH set it up but somehow we have GCN on our telly. I guess you need a smart TV and then you download the app? Maybe someone more knowledgeable can explain it better.

Depending on your tv you may be able to download the app
or
cast from your phone
or
hdmi laptop to tv
or
firestick .. download the app …. Though it’s dead glitchy and does a weird split screen thing 😏 I reported it ages ago but they haven’t resolved it ☹️
nevertheless GCN is deffo worth the money 👌🏻🚴🏼‍♂️

I'm last, that's standard.
Although didn't have any fallers.
ITVX is The Worst, apparently (according to the man who can drive the telly - it's like in Detectorists - 4 remotes and a really specific sequence of button presses that I just cannot be arsed to deal with).
I just try to catch them at 8 on +1 if I miss them at 7.
We have GCN but the Eurosport commentators erm....ermmmmm.......ermmm.....ermmm annoy me.

So we can talk about the stage after the highlights have aired in the evening, yes?

Absolutely loved that for a first stage - didn't think they could possibly stay away and the poignancy of them working together but only one can win!

We were pretty sure they wouldn't start the classic breakaway cat and mouse game and wondered if they would come to a gentleman's agreement, but it just looked like Simon couldn't keep up at the end. He's had his share of Grand Tour success so hopefully not too crushing for him.

We watched live - did the ITV team manage to interview the parents for the highlights?

Fab start to the Tour 2023.

I find not getting spoilered very difficult with the tour, because my phone seems to take delight in showing me stories once the stage has finished. I have to not use it for anything else between 4 and highlights.

(Just realised re the above, the Twitter issue is nothing to do with TdF or Astana - apparently since a couple of days ago, there is a restriction on seeing tweets unless you are logged into a Twitter account - not clear if this is a purposeful change or just an error)

@BookWorm45 - yes, it's a permanent new "feature" of Twitter Hmm, although Musk has kindly increased the limit of the tweets you can see (which includes scrolling past and may possibly include replies to a tweet Confused) to an incredibly generous 1,000 tweets before you exceed your "allowance" Hmm

Plus you can't view anything on Twitter unless you're actually signed in, so we need to try to do links to original articles rather than via Twitter Confused
