Hospitals are cancelling appointments, a transplant was cancelled, we are going to be in lockdown... Why the delay? If they do it now there's hope we may get a Christmas...

Just came to this Board to see what others were thinking about this.

Yes, if they acted now theres a good 4 weeks before christmas to break the transmission.

Crumblinginside · 22/11/2021 13:17
Sad Another lockdown would be awful a miserable jan and Feb
eggandonion · 22/11/2021 13:20

I wish they had done it earlier, we did click and collect in work last November, which worked fine.
We had restricted numbers in shops in December. The people I know who were ill last Christmas worked in hospitality, customers unmasked.
I feel really sorry for hospitality staff with the uncertainty.
Should kids over eight wear masks?

Christmasdinner · 22/11/2021 13:40

I'd rather if they do it this side of christmas and have it over and done with for January. At least theres christmas to look forward to now. It would be very hard to face homeschooling in January again, it nearly broke me this year.

Click and collect would be much better than people strolling around shops deciding what they want to buy.

Tippexy · 22/11/2021 13:54

No, there’s not going to be a lockdown. 🙄

Cherrytart23 · 22/11/2021 14:12

Stop scaremongering. Why would there be another lockdown? Most of us are double jabbed what was the point in vaccines if gonna lock down again.
Where does it stay hospitals have are cancelling appointments?

Charliealphatangorara · 22/11/2021 14:23

Where have you heard this news about another lockdown? I can't see anything on the news? Or are you just scaremongering?

PenelopeVonDelius · 22/11/2021 14:26

Is this in Ireland?

SpringRainbow · 22/11/2021 14:26

Last I heard the experts were saying the Booster jobs were doing a good job of ensuring that we won’t have a lockdown? Confused

Although, I must admit I did half joke to myself that this means that we will definitely have another lockdown thenHmm

AnyFucker · 22/11/2021 14:28

Can you tell us what would be the point of a lockdown ?

eggandonion · 22/11/2021 14:33

Himself, Michael, has said something along the lines of trying to avoid a lockdown. My booster is due mid December if it's a five month schedule so 4 weeks to go.
I hope it won't come to lockdown, I don't want to return to all that.

HelplesslyHoping · 22/11/2021 14:44

There won't be a lockdown- that would actually help the country and they wouldn't do that. They'll keep saying everyone important is vaccinated and no one important will die so we'll all be fine Hmm

DramaLlllama · 22/11/2021 14:47

I don’t think there will be another lockdown. The booster jabs are working. The numbers in the uk are not rising dramatically. Yes they are high, but not getting particularly higher - not like europe. We have a much greater level of immunity than europe thanks to the high numbers since July.

Maybe masks will be reintroduced and working from home, but not a lockdown.

Maybe a covid pass to ‘persuade’ those who havent bothered to be vaccinated to get jabbed.

But not a lockdown.

Christmasdinner · 22/11/2021 14:51

@Cherrytart23 the main story on rte news says hospitals have cancelled appts and a transplant had to be cancelled.

@PenelopeVonDelius yes

@AnyFucker I'd rather see us take small steps like return to click and collect and homeschooling if it meant hospital appts could continue. A family member had surgery to remove cancer a couple of weeks ago but and their surgery was dependent on there being enough hospital beds and they were only told the morning of the surgery that it was actually able to go ahead.

I hope not either @eggandonion but its hard to see how we can gain control over it with so many cases every day.

We're in Ireland. (OP posted on the 'Craicnet' board).

We never stopped wearing masks and have already been told to work from home unless absolutely necessary.

eggandonion · 22/11/2021 15:06

My friend is due to have cancer surgery this week, with follow-up treatment. I have another friend patiently waiting for a hip replacement. Its really sad that people are suffering untreated.
That news from England is interesting, re , i suppose, herd immunity. But its difficult to know what to believe now.
I wonder if an extension to the Christmas school holidays, plus a fortnight of lockdown for the rest of society would help? Although family get togethers will happen, realistically.

Home Schooling being described as Small Steps

Did someone really just say that? WTAF

eggandonion · 22/11/2021 15:52

Its not a small step for people who go out to work, and it's not a small step for people working from home!

justasking111 · 22/11/2021 16:02

@Londonlassie12 could be a student studying the nudge theory

We've done it successfully for months already so yes, it would be a small step in comparison with imposing a full lockdown. I think most schools here in Ireland and well prepared for a return to homeschooling/online learning at this point.

I hope they get to have their treatment eggandonion.

Alieninmybody · 22/11/2021 16:06

Why are you starting a thread stating something as fact when there's no evidence that's going to happen?

ExConstance · 22/11/2021 16:10

There will be no lock down. The death numbers are very low and those who die are now either the un-vaccinated or the very elderly with numerous co-morbidities , you also need to remember the deaths recorded are deaths within 28 days of testing positive for Covid, so with older people can be deaths with Covid and not necessarily caused by it. Hospital admissions are down, it is only the number of infections ( many of them asymptomatic or in children) that seems to rise. Why on earth would the government want to lock down again? We need to just get used to living with it, have our boosters, and lead as normal a life as possible.

The hospital numbers are up and hospitals are struggling to cope? Are you listening to different news to me or just not in Ireland?

I don't know OP. I'm no lockdown lover but I think it is looking more likely. They are asking people to reduce social contacts but I don't think that is actually doing anything, if hospital numbers keep rising I'm not sure what the alternative is unless we want to turn people away when they look for care?

Londonlassie12 · 22/11/2021 16:47

If they're planning one I just wish they would get it over with so we'll be out of it by Christmas...
