SheikYerbouti · 17/01/2008 07:02

No, I newver saw him. but My dad is a big fan and saw him in the 70s. My best mate Mike saw him in Londion during the 80s (Hammersmith Apollo, I think) They both said he was amazing.

IO was brought up on FZ. My dad is a bity of an old hippy, so there was always cool music on in our house.

Are you a name changer, Aura????

OP posts:
AuraofDora · 17/01/2008 10:08

AuraofDora · 17/01/2008 10:28

i find his music so amazing..
do you guys like the orchestral (yellow shark et al) as well as the rock?
i dont know what i'd do without it quite frankly ha ha ...

was thinking of him recently as he did want to run for president..now that would have been a contest...
such a sad unneccesary death imho

has anyone read that book Negative dialectics of poodle play?
found a copy for dh once in book shop very interesting!

we saw the play Thingfish at BAC when i was pregnant, they wanted to take it to the west end but i guess it never made it..
it was fantastic btw original costumes etc..

TsarChasm · 17/01/2008 10:30

Reading back I am equally impressed with SheikYerbouti. Imagine being brought up on FZ!

Mind you my dc should have more that a passing knowledge of FZ and Beefheart. I play it quite a bit in the car.

AuraofDora · 17/01/2008 10:31

tsar
the concert was good dont get me wrong but it all felt wrong something missing () i think they are planning to do it again but albert hall is shite venue imh venue o....

BibiThree · 17/01/2008 10:37

Yay! I'll join! Was a big fan in my youth, although have to admit to only putting the albums on once in a blue moon now Do you think my babbies would enjoy a bit of Yellow Shark today?

TsarChasm · 17/01/2008 10:56

Aura! The Fall . That's it....I'm moving in with you. I love the Fall! I saw them play about 1986 at Southampton University.

Don't get to see many live bands these days more's the pity.

I must admit I have a special liking for FZ's humorous songs. 'Have I Offended Someone?' is a great compilation (I don't play much of that to the dc btw!)

Beefheart is such an interesting man. Have you ever heard John Peel (another sad loss way too soon ) talk about him? JP was of course a huge fan of all this. I miss him.

LadyJogsAlot · 17/01/2008 11:01

doooreen... don't make me wait til tomorrow ...

oohh no ple ee ee eease doreeen, let me love you tonight.... and it'll be alright...

love zappa, my dad was a big fan. we played 'what's new in baltimore' at his funeral. vicar was bemused to say the least

fishie · 17/01/2008 11:07

ooh me too. his songs do stick don't they, i often have one burbling around in the back of my mind. camarillo brillo today. my hair is a bit like that.

LadyJogsAlot · 17/01/2008 11:13

best love song ever?

TsarChasm · 17/01/2008 11:25

I can top you Aura. I'm 43.

Great link JogsaLot. I'm playing it now

I'm enjoying this little gathering of like minded musical mnetters. Subjects like this don't come up much at the school gate. Musically the only thing I hear people talk about these days is the Xfactor . Now there's a thing I would like to have heard Frank's views on .

SheikYerbouti · 17/01/2008 11:32

WOW more zappa fans

My dad isa hardcore Zappa fan. He won;t listen to owt else now, bless him. He is in his 60s now, and has has his mind addled by the substances he took in his youtrh, so can be a bit bizarre. We used to have the Grateful Daed, The Doors and Jefferson Aiplane in the house when I was growing up, as well, of course, as Frank

Anyway, what's your fave album? Mine is probably Overnite Sensation. Esp Zomby Woof

"I AM THE ZOMBY WOOOOF, I'M THE CREATUIRE ALL YOU LADIES BEEN TALKING ABOYUT" I like to sing that in the car

I did a music degree and got into all of his orchestral stuff when I was there. I had a tutor who diod a lot of arranging of Frank stuff. We pleyed Dog Breath Variations once [so cool it hurts]

OP posts:
fishie · 17/01/2008 11:35

oh yes overnite sensation is my tippytip favourite. i wish i had it still.

BibiThree · 17/01/2008 11:35

Fave album? Hmmm ... >

sputnik · 17/01/2008 11:48

I went for years listening to nothing but Zappa.

My DD usually will not tolerate any music in the car, and bothers you until you change it, but the other I had on The Black Page and I think she was so gobsmacked by it she didn't say a word

SheikYerbouti · 17/01/2008 11:48

ahhh, the Black page

Fucking amazing

OP posts:
Wotz · 17/01/2008 11:49
