Milly Dowler, I was the same age as her when she went missing and it’s always stuck with me

SharpBrickMaker · 15/11/2025 21:28

Bennylyn burke and her beautiful daughter. The whole case never left my mind.

I can’t remember her last name but when I was about 12 a girl of the same age called Susan was abducted and murdered by a serial killer quite close to where I lived. He also killed a wee girl from Edinburgh.

i am also a Susan, rode my bike to my friends houses and was the same age. Its never left me. Thank goodness they caught the bastard who did it.

Her name was Susan Maxwell and she was abducted from Cornhill on Tweed in 1982 and murdered and dumped by Robert Blak.

The first name that I thought of when I saw this thread was Caroline Hogg, who was only 5 when she was abducted and murdered by Black in 1983. It happened quite close to where I lived. I was only 6 at the time but remember posters of her everywhere and lots of assemblies about stranger danger.

OSTMusTisNT · 15/11/2025 21:37

Susan Maxwell, I drive past the spot she was taken from quite frequently and can see her walking along that road in my mind. Never drive along that road without thinking of her.

Ben Needham, someone knows what happened to him.

This is the first who springs to mind when ever someone mentions horrific crime.

When this happened i had just had my eldest DC. I sat and sobbed watching the news because i really wondered what sort of world i'd just bought a baby into 🙁

Yes, me too. I remember reading a huge article in the telegraph on my way home from a work event in London and choking back the tears as I could imagine my own little DS, in his droopy nappy and sad face, being dragged around by strangers. My God.

It’s Sarah Everard for me too. I just think of the sheer terror she must have felt when she realised what was happening when she was handcuffed in the police car. Horrendous crime.

Agreed. She will stay with me forever.
There was a case many years ago of a nurse murdered on the bus by the bus driver. She was travelling home after her shift. The driver waited until everyone else got off. I knew one of the detectives on the case, who told me more than they should about it. It was horrific. I've never forgotten her either.

Susan Maxwell in Cornhill on Tweed. She was 11 the same age as me, and I also lived in the North East.

There was a little girl abducted from a caravan in Norfolk in the 1980s. Her name was Leoni Keating and I was about three years older than her, living in Norfolk just a few miles away. I remember the coverage, and then news of her body being found. The photo they used was stuck in my mind. I looked up the case just a few years ago (I'd tried in the past unsuccesfully) and learned that it was even more horrifying than I'd known at the time.

Sophie Lancaster. Both my children are quite emo/goth, and to think someone was brutally, horrifically beaten to death by teenagers for dressing the way my own kids do is just unthinkable.

MadeForThis · 15/11/2025 22:22

Noah Donohoe in Belfast.

dontforgettofloss · 15/11/2025 22:45

CoralPombear · 15/11/2025 18:39

Sebastian Kalinowski
Andrew Gosden.

I think having teenage boys myself has driven home that even as they start growing up and the rest of the world stops seeing it, how precious and vulnerable they still are.

Seeing a video of Sebastian on the news just about broke my heart, he reminded me of my own son, who although is a teenager, is rather frail (due to health reasons).

MrsALambert · 15/11/2025 23:41

The Dunblane victims
Jamie Bulger
Victoria Climbié

Hurting children is just beyond my comprehension

Edwinstarrihavefaithinyou · 15/11/2025 23:44

Melanie Sturton killed by her upstairs neighbour Pamela Gourlay.
Melanie was a young woman starting out in life such a tragic waste.

Rescuedogblues · 15/11/2025 23:57

My beautiful daughter who was sexually abused by her father, and all the other victims out there who never got justice

louderthan · 15/11/2025 23:59

Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Brutally hacked to death and nobody has ever been brought to justice. The OJ Simpson trial was a disgrace. The victims were barely mentioned. My heart absolutely broke for Ron Goldman’s dad. He was truly a forgotten victim.

Wildegeese · 16/11/2025 00:07

Stephen Lawrence.

coxesorangepippin · 16/11/2025 00:21

Just read about Kriss Donald. What an absolutely appalling crime.

That poor boy

Rip Kriss

Whatsmyusername94 · 16/11/2025 00:26

James Bulger. Utterly tragic

indoorplantqueen · 16/11/2025 00:36

Noah Donahue . Maybe not so well known in the rest of Uk but in NI. Heartbreaking and strange. I hope the family get answers.

Msmfailedusbad · 16/11/2025 03:31

Charlene Downes
Claudia Lawrence

ladyamy · 16/11/2025 06:35

Karen Buckley

OneOpalScroller · 16/11/2025 06:58

Damilola Taylor. I’ll never forget him. Completely tragic.

Linnytwinny · 16/11/2025 11:09

Spottyskunk · 15/11/2025 20:25

This little boy has haunted me, I was so furious and distressed by it. So many missed opportunities to save him. The police even threatened to arrest the family for breaking covid rules if they attempted to go to the house. I even wrote to the Children's Commissioner, I was so incandescent with rage.

This thread made me feel a bit sick.

Its the same feeling I had when I went on a Tinder date, and the man told me that he loves to watch true crime and he likes pain and being slapped in bed.

A poster said that the OP of this threqd starts lots of similar threads like this.

Don't feed the pervert.
