I don't think GH really wants a seat but he is one who likes to show his smarts. No posters, leaflets anywhere. He could be relying on his notoriety.

What a better way than to give the finger to the state, huge trial and found not guilty to run for election

Yeap PD is probably the safest seat Dublin Central, he usually gets FPV from Cabra, Phibsboro area. That's his stronghold.

Mary Lou is inner city, still think she will get in but the other seats are going to hotly contested

Also hes much less likely to get jail time for any crimes like the money laundering hes accused of in Spain if he is a public representative the courts will not want to be seen to be interfering in another countries politics.

Didn't know he didn't have any posters or leaflets, hes clearly an environmentalist 😉. They haven't released the full interviews with him yet but theres a clip up on instagram, his voice sounds different than I imagined https://www.instagram.com/p/DCXcCv-sull/?hl=en

Thats the constituency Claire Daly is running in too so she presumably will take some of the more left leaning votes that would have gone to Mary-Lou last time and the Soc Dems TD Gary Gannon.

Did ye see Mick Wallace is running too in Wexford, can't believe we could be in a situation where we have both him and Daly back as TDs

Willie O' Dea said Helen Mc Entee was the worst Minister for Justice in the history of the State.

I don't know if she is the worst as I wasn't alive for a lot of them but imho I think she was pretty dire.

However FF were part of the Government that allowed a soft touch on crime, so pot, black and kettle come to mind.

And due to FF ineptitude pre/post recession so many Garda stations were closed and the number of Gardai declined.

What bothers me as well is every time that shes called out for being bad at her job she blames it all on sexism. I would love to see her lose her seat but I would suspect she'll retain it and given that Harris named her as deputy leader, she will probably get another ministerial portfolio next administration.

I'm irritated that FF are now all saying how bad she was, they should have forced a reshuffle or threatened to collapse if they were so aware and felt so passionately that the person in charge of one of the most important offices was doing a bad job but instead they voted confidence in her publicly

I saw yesterday that shes still talking about the late opening hours for pubs and clubs thats about 4 years in the pipeline, how can that not have gotten done or if you're not going to do it be honest about it https://www.thejournal.ie/late-night-openings-pubs-helen-mcentee-6543525-Nov2024//

"Even the Soc Dems are running a guy called Eoin Ó Broin in the same damn constituency as the original Eoin Ó Broin."

Wonder will many people get confused, the Soc Dems EOB is also a glasses wearer but bald and doesn't resemble SF EOB except for that they're both white and men https://www.sdcc.ie/en/services/our-council/councillors/cllr-eoin-o-broin.html

Surrealing in the Years: Has everyone in this country forgotten how to run for election?

I’m voting for the big newt.

All these promises by FF, FG and the Greens.
Why didn't you do them when you were in government and able to make changes for the better.

Do you take us for fools ?

miri1985 · 17/11/2024 10:19

I wonder is it because they know they'll be going into coalition so they will get to not put it in the programme for Government and then be like "we were totally going to do X but the other party stopped us"

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 17/11/2024 11:10

I've spent the last hour with my coffee reading this entire thread. I'm both dispirited and bemused. I would like to see McEntee, O'Gorman and Foley all gone but I fear they're here to stay (well hopefully ROG will sail off into the sunset)

At the end of the day we will be left with more of the same, what we seem to have had here for the last 20 years nearly. FF and FG are practically the same party. And regardless of who goes in with them or sits against them there will be no real opposition. Worst of all there will be no real change.

I have a good independent candidate in my constituency so I'll vote for him. I actually like the local Labour candidate too and he has done good for the community, but given the party stance on trans ideology I can't bring myself to vote for them. Family members live in a nearby town and have no credible independent candidate so they're now saying they might not vote at all.

It's not great is it.

deeahgwitch · 17/11/2024 11:26

What's the Social Democrats stance on what a woman is ?
There's a good Labour candidate in my constituency but because of their trans ideology, sadly I can't snd won't vote for them.

