bundle · 05/06/2006 22:37

bp - you've read one????

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:37

I've read a couple of his novels, actually. There was one about the Fat Controller that seemed a bit mystical, but then, I'd not read Thomas, so no wonder it was strange. And one about death, and Dulich (I think?) that was quite good.

Bink · 05/06/2006 22:38

I liked the breakthrough thing - the Quantity Theory of Insanity or whatever it was called. And the one about when elderly but rather independent mothers die what actually happens is they move to Hendon (was it?) - liked the deadpan of that.

But then when he started making a career out of how to boil up tummy remedies to skim off opiates, then he became just dull.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:39

I don't think he's pretty. But he has a great voice, excellent presence, and is very sexy. This was in person, which maybe makes a difference? I've not seen him on telly.

(It probably didn't help that the other person reading was Rick Moody, who isn't great at reading, was really jetlagged, and has the charisma of a wet fish.)

Oh, and I have a little book of his on architecture that's quite good.

spacedonkey · 05/06/2006 22:39

I'm with NQC: he is hot

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:39

Bink, that second book was the one I read and liked. It was something like Dullich or something.

Bink · 05/06/2006 22:40

NQC, that's very funny. Hendon vs. Dulwich, WHICH IS WORSE??

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:40

I don't know what either of those places are. I don't believe in anything outside zone 2. But it sounded like Dulwich.

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:40

SD: please don't agree with me when I'm being contrary, it throws me off my stride.

My taste in men is nothing if not erratic.

bundle · 05/06/2006 22:44

i know someone whose kids go to the same school as his...

Blu · 05/06/2006 22:45

He is certainly charismatic when reading live.

And charismatic is sexy.

But As We Know To Our Cost, charisma and wankerdom are very much closer than Dulwich and Hendon.

Blu · 05/06/2006 22:45

Bundle - so do I!

moondog · 05/06/2006 22:46

He he,Blu.
The title of your next paper perhaps???

I like him Blush

Heard him on Steve Wright (on way to work, boo) and thought his book is called book of Days which seemed very deep and philosophical, was quite disappointed when realised it was Dave.

Also enjoyed his "Halley-Bop" appearance on HIGNFY many years ago when he was clearly stoned or worse Grin

NotQuiteCockney · 05/06/2006 22:47

Oh, goodness, I fancy him, but I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. I've never actually gone for that type of bloke. I just fancy them from a safe distance.

Oh,I'll look that up thanks Blu. Smile
'Snow' is a really weird book. So...dense,and utterly different in style to anything I have read before.
Turkish govt. have dropped the ludicrous charges against him for daring to speak of Armenian genocide. Hardly surprising really..like they can join the EU with these attitudes??

How is studying/exams going btw?
Maybe you have already finished.
Any more developments on p/g front??
