Have only just bought the latest Coldplay Cd and its made me realise I am seriously lacking in what new bands are good to listen to at the moment.I'm not talking anything too heavy but I do do alternative-I am an Oasis fan/was a massive OCS fanatic-like Travis/Kasabian/Red Hot's-give me some other reviews on whats out at the moment that is rocking your boats...please!!

oooo, don't like athelete (apart from wires....which has also had me in tears, as does fix you by coldplay as i think of it as being about apple)

but definitely Kings of Leon, The Killers, White Stripes...all great.

i really like the sound of the maximo park singles, anyone have the album and is it worth getting?

Enid · 30/08/2005 14:30

Magic Numbers and White Stripes are played most frequently on my ipod atm

I also bought the Hard Fi album but its all shite apart from their single (hard to beat) which is brilliant.

sophable you met a friend of mine when you were at CDs house

chloe55 · 30/08/2005 14:31

Fraid not but am I weird for thinking that the Killers frontman is gorgeous

Heathcliffscathy · 30/08/2005 14:32

ooo enid yes, j&p they were lovely lovely people...

there are hardfi posters all over london atm, how does the single go, i've probably heard it (like you can sing it to me online hehe!)

Heathcliffscathy · 30/08/2005 14:33

oh no, killers frontman is v good looking (not my cup of tea, bit to boyish looking but deffo can see where you're coming from, esp in white suit with black eyeliner at live8)

lunavix · 30/08/2005 14:33

the killers... the killers... the killers!

Roobie · 30/08/2005 14:34

oooooohhh.......Brandon Flowers....!

Enid · 30/08/2005 14:34

you can listen to it on Itunes- it is really good but dont bother with the album

oh and the Gorillaz album is good

Ulysees · 30/08/2005 14:36

I love coldplay too, xandy is fantastic.

The latest album I bought is a Christian group (from Newcastle) called YFriday and it's amazing. Might not rock everyone's boat but does it for me

oliveoil · 30/08/2005 14:39

Super Furry Animals new one is good, Gorillaz, Magic Numbers, loads I can't think of. A good station to listen to is BBC 6, Stever Lamacq does a good show, think it is drive time 5pm/6pm ish, tons of new stuff on there.

You may be a lost cause though as it is well known that Oasis can do irreparable damage to ears.

monkeytrousers · 30/08/2005 14:44

Chris Martin is such a winger!

monkeytrousers · 30/08/2005 14:44

ho-hoo! How cultured is that!

nailpolish · 30/08/2005 14:46

snow patrol and the killers albums are amazing imo

isnt british music fab just now

Roobie · 30/08/2005 16:19

the killers are from the US though

sharklet · 31/08/2005 13:16

Heres a couple of different band I've not heard mentioned yet:

Ben Folds Five (funny clever alternative music with a poppy edge)

Ben Folds (Same as above but a bit more laid back)

Squirrel Nut Zippers (Fab to listen to on a suny afternoon with a glass of pimms in your hand! Perennial Favourites best Album)

Emma xx

This is cool! At the moment I'm listening to most of the recomendations here, but especially love The Magic Numbers, The Killers and Coldplay.
One of my all time favourite albums is Pet Sounds -Beach boys, which I would recomend to everyone.
Also, on a slightly french slant are Air (any of their many albums are superb) and Phoneix - United which just makes me !!!!!

Ericblack · 15/09/2005 23:11

Monkeytrousers - What does Chris Martin is such a winger mean? I like this thread as I'm so out of touch and surrendered to my 40 something ness by buying and loving the new Coldplay album. Fear that if I don't download music I will be in a cultural wasteland and relying on the Guardian is horribly predictable but unavoidable.

Ericblack · 15/09/2005 23:30

Right I see you mean whinger and I'm being a pedant (not even on purpose for a change). I am a Smiths fan so this is not at all off-putting for me. Shame he can't be as funny as Morrissey.

moondog · 15/09/2005 23:36

lol eric!
(I was getting a bot worked up myself about being so out of touch with the 'with it' street talk of you hipsters on here.)

moondog · 15/09/2005 23:37

The lyrics of 'Fix you' are laughably bad, jockeying for pole position with that public school ex army lad.
Utter tosh.

lunachic · 15/09/2005 23:39

beck havent heard his latest cd 'guero' he's maybe an acquired taste but he's def. a genius imho !

lunachic · 15/09/2005 23:41

franz ferdinand are good

moondog · 15/09/2005 23:41

May God strike me down, but I find Norah Jones very relaxing.....

(This from a Frank Zappa/Gram Parsons/Led Zeppelin fan. I'll be saving up to fly to Vegas to catch Cedline Dion in concert next. Shoot me now please.)

lunachic · 15/09/2005 23:52

doesnt norah jones have a famous muso father i havent heard her much but i know her voice is beautiful (unlike celine d !)

moondog · 15/09/2005 23:54

Ravi Shankar-taught George Harrison all he knew about the sitar, which as he recently admitted, wasn't much.

Who in the nmae of buggery does like CD I wonder???
