First novel competition: If you think you've got a novel in you, but despair of ever being published, stand by: in partnership with renowned literary agency Janklow & Nesbit, we're launching a fantastic competition for unpublished novelists.

Submit the first 8,000 words of your novel - Janklow & Nesbit guarantee to read every single entry. One enormous stumbling block to getting published is simply being noticed - so this really is an amazing opportunity.

The fantastic prize on offer is representation by J&N - setting you firmly on the path to publication: get details of how to enter here.

If you'd like to enter, but could use a bit of bespoke advice, we've organised a one-day Get Published course on Saturday 29 November 2014, where you'll have the chance to pick the brains of the Janklow agents and leading editors - and pick up tips from authors who've already broken through.

What are you waiting for?

@JanklowUK have just tweeted "our mumsnet competition shortlist will be announced today on the mumsnet website at 5pm"

OneFootIn1999 · 23/02/2015 12:03

Do you think the people on the shortlist have been informed already, with a clause not to blab on here?

TootingJo · 23/02/2015 12:09

Do you think they started reading the entries at 9am? Quick break to negotiate a six figure book deal, lunch with a celeb, then back to it to pick 6 promising stories by 5pm... I'm just glad I don't need to spend all day hitting refresh, I may now get some work done. Smile

pluCaChange · 23/02/2015 12:28

'Tis all about deadlines!

PatrickMumsnet · 23/02/2015 12:46

Hello all,

Just to let you know that the shortlist for the J&N writing competition will be announced on MN at 5pm today. We'll pop the link on this thread then. P

LadyLuck81 · 23/02/2015 14:52

500 entries. I don't stand a chance. Ha. At least I tried. I'm looking forward to seeing the titles in the shortlist.

OneFootIn1999 · 23/02/2015 14:54

LadyLuck81- everybody stands a chance Smile

MegCleary · 23/02/2015 14:56

No chance I know, I had the dentist this morning so this will be the nail in the coffin of today Wink

tenderbuttons · 23/02/2015 15:26

Do you think they've already told the winners?

Dobble · 23/02/2015 15:32

Why would they tell the winners before?

Five hundred entries. Phew.

pluCaChange · 23/02/2015 16:21

I do hope they won't put up the MNers' usernames alongside the entries. Surely that aspect will have been considered?

sniffle12 · 23/02/2015 16:33

It's both frustrating and comforting in equal measure that if we're not shortlisted we'll never know whether we came 7th or 500th Grin

fuchsia01 · 23/02/2015 16:40

Cannot handle the suspense

Claireindc · 23/02/2015 16:42

Glad to see I'm not the only one losing it with the suspense!

Claireindc · 23/02/2015 16:47

Kerry, often they stop after just a couple of minutes. That's why it's so important to have a really grabby beginning... :/ It's kind of discouraging, I know.

LexiBrown · 23/02/2015 16:48

I didn't put my username on mine - were we supposed to?

pluCaChange · 23/02/2015 16:51

They will be fucking lynched if it's not up on time. Think of the effect of disappointing a Biblical squirm of vipers... in the children's witching hour... AT LENT.

Think very hard.

Claireindc · 23/02/2015 16:59

Lexi, I felt like in general there wasn't a lot of helpful info of this kind around... I had to email them a few times for clarifications.

JessMumsnet · 23/02/2015 17:01

... The shortlist of 10 (yes, 10 - J&N couldn't choose just six!) is up over here.

Congratulations to the chosen writers, and thanks all for your entries.

MsRabbit · 23/02/2015 17:02

Where is it?

MsRabbit · 23/02/2015 17:02

goddam.

Claireindc · 23/02/2015 17:03

Oh well. Next time...

SnakeyMcBadass · 23/02/2015 17:03

Congratulations to those shortlisted Flowers

DonkeysYears · 23/02/2015 17:04

Congratulations to the 10! Well done!

LadyLuck81 · 23/02/2015 17:05

Congrats to 10 very excited people!
