Did anyone see Simon Harris's treatment of the carer who approached him in Co. Cork today? Despicable, condescending behaviour.

I'll try link. It's on RTEs Facebook page & the comments match his behaviour. The poor woman was visibly upset.

SH has a brother with ADD but Adam is the cEO of a charity in €100k He doesn’t require caring.

SH loves loves loves to trot out my brother with ADD.

Add stands for attention deficit disorder. Harris's brother doesn't have ADD.

He has autism

Why did she insult him though.

He was trying to talk to her and she said "you're not a good man".

What's the point in saying that to him. That's when he walked away from her.

Had a name change recently OP? What happened to the tae and craic?

I don't think either of them came across well here.
I think Simon could have been more patient, should have listened to her more, asked her about her situation and explained how FG might try to help.
I think she approached him in negative agressive manner and to come at him saying he was not a good man was a very low blow. That's not how to get a point across.
I understand she might have been nervous in front of the camera and felt at the end of her thether but it was clear in her attitude she was never going to give Simon a chance.
I also understand Simon was tired, after a long day and he does not have time for a long chat with every member of the public. However he could have shown more kindness and empathy in this interaction.

Personally I actually do think that Simon cares. I will vote for FG because I like my local candidate and I like Simon. If Leo had still been leader it would have been a different story for me. Simon is new in the job and he is not personally responsible for all FG have done wrong. But I think he is in the job for the right reasons and is genuinely trying to help.

I don't think the government work for any one person alone. They work for the whole country and it would be impossible to make every individual happy.

Apologies. That was autocorrect. I meant to write ASD. Autism Spectrum Disorder.

@MarieDeGournay he's the leader of the country in election week and you think his engagement in a 'did/didnt response' with a clearly upset woman was acceptable? Was that the best he could do after all his media and PR training? Bit concerning if so. And walking off is rude. He is not your average Joe.

He knows full well how it looks to the average voter or he wouldn't be engaged in damage limitation right now.

He doesn't have to stand there and take insults though. No one does even if the person is taoiseach.

I've seen uk politicians being shouted at. Some of these people throw flour. And you dont know if they could get violent or not.

They UK politicians dont stay and talk to these protesters.

They are ushered away by their security.

I can understand she's upset. But a better approach would have been to ask for more funding for disability services.

What did she specifically want anyway? I know people that work in disability services in Ireland. They seem to be very well run and well funded.

Come on now. We get it. You're voting FG. Don't insult us by dismissing her completely valid concerns. She works in the sector. She knows better you than you do.

I'm not voting for anyone. I don't live in Ireland anymore. However I still watch all the Irish news.

I've also worked in the disability sector in Ireland before for a year myself.

And two of my aunts have worked all their lives in the disability sector in Ireland. They told me all about it.

The children they looked after, were extremely well looked after.

In my opinion, the whole system of
having a
"Government" - ie having a couple of people to govern over a whole country, is the system that needs to change.

It's old fashioned and it doesn't work.
All of these parties are not much different to each other.

We need to evolve to a system where the individual person has more power in the running of the country. Not the few at the top

So happy to see the video went global & the backlash Fine Gael are experiencing plus a big drop in the opinion poll which was taken prior to Friday's awful incident.

I have to say it's not being reported as backlash on the sites I'm looking at.

It's kind of being reported as "they were both wrong"

I didn’t comment on what the woman did or did not say.

I commented that Simon Harris loves to trot out my brother Adam with a disability. His brother does not require any caring. I don’t know what Simon’s point is in My Brother with ASD.

Do you really not like simon?

To me he doesn't seem worse than any of the rest of them. He hasn't been in any scandals.

A low bar - but a lot of leaders have been in scandals!

I don’t know the man. How could I like or dislike him?

I dislike that he is trying to use my brother with a disability when his brother is clearly high functioning.

Actions speak louder than words & his actions in Co Cork spoke volumes. As did the actions of the local Fine Gael entourage who turned their back on the woman, followed Simon leaving her high & dry.

All the articles I'm looking at are saying

"Simon harris walked away without giving her the time.
And

"Simon harris apologises to care worker the next day

And also

"Care worker insults simon. "

She said things like "yeah keep pretending you're a good man, you're not a good man"

the articles said that her tone was irate and insulting.

That's on all the articles. You can see it yourself.

In my opinion while he should converse with people better.
If someone is personally insulting him does he have to stand there and take it. She could have just said "we would like more funding can you put it in the next budget". Not insult

You don't have to know someone to like them

For example people will vote in this election for the candidate that they like the most.

I don’t make judgements on people I don’t know.

I’ll vote for the candidate that I believe is the most competent & likely to deliver.

@Imperiallanger should we ask @taeandcraic to join you?
