This is going to sound very weird.. but:

My band have been asked to play a gig at an underground festival.. basically, the set is to consist of 3 hours of songs that will (quote) 'make people cry, in an uplifting way. Songs that will get you in the gut (any genre)'

NOW - the examples they gave were things like

Bon Jovi - ill be there for you
Rod Stewart - Handbags and Gladrags
Oasis - Little by little
Robbie - Come Undone
My Chemical Romance - Black parade

There were more.. I cant remember now!

Anyway - I rand the lads and we're all quite up for it as its not really the sort of thing we do. We have 4 months to practise, and learn all the new songs.

SO - our 'homework' is to each come up with 30 suggestions, and then we'll choose 30 songs out of the 150 to do.

So - any help with my list would be HUGELY appreciated!

When September ends by Green Day
or Everlasting or This is Yesterday by the manics. Just the way I'm feeling by Feeder

Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Always on my mind - by whoever did that first
Joy Division - take your pick there...
Tindersticks - another terrifically depressing band.

Earlybird · 06/04/2007 16:24

The versions I know of "Always on My Mind" are by Willie Nelson, with a version several years later by Pet Shop Boys.

willywonkasEgghunt · 06/04/2007 16:31

Agree with SpawnChorus about "Hallelujah" in one of its many guises, whether the original Leonard Cohen or subsequent covers by Jeff Buckley, kd lang or Rufus Wainwright. I cry every time I listen to it

SquonkyDonkeyHotCrossBuns · 06/04/2007 16:32

Father and Son - but see if you can sing the Cat Stevens version, not the Boyzone one
Agree with Comfortably Numb, but also Wish You Were Here.
I Grieve by Peter Gabriel
