Have only just bought the latest Coldplay Cd and its made me realise I am seriously lacking in what new bands are good to listen to at the moment.I'm not talking anything too heavy but I do do alternative-I am an Oasis fan/was a massive OCS fanatic-like Travis/Kasabian/Red Hot's-give me some other reviews on whats out at the moment that is rocking your boats...please!!

Athlete are worth a listen.

dropinthe · 26/08/2005 17:01

I am loving cplay-know they come in for criticism as being a tad wishy washy but I think Chris Martins vocals are v sexy and I fell in love with him on the Yello video way back, running along the beach.

theres nothing wrong with coldplay, i bought, a rush of blood to the head and even had dd's babybond video recorded to that cd!

Nik72 · 26/08/2005 17:04

You'd probably like the latest Idlewild CD, Promises/warnings (I think that's the title, it's in my car) - really melodic, not heavy at all.

charleypops · 26/08/2005 17:22

There's loads of really great music out there now, there's no way I can keep up. I love a lot of that Americana ("alternative" country) stuff, but can't think of any bands right now... off the top of my head things you might like are

White Stripes
Magic Numbers
The Mars Volta
Queens of the Stone Age
there's something about Baby Shambles I quite like,
Foo Fighters
Eminem
Not new I know, but you'll have stuff by Radiohead won't you.
The Doves
Elbow

Blimey, can't think of anything else at the moment...

Most of my iPod's rammed with pre 80's stuff

Nik72 · 26/08/2005 17:24

Powderfinger.

dropinthe · 26/08/2005 17:25

Bloomin 'ell CP-you are WITH it girl! But Eminem-not really ta! I know Radiohead are supposed to be a top band-must get my WinMX working now I have some names-saying that-I'd need song titles?????

'blinking lights and other revelations' by Eels is a brilliant album. saw them live about two months ago.

blueteddy · 26/08/2005 17:46

The snow patrol album is good.
I also like coldplay, keane, u2, the chillis, radiohead & athlete.

charleypops · 26/08/2005 18:01

Heehee - thanks dropinthe - hardly though, not these days! IMO the two albums to start you off with Radiohead are The Bends (voted best album of all time recently I think) and OK Computer.

charleypops · 26/08/2005 18:03

Have you listened to that song "Wires" by Athelete - has me in tears every time - it's about his kid who was in scbu

LilacLotus · 26/08/2005 18:47

ok computer was number 1 on the recent 100 best albums poll on channel 4. and i very much agree.

monkeytrousers · 30/08/2005 13:46

Radiohead
Radiohead
Radiohead

oh and Radiohead

I actually like Kid A and Amnesiac better than The Bends and OK Computer. LIke Hil to the Thief too but not as much as those two. We mush be due an other one soon. Come on Thom, get y'finger out!

Brain Eno
I'm always litening to Leanard Cohen too (it's uplifting!)

..God, I'm boring..

chloe55 · 30/08/2005 14:22

I love the wires song by athlete and only found out the other week the story behind the music - beautiful.

I really like james blunt at the moment too.