I disgusted with Labour. The candidate I had was completely captured & very condescending towards me when I voiced my concerns regarding female spaces & sports. He is completely on the trans bandwagon & said his party stands for inclusivity. I said your party is not inclusive of biological females to which he replied we are inclusive of all women...
Anyways we have an excellent Aontú candidate running in our constituency who I hope will take a seat.

Social Democrats captured completely.

Dublin Central is my area and almost everyone I meet is both GH especially inner city.

The concept is one of our own, ah sure you to, fair play to him.

There is total disconnect from the representation of DC now with the representation we have.

Gary Gannon was given a shot last time and I have seen nothing of substance from him, the last time he knocked at doors he brought his mammy who spoke for him and used the local connection.

MS is looking like my only option to vote for.

I was surprised to see Claire in DC didn't think she was from here and I didn't think she was elected last time in DC before EU I mean

deeahgwitch · 18/11/2024 08:31

On the back of your last post @DublinFemale I looked up some of the candidates for Dublin Central.
I can't believe Clare Daly is nearly 56.
I thought she was much younger than that.

Clare Daly was Dublin Fingal before which split from a 5 seater into 2x 3 seaters. Maybe she thinks she'll have a better shot in a 4 seater like Dublin Central?

You're in one of the most interesting constitutencies this election. I reckon it'll be Gerry Hutch, Paschal Donoghue, Mary-Lou and then the 4th seat will be a major toss up. I wouldn't be surprised if it went to Malachy Steenson or Clare Daly. Nessa Hourigan might be in for a shot if she transfers well but its probably a long shot

I'd say Malachy Steenson has a shot, he'll get Gerry Hutch's transfers.. Will Mary Lou definitely retain her seat? Has Aontú a Dublin Central candidate?

Has everyone heard the latest about Aontu and wanting to change with 12 week abortion rule? I was all set to vote them number 1 but don’t know if I can now. I did the NIPT test and my DH and I discussed in advance if there was a severe disability detected we would terminate. I can’t believe a political party thinks they could make such a huge life altering decision for us.

so annoying as on the other hand they are the only party who are standing up to gender madness.

no idea what to do with my vote now.

Soupfactory · 18/11/2024 10:20

I also haven’t had any candidates to the door!!! Have you all had many?

They won't be able to change that legislation, best case scenario they will be going in as part of a coalition.. I don't agree with their abortion stance but at least they are real opposition in every sense. They will get my vote due to their firm stance on transgender issues & they know exactly what a woman is. No party is going to align with all our views but Aontú aligns with the majority of mine & I feel they deserve a shot. Independents also.

Labour & Fianna Fáil. Unfortunately both very captured by trans ideology. The Fianna Fáil candidate was entertaining me & nodding away until I asked him what a women was & he refused to answer 🤣 Labour candidate very condescending towards me when I told him I did not want males in female spaces or sports.

Soupfactory · 18/11/2024 11:29

@Trumped fair play asking on the door. I have my speech ready just nobody has come to hear it 😂

I don’t know it’s really put me off them as a party hearing that re abortion. Pity. I don’t know if I can justify voting for them now (justify to myself I mean!).

Hutch and Steenson. Wtf. Well ye can't laugh at Kerry people anymore.

DublinFemale · 18/11/2024 21:55

I am doubtful of Neasa Hourigan, she hasn't been seen anywhere and she is GP who are unpopular .

I do think GP are in trouble, they don't seem to reading the room, picking ROG as leader was not imo a good move. They need fresh face.

I think there is about 13 candidates for 4 seats.

Gerry Hutchins is the proverbial black sheep, that could work in his favour. He also set up Corinthians Boxing club where Kelly Harrington started. His video shows him talking and huge banner of Kerry Harrington behind him.

That's a strong visual.

Hutch and Stevenson will bounce off each other. They could/likely will take FPV from MaryLou.

MS as a solicitor can at least speak up, but Gerry in the Dáil is an interesting concept.

Gary Gannon is in trouble I think he has not been seen anywhere the last 4yrs.
