#MuNoWriMoMay22 - who’s in?

Morning all,

So Easter is behind us and there is a short, clear stretch before the school summer holidays arrive.

Who among your would like to join me in a writing/editing sprint during May?

I’m planning to edit my new manuscript written during the inaugural MuNoWriMo back in February 😊

We can keep each other on-track by checking in with progress reports, and spurring each other to stay with the process every day.

This time it would be great to share more about what we are working on, too, don’t you think?

Starting tomorrow. Do as little or as much as you can. Just drop into the flow.

Who’s in?

I'm off on holiday in a couple of months and I'd love to have finished my first draft by then!!

IShouldBeWriting · 07/06/2022 16:49

@cloudmessenger
Thanks for the nudge. I have a lot of distractions at the moment but we will see.

MargaretThursday · 07/06/2022 21:32

I'm editing still! I'd like to get it ready and try submission, although I don't think there's enough to stand it out from the crowd. I'm in a crit group so am editing and putting the chapters for them up, which is really helpful.

BelladiMamma · 08/06/2022 14:09

Oh dear gods of writing and fellow scribblers

I've decide to rewrite the whole thing, in 1st person.

Not edit it, but rewrite the whole darn thing.

I'll be fine she says, shaking her fists at the fickle writing gods 😂😂😂

1k down and 79k more to go

snowqu33n · 10/06/2022 09:43

@BelladiMamma first person is great, makes things much clearer I feel.

Can you use Find>Replace to cut down on some of the work?

The gods of writing can be harsh sometimes. May they smile on your endeavors.😁

BelladiMamma · 10/06/2022 09:45

Thanks @snowqu33n

I've decided that it needs a complete refresh

Scene by scene it's pretty much the same book so I'm just rewriting as it's almost easier that way!

Aaaaaargh 😃😃😃

MargaretThursday · 18/06/2022 11:05

How's everything going?

I'm still editing. I think it's better... I hope it's better... but I'm doing 2 chapters a week with a group on Scribophile which is making me do it!

BelladiMamma · 19/06/2022 12:41

I need a reset. My partner is away a lot over the summer and I'm going to use that time to reinvest in the novel. I think I'm on about 1500 words a week which is slow for me ...

cloudmessenger · 20/06/2022 06:33

DAY 20 of the extended #MuNoWriMoJun22

Good to see a few more of you climb aboard. How’s your project going?

I had tech nightmares last week which broke my stride. I had only just got going on another story, then started the dreaded tinkering with the draft from May.

There are a only few weeks until the summer holidays now, long enough to progress the new story. I’m thinking of writing over the summer longhand, in a notebook, to avoid faffing with computers.

Wishing you all a productive week!

Thanks @cloudmessenger I have been at work and not touched my novel for weeks. After looking at this thread I leafed through it and remembered it is worth finishing.
I have also had tech nightmares - I thought my laptop was dead, but I turned it on and let it install a Windows update and new antivirus which took about three days, then it sprang back to life. Pen and paper method has a lot going for it.

StellaOlivetti · 25/06/2022 12:24

Hello everyone, you have my sympathy re techy nightmares @cloudmessenger and @IShouldBeWriting , I would much rather write by hand and present editor/agent with the whole thing shoved into a Tesco bag. I think Iris Murdoch did something similar, but I suppose she had the excuse that it was the 1970s. I have heard nothing about my second novel since pressing Send, and am trying not to think about it. To distract myself I’ve finished a short story yesterday and entered it for a competition. I now have to find a new displacement activity.

cloudmessenger · 25/06/2022 17:09

I hope you get the response your hope for @StellaOlivetti Everything crossed for you.

Damn the 2020s for the Murdoch Method being unthinkable! We are all expected to do everything ourselves these days.

Phew that your computer rose from the dead @IShouldBeWriting Mine did the same last time, and I thought smugly that I had cheated data loss, but then the hard drive really did die this time. Files now unreadable on restored laptop, had to get a new one. Days and days of work lost getting set up again, but at least I didn’t lose the whole MS.

Yes, before anyone asks, I’ve given in and started using the cloud now. Never again!

Are people still writing?

BellaDiMamma · 26/07/2022 13:35

Yes ... but not as much as I'd like ...

britneyisfree · 26/07/2022 13:37

Yeahhh. Just about Blush

cloudmessenger · 26/07/2022 17:41

Thanks for asking @LuciferRising Yes—notes for something new. Will need to get up before the kids to be able to write-write IYKWIM?

britneyisfree · 27/07/2022 12:59

@cloudmessenger I really need to start getting up before my toddler. I keep thinking how wonderful it would be to have hit my word goals before she's up!

cloudmessenger · 27/07/2022 13:05

I hear you @britneyisfree I daydream about being that person! It would be amazing to scratch the writing itch each morning then not feel the lack of time later in the day. Are you a natural early riser whose brain switches on like a lamp at 6am?

OP posts:
britneyisfree · 27/07/2022 13:06

@cloudmessenger no! I am the type who would sleep until 10 without an alarm.... well not since little one, but that's my natural disposition!

But it seems like the best way if I'm ever going to publish

MargaretThursday · 27/07/2022 21:16

I'm still editing but more than halfway now! That's good for me.

snowqu33n · 28/07/2022 00:19

I am so close to the finish line with editing yet can’t seem to make myself get on with it.
I seem to have THE FEAR that it’s all just a bunch of crap and I shouldn’t put it out there.
I need to give myself a shake and get on with it but life keeps throwing up other priorities.

cloudmessenger · 28/07/2022 07:46

You have little control over it @britneyisfree but could you get in the habit of going to bed early (9.30/10) to give yourself a chance of rising early?

Well done @MargaretThursday ! Don’t stop now!

@snowqu33n I absolutely hear you. I’m having the same feeling about my completed MS. It probably does mean more work is needed? Not a good reason to stop progressing, though. A little step each day, then hold nose and take plunge. That’s what I’m telling myself, anyway. Hold onto that golden thread whatever life is throwing at you.

OP posts:
britneyisfree · 28/07/2022 09:49

@cloudmessenger

I'm more likely to get up at 4am than I am to go to bed at 9..... although I did when my daughter was a baby, perhaps I should work my way back to that....

cloudmessenger · 28/07/2022 17:17

lol whatever works @britneyisfree (including not keeling over from exhaustion)

OP posts:
snowqu33n · 07/08/2022 09:39

Have finally finished editing the first book (!)😎
Now working on the cover, etc., and deciding what to do about ISBN
It’s a good feeling!
I am looking forward to getting the author copies.
Hopefully I won’t find some glaring plot hole at that stage😆
