Alister Campbell has said he was asked to do the Late Late results show on Nov 29th

DeanElderberry · 06/11/2024 09:24

You reckon that's a subtle clue?

I'll probably learn it here first because I've tuned the radios in the house to LyricFM, I can't cope with talk radio today.

So the friends I met for tea this morning were right when they said 29th November.

Harris can't back out when the scone scoffers AND Alistair Campbell have agreed on a date.

Claire Byrne said he'd call it on Friday when he's back from Europe.

Will he dissolve the Dáil, or will he announce on tik tok seemed the bigger question.

Thank you for the thread @DeanElderberry
Loved David Mc Cullagh's line when he finally---- prised a date for the election from Simon Harris - "That wasn't so hard now..."
😂

I'm electioned out at this stage.

I normally love an election but I feel all electioned out as well. However I have decided that as all DC will be off school that day it's going to be the Christmas decoration day. I think it will be quite a flat and lacklustre election if that makes sense.

I was told (by a friend who was on the count one year) that on very late counts they estimate where transfers would have gone, and that if there's someone - say DeanElderberry - who you are determined not to help get in on the 23rd count, you should vote all the way down, leaving DE in an unequivocal last place.

Vadakar is not running again I don't think, I heard or read somewhere he was the first sitting Taoiseach to not get in on first count. He was 5 counts with transfers

Roderick O'Gorman was in on 6th count same constituency as LV.

Siri is showing me articles that SH was 15 counts along with Donnelly before he finally got a seat.

Helen McEntee took 5 counts to get her seat.

DublinFemale · 07/11/2024 16:17

Writing the link below it is reading to me as do not put a number against anyone you do not want to see potentially gain a seat.

www.electoralcommission.ie/how-to-vote/

As transfers shift it is possible that someone 10th on the list will get your vote.

It you don't give them a number on the sheet that can't use your vote.

Apileofballyhoo · 07/11/2024 17:02

The Greens are more than capable of sabotaging themselves.

Trumped · 07/11/2024 17:57

I can't see them retaining any seats @Apileofballyhoo

Yes that's what I think too, just number the ones you want. No Varadkar isn't going but he's another one who got in on some of the final counts due to transfers.
Will be interesting to see how it goes. I wonder if McEntee or O Gorman will get back in..

deeahgwitch · 07/11/2024 18:10

Did anyone hear the interview Helen Mc Entee gave to Pat Kenny on Newstalk this morning?

"Dublin is safe"

F*ck off.
🥲🥲🥲

ladymactíre · 07/11/2024 18:14

I've just arrived home from work, and I had a lady at my door with a Norma Foley leaflet. I was very disappointed, as I hoped she will call herself. I couldn't say anything to this lady, just said I won't vote for her and that's it. She said nothing, just looked embarrassed, and said thank you. I felt sorry for her 😔Totally underwhelming

I know someone who has been doing the counting for years, Deano, and I believe they stay till the bitter end, regardless of the lateness of the hour, and carry out the counting of the votes with accuracy and integrity. It's something they are proud of.

The last election, with the humungous ballot papers which needed special shelving to be built to hold them, tested their stamina, they were working long into the night in some count centres, counting to the very last transferred vote.

I think it's something we do well in this country, fair play to the election workersSmile

DublinFemale · 07/11/2024 18:22

In saying all the above I do believe all of the above will be reelected.

@SparkyBlue

Can I check are you saying that even if I do not write a number against a candidate and the person I did is knocked out, the person I left intentionally left blank can still given my vote based on guess work

MarieDeGournay · 07/11/2024 18:36

But Dublin mostly is safe!
Any city is unsafe in places and at times, but this idea that Dublin is Armageddon-on-the-Liffey is one of these things that keeps getting repeated online, but thousands of people are in and out and around Dublin, working, shopping, visiting every day without any hassle.

Independent assessments say that Dublin is overall a safe city:
Dublin is one of the safest big cities that you can visit in Europe. It has a fairly low crime rate and few other factors that might affect your trip.
While you might run into petty theft or substance-related crimes, most tourists make it through their visit without any negative experiences. The city routinely ranks high in lists analyzing the safest cities in the world.
https://travellersworldwide.com/

Why do people keep denying this? Do they not read international comparative crime statistics? Have they never been to another city and therefore think that anything bad that happens on the streets of Dublin is because Dublin is a singularly awful place? Do they think Dubliners are all thugs and drug-addicts? Why do they want to diss our city like that? Or is it because if Helen McEntee says it, it must be contradicted, regardless of the facts?

Give Dublin a break, it's not that bad!

SparkyBlue · 07/11/2024 18:40

@DublinFemale Jesus I'm half asleep here no that's absolutely not true at all. Sorry I meant to say no. In my experience they are scrupulous as to how the votes are counted and checked. That's why the whole thing takes ages. If it's blank then it's blank.

Abhannmor · 07/11/2024 18:47

FF and FG governing together seems to have demotivated people oddly enough?

You'd think it would be a Eureka! moment with ppl saying oh wait , they're identical Tory parties. But maybe that's already 'priced in ' by voters. It might be a no change election with maybe Labour/ Soc dems replacing na Glasraí as the 3rd party doomed mudguard .

They would be just as bad as the Greens, hoping for independents
