Anyone writing a novel this November?
I've signed up for my first try!
I'm doing some planning and outlining at the moment and looking forward to starting.

Makemine/Toomuch - thanks, you're right.

I wrote zero words of actual story BUT I did make quite a bit of progress with plotting, so it wasn't a wasted day. I think tbh a historical with an unreliable narrator and interweaving narratives just isn't going to come out without a proper plan.

Also, I'm trying to write a jousting scene without knowing anything proper about jousting, and that's just silly.

coppertop · 08/11/2013 09:43

I'm falling behind a bit, but I knew that I would once school started up again. It also hasn't helped that I have a dc off ill.

I'm hoping to catch up a bit this weekend. I've written just under 10k so far.

AtomicLyn · 08/11/2013 11:16

Engels I'm not that person. I actually never posted on the post-natal group, I had a massively difficult screaming baby and I used to read what everyone else was doing when I was feeding in the night so I had company but I was too miserable to say anything myself. Hope things are okay with you.

Toomuchtea I love doing research too and sometimes get distracted. Mine's set in a slightly alternate 1950s. I thought I'd have a bit more leeway, but as I'm writing I know it needs to "feel real" so I don't have as much leeway as I was expecting!

I've hit 10k but did lots at first and have slowly tailed off with life interfering. I'm hoping to get caught up and maybe ahead a bit this weekend. And right now as I'm child free but I'm in an I'm rubbish funk that I just need to ignore!

Any writing is more than no writing!

JuliaScurr · 08/11/2013 12:04

breakthrough!! Just wrote about 50 words :D

Oh, but the quality...
Adding a bit of knifey foreshadowing involving tomatoes

CallingAllEngels · 08/11/2013 13:05

We have lift off! (Kind of). Managed to do some writing in car on way to UK yesterday and am now nearly on 2000. Not sure how much else will get written this weekend (visiting friends and family) and realise chances of reaching 50k are rather slim this year but ideas are beginning to churn and not ready to throw in the towel yet.

atomic I rarely post anywhere except my ante natal thread and good housekeeping (apart from my recent incursions into conception) so it's very funny that anyone should recognise me!

bacardi if you write 1667 words a day you will win!

SugarMeFingers · 08/11/2013 13:07

when i hit a bit of a wall i set a timer and write non-stop for 20 minutes. really boosts my word count and i'm sometimes surprised at what comes out of it.
Also i'm not worrying too much about the quality, just want to get my 50000 words so i can get scrivener half price and win obviously! my story is not going to be even nearly finished by 50000 words!
I am having lots of fun tho and when i come downstairs after writing my dh says i'm in a better mood, so that's always a bonus!

OK, I'm not sure what you lot have just got me into... read the thread, thought November 8th is a bit late to start, wanted to look at the NaNo site though and seemed to have to sign up to do that, so I did... then I wrote 1873 words of absolute rubbish and I appear to be aiming to write a novel this month. Hmph. About what, I have no idea. Anyone have any links to free tips to help with character /plot development?

I'm going to back through the thread and add anyone who's put their NaNo name down - mine is MangoLassi.

AlottaRunning · 09/11/2013 23:32

I've got over 20k now, quality isn't great but I definitely have something to work with. I've tried to concentrate on the scenes I know what I'm doing with and important stuff and glossed over the inbetweeny stuff.

I usually start off well and get well ahead in the first 2 weeks but tail off toward the end and finish on 50k on the 30th.

I don't know what genre mine would fall in, I've done something different each year, it started out a YA romance this year but it's moved away from being YA I think and not particualrly focusted on romance either Confused I always struggle with knowing what genre to put myself into as like writing a variety of things.

SugarMeFingers · 10/11/2013 13:19

I plan to get 20k today, i'm at 18,416 now so i'll do that after lunch. I'm having fun though and i've copy and pasted my writing from scrivener into word so it's saved a few times.
Also i made the word pages the same size as a paperback and put 2 per screen so it looks like a book, it amuses me to see it like that! i've got 81 novel pages.

Urgh, nothing at all today, been disaster relief organising instead

GrendelsMum · 11/11/2013 17:56

How's it going folks? I'm having a month off from writing and it's great!

Hope you and the family are all well, Loopa. Best wishes for your relief organising.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 11/11/2013 20:52

I am dropping out but for a very good reason connected with my last year's NaNo Smile

Will clarify once my disbelief has worn off.

Good luck everyone!

LoopaDaLoopa · 11/11/2013 22:50

Well done Tunip! Yay! :)

Right, just briefly, now that it's sunk in:
I sent my last year's NaNo to some agents (after repeated rewriting over the course of the year) and one has very kindly agreed to represent me. She wants to get it out to publishers before Christmas, so I need to drop the new NaNo for now and make my final changes to the old one.
I will pop in from time to time and cheer you on if that's ok!

ninah · 12/11/2013 21:19

ooooh! blooomin fabulous! (I had you down as a crafty name change on the 'what to do while waiting' thread Grin)
Many congratulations! I really like the sound of your ms. I wish you the very best. It's wonderful to see all that work paying off. Exciting times!

ninah · 12/11/2013 21:21

ps, any chance you could keep us posted on what happens now? am intrigued. And v nosy.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 12/11/2013 21:31

Thanks Ninah!
I am innocent of namechanging. Been Tunip for ages.
I will keep you posted. There are no guarantees - it's lovely to be over this hurdle but it's just the beginning really Smile

ninah · 12/11/2013 21:36

I thought you were really clever and talking to yourself as a double bluff, explaining nano etc Blush. Anyway, it was you I was thinking of when I said I have a really good feeling about this ....
That's a pretty major hurdle though! (don't I know it ... ) am intrigued by the view on the other side! (rushes back to Donald Maas, thoroughly reinvigorated).
I did manage a few words today. It was like pulling teeth, and not with oil like the rage is on s and b
