Did anyone see Simon Harris's treatment of the carer who approached him in Co. Cork today? Despicable, condescending behaviour.

I'll try link. It's on RTEs Facebook page & the comments match his behaviour. The poor woman was visibly upset.

You'll be happy to hear I am still thinking about the eternal question
"What is a woman"??!!

I have seen no articles implicating or placing any blame on the poor woman. Can you please link the article where it says she insults him.

No I never provide links when asked for them on mumsnet. Why would I. Its making me do work for you, that you can easily do yourself.

The articles are all there online.

You do realise that you can't demand anyone to do anything on here.

You're allowed to ask. And I'm allowed to say no.

All the articles I'm looking at are saying

"Simon harris walked away without giving her the time.
And

"Simon harris apologises to care worker the next day

And also

"Care worker insults simon. "

She said things like "yeah keep pretending you're a good man, you're not a good man"

the articles said that her tone was irate and insulting.

That's on all the articles. You can see it yourself.

In my opinion while he should converse with people better.
If someone is personally insulting him does he have to stand there and take it. She could have just said "we would like more funding can you put it in the next budget". Not insult

Maybe after 15 years they're sick of holding out the begging bowl and asking nicely.

Lallydallydune · 24/11/2024 10:21

I've just watched the video again. She does talk to him very aggressively. She says "you've done nothing for us" and "it's a joke" and "you're not a good man".

If you want a conversation with someone , don't approach them aggressively. He's only human.

Looking at him, I think he looks like he'd be happy if someone else became Taoiseach.

Politics is a tough place.

This was a woman who.is probably at the end of her tether and grasped at the opportunity to offload her frustration.
Imagine your child waiting years for a serious operation and all the while is deteriorating before your eyes. Meanwhile the country is awash with money.
Your children are working hard yet cannot afford to rent privately or buy their own home. Those who have properties available for rent are huge businesses from other countries. This is happening more and more.
Caring for vulnerable or disabled people in their own homes is a full time 24/7 job with little or no support. Most carers are finding it increasingly difficult to access any kind of respite as there is no availability. Same for long term beds. What inevitably happens is the person being cared for ends up in hospital, lies on a trolley for days, gets a bed, current issue dealt with , discharged to a tired and worn out carer for the cycle to restart yet again.
Carers are treated badly. The woman seized an opportunity to offload her frustrations and well done her. Simon Harris is a professional politician with lots of media training. He knows the state of the Health service, the lack of services, the poor ambulance service, the overcrowded hospitals, families who are unable to cope. Yet he breezes along with his jokey persona but as soon as he is challenged it's poor me. If he cannot take it don't do the job. He is all mouth and no action and sadly it's the most vulnerable in our society who are paying the price.
As for Adam. He is well able to speak up for himself and is doing very nicely. Well done him. He should object strongly to Simon using him to justify his inhumane treatment of others.

I do agree that there are a huge amount of problems in Ireland and that the place is becoming unlivable. That's why I moved away from ireland 2 years ago.

The system there is not working. It was bad before simon harris. They need to make deep change on the housing market. There needs to be rent caps. It's got to a ridiculous level.

You would rent someone's shed in dublin these days for 1600 euro and it'd be called a "studio flat".

Loads of young people are leaving.

Exactly, well said. I hope the nation stands in solidarity with Charlotte Fallon & all carers on Friday & Fine Gael lose a load of seats. This is a massive opportunity for the electorate & was a massive fuck up for Fine Gael as it has effectively finished their campaign.
There's no going back now, no PR stunts will wipe this away!

I don’t know the man. How could I like or dislike him?

I dislike that he is trying to use my brother with a disability when his brother is clearly high functioning.

Adam Harris is very able, but he now has strategies in place to manage his sensory issues etc. For example, he still finds it very difficult if someone near him on the train is eating crisps, but has developed ways to cope.

I can imagine growing up it wasn’t that easy for him and his brother will have been aware of that to a degree that most people won’t.

I have a DS with asd (‘high functioning’) and it is hard on his siblings. It’s nobody’s fault but it does affect the whole family and is very limiting in terms of what we can do or not as a family. Days out can be fraught even with a lot of preparation and management.

Adam Harris got his diagnosis for a reason and his brother will have more experience of autism than most politicians do. He will have been affected by it. From my own experience of living with autism in the family I can guarantee that.

"Bolox and lies" I've reported your aggressive and nasty posts. What's wrong with you?

Why do you need to be so nasty and horrible to everyone.

I see another poster has written on here that your behaviour has been really bad across multiple threads.

Yes but Simon Harris has only been Taioseach for about 8 months.

The state of the disability services or of anything in Ireland, is not much to do with Simon Harris.

Some people aim their aggression at leaders, without really stopping to think about it.

How many times are you going to ask. That's the fourth time now! And I've already answered.
My answer was no. And my answer hasn't changed.

Are you not able to accept a "no" from someone. Isn't that a dangerous trait in you.
That the first rule of consent.
You can ask someone to do something. When that person says no. You have to accept their no. That is called "consent".

My answer won't change.

We should do a little counting game .

Let's see how many time the OP asks . 4 so far! Of the exact same thing

You only have to watch the video to see that she insulted him.
Most people are fairly reasonable and can see that neither Simon nor Ms Fallon portrayed themselves in the best light during their encounter.
