to all

haven't seen him since 97

is the O2 centre in Finchely and is it connected to the big Sainsbury's complex?

Did he do "The Best of You" Foo Fighters cover like what he did at the Superbowl?

God bless his teeny tiny Purpleness.

Howdydoody · 05/08/2007 12:22

The 02 is in Greenwich - used t be the Millenium Dome.
He did like 70s medley in the middle but dont remember The Best of You.
We had to miss the last 5/10 mins cos the trains were rubbish times so he may have done it then

suzywong · 06/08/2007 15:49

Didhe have Sheila E with him?

MrsScavo · 06/08/2007 15:51

Howq old is Prince now?

Cammelia · 06/08/2007 15:55

But Howdydoody did you love it like I did

We drove and parked in their lovely manned secure car parks as didn't want to rely on the trains.

Prince is apparently 49

Oh yes siree Cammelia he is a real showman. He definately knows how to perform - and that saxophone guy how long did he hold his breath?!!! It was amazing walked the whole length of the stage and around the circle bit blowing one note - did he do it at your concert?
The only bits we were a leettle disappointed at was the warm up (pants - one guy even shouted at her "we CANT hear what you're singing" which i thought hilarious and the kind of thing my dad would say) and him not doing 1999 and Doves.
But thats all

thomcat · 08/08/2007 11:19

I went last night. It was utterly out of this world amazing.
NEED to go again.
Best concert I've ever been to.

Cammelia · 08/08/2007 12:34

That's how I feel Thomcat but I can't because I couldn't bear it to be even a teeny bit less good

It was that fantastic though wasn't it

And I know from reading your posts that you've been to lots of gigs in the past (so have I)

Thomcat, I was there last night and am going again (and to the aftershow) on Friday. God it was AMAZING wasn't it?

Interesting that he came on at 8.30 earlier in the week. It was definitely 9pm last night.

I never had the PR album on CD so have downloaded The Beautiful Ones this morning from ITunes.

He had so much energy, it really was brilliant - definitely the best concert I've ever been to.

OliviaMumsnet · 08/08/2007 13:26

Howdydoody the saxophonist did that last night - one of the girls even got a hanky out to mop his brow. I think it's circular breathing, where you take on breath and then just keep rotating it (am not an expert but DH played sax in school and told me).

As for not doing 1999/Doves - the man himself put it clearly "so many hits. So little time"
[unbelievably cool emoticon]

Cammelia · 08/08/2007 13:31

The press were all there on the first night though so spect he wanted a good review

Did you buy tickets in advance for both nights Olivia

OP posts:
thomcat · 08/08/2007 13:36

Olivia- it was amazing wan't it. Trying to sort out tickets to go again too!

I know people who went first night and have been since and were there last night (how greedy) and they said that last night was the best so far!!!!!

So need to do that again.

Was gutted no Doves but yeah, So many amazing hits, so litle time.

Was also upset that I hung round till nearly th last person incase he came back on again as I read he has done and that was confirmed by the security guy I chatted to.

Whata show. He's utterly amazing. A true performer. Just amazing.
He made it feel like an intimate perferonce at tiems, others it was a roicking party or club etc, just amazing.

And the sax thing is circular breathing.

TC xx

I'm going on Saturday. this will be my first night leaving DS2 (6 wks old) so really can't wait. I'm anxious though about getting home - we plan on driving - does it take ages to get out the car park? Did it finish at 11 for everyone?

Any tips greatfully received!

OliviaMumsnet · 09/08/2007 14:18

Hi there - it definitely finished at 11 on Tuesday - I'll let you know what time it finishes tomorrow. Don't know about car parks as I got the tube and though I'm driving tomorrow, I'm going to the aftershow so not sure.

Cammelia · 09/08/2007 15:29

It finished at 11 when I went and we drove. It didn't take long to get out of the car park at all.

CountessDracula · 12/08/2007 22:38

Yes he was great!

Rather annoying little stars on 45 stylee bit but otherwise utterly brilliant

Great venue too! London needed something decent of this size

piximon · 14/09/2007 10:06

We went last night. Left later than planned so rushed in, only to be told there was no support act so we had plenty of time to kill.
He came on around 9 and finally finished at 10.45. The show was fantastic and I can't fault him except to wish it was longer. Loads of people left when the lights came on at 10.30 but I said to DH to stick around so we got another 10 mins.
Elton John was in the audience and came on stage to sing with Prince which I was really not expecting.
We were in the top tier which afforded a great view of the stage over all, and what a stage, but think I'd pay extra if possible to sit closer next time, I'd just bought the only tickets available at the time as they were selling out so fast.
There is a car park near the tube station where parking is £6 but you have to leave before midnight which is perfect for anyone not going to aftershow and much cheaper.

bigspender30 · 15/09/2007 22:10

I was there on Thursday night too and loved every minute. Went to the aftershow party which was fantastic( Prince singing Beatles, Led Zeppelin and his own stuff for 2 hours!)
Only down side was the hour wait for a taxi. Didn't get back to the hotel til 4.30am. Not used to going to bed at that time!

blousy · 17/09/2007 21:54

Oooh I'm going on Friday (his last night)! Am very excited

bigspender30 · 18/09/2007 11:57

let us know all about it blousy!

contentiouscat · 18/09/2007 12:01

Oh I saw him years ago on the Alphabet Street tour little chap is rather talented isnt he - amazing how he can spin on those heels LOL.

Strangely enough a workmate saw him a while ago and thought he was boring but she was a Simply Red fan so I took it with a pinch of salt. Cue irate Simply Red fans

MrsMarvel · 18/09/2007 12:22

Howdydoody, Olivia, the saxophonist is Maceo Parker, and old jazz-funker from the 70s (started out with James Brown). Genius isn't he! Having said that it was Maceo on the night we were there, perhaps it was someone else on your night.

blousy · 22/09/2007 15:10

did any mnetters go? It was amaaaaazing and I haven't come down yet!!
