What is the oddest song you've heard played at a funeral?

We had a family funeral and no-one knew what the deceased liked musically as they died at a great vintage...so as the curtains closed...the Enmerdale theme tune was played 👀 Apparently she enjoyed watching it.
Cannot now hear the credits without smiling.

My Dad had 'Always look on the bright side of life'. That was his choice.
All the rest for family members have been quite expected.

I had dave Clarke five bits and pieces song for my mum's final song.....it was her favourite when she went dancing with my dad . Had a few comments about it being too lively!!! 😁

Tom Petty’s Free Fallin at a friends who died from a fall. I couldn’t understand that at all!

Local pub landlord went out to “Hard days night” it was very fitting. He was well known for lock-ins well into the early hours.

My sister had 'la bamba' at hers (her son was 8 at the time and that was the song that reminded him of her'.

She was only 35 when she died and she picked the other songs which is really annoying as she picked songs that are played relatively often on the radio so always get the reminder.

Sorry for your loss. Your poor nephew. Actually crying xx

The archers theme

We played Fire by the Crazy World of Arthur Brown at my DH funeral. This was his choice. People looked startled when Fire started.

FrankTurnersCat · 22/03/2024 21:40

I would like Frank Turner's "eulogy" at mine - as the username suggests, bit of a fan!

We had quite traditional stuff at the church for my mum's funeral but at the crem bit, we had Flood by Take that & "peace in the valley" by Jools & Ruby Turner - raised a few smiles.

An older uncle had Ring of Fire and his wife had the theme tune to Match of the Day.

Eyesopenwideawake · 22/03/2024 21:46

My Wexford grandmother wanted "the Last Waltz" and she got it, despite the priest looking daggers at my mother.

Shaggy - Mr Boombastic. In a church 😂

My Mum insisted that Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell should be played at my Dad's funeral. It was his favourite song. Made us all smile, despite the sadness.

Bat out of hell was played at my Dad's funeral.

My uncle was interviewed for the radio when he was a young man and (for some reason) asked what song he wanted at his funeral- he said the laughing policeman, so that's what we played when he passed away in his fifties. It was quite surreal. His friend had 'They've Come to Take Me Away, Ha-Haa!'

MoonWoman69 · 22/03/2024 21:57

Our mate was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer, he was fit, he walked miles for charity, but he was also a loveable rogue! He told us all repeatedly what he was having as his last song at his funeral, we all used to laugh and say no, you won't! At the end of the funeral, the vicar said, "And the last words must go to J himself... Told you I'd do it, you buggers"... And then The Birdie Song started playing!!! We were all laughing and crying at the same time!!! Brilliant memory!

marriednotdead · 22/03/2024 22:00

My uncle was a regular in the bookies so we had the theme tune for the horse racing. Raised a giggle!

FairFuming · 22/03/2024 22:03

I knew someone who was carried out to 'living in a box' I thought that was rather brilliant

When my dad died I wanted Straight to Hell by The Clash. He was a massive music lover, a Clash fan and a bit of a character. He would have loved it.

Unfortunately my siblings vetoed it, so I chose Shine On You Crazy Diamond instead by Pink Floyd, the long version 😊

The end lyrics feel like they were written for him

Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

We played that at my Husband's funeral.

"Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun"

The Only Fools and Horses theme tune

LumpyKat · 22/03/2024 22:07

Another only and fools and horses theme tune here at the end of a funeral. She was a massive fan

PiggyPlumPie · 22/03/2024 22:11

The last funeral I went to had My Way by The Sex Pistols.

Always good to have a smile at the end of a funeral IMO.

NameChange1412 · 22/03/2024 23:31

We had Eye of the Tiger at my Dad’s ❤️

Inthewellwithjoseph · 22/03/2024 23:48

We walked in to Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd at my Dad's. It was his choice 😆

ShowerEasy · 22/03/2024 23:53

I’d like Galloping Home (the Black Beauty theme).

mirl · 23/03/2024 00:42

S club 7 and Steps at my friend's funeral. He was 23 when he died.

SomethingBlues · 23/03/2024 11:54

My dad had child in time by deep purple. My husband wants tubular bells even though we’ll have to explain it’s not because he needed an exorcist 😂
