Hospitals are cancelling appointments, a transplant was cancelled, we are going to be in lockdown... Why the delay? If they do it now there's hope we may get a Christmas...

How are you measuring the success in home schooling?

eggandonion · 22/11/2021 17:00

I think we need to make sure it's Ireland being discussed?
I have a dd in London, so keep an eye on English situations, but op is about Ireland!
I liked a bit on the radio about school inspectors being made into sub teachers!

DramaLlllama · 22/11/2021 17:22

^Christmasdinner - We're in Ireland. (OP posted on the 'Craicnet' board).

We never stopped wearing masks and have already been told to work from home unless absolutely necessary.^

Oops…sorry! This appeared in the trendinf section, didn’t notice which board it had been posted on Blush

eggandonion · 22/11/2021 17:50

Its a bit confusing, when Ni, Scotland and Wales have different rules too.
And if you pop over to the Irish weddings thread, then there's a whole bunch of other complications Grin

JaneJeffer · 22/11/2021 17:53

I think people don't realise this thread is about Ireland. Rumour has it we'll be locked down on the 20th.

Crumblinginside · 22/11/2021 18:34

Oh Jane the 20th!
We will get through it but it's so dull and boring Flowers

Udouhun · 22/11/2021 19:03

Lots of rumours. I teach in secondary and the rumours is we're not coming back in January.

PleasantBirthday · 22/11/2021 19:23

I was speaking to the principal of the school here and they are struggling. She's not sure whether they'll have to send children home in the coming weeks. Poor woman, she's stressed out as anyone would be.

Abitlost2 · 22/11/2021 21:21

I think it would be insane if they close schools again, our schools were closed for the longest in all of europe and no provision for key workers or students with sn, disgraceful. And yup lockdowns will slow it down but only for it to spread like crazy once restrictions are lifted. Alternatives should be looked into. I think it would just explode around christmas if we were locked down again before.. it'll be a never ending cycle and in addition would undermine the vaccine as i know many who won't take it again if we have more lockdowns.

That's crazy! What is people's reasoning for not having a booster if we go into lockdown again? Surely they would know that the reason for going into lockdown is that our hospitals can't cope and boosters will hopefully help with that. It would completely counterproductive to not get a booster shot if you don't want lockdown.
EmeraldShamrock · 22/11/2021 21:27

I doubt they'll fully lock down again.
People won't let it happen.
My Dsis is sick 5 weeks with covid otherwise healthy with double vaccination.
We had to carry her to the bathroom, thankfully she hasn't required a hospital stay.
My worry is the lack of beds for other
emergencies if the spread continues.
The school is rampant with covid.
It is miserable.

For the first time since all of this started my kids schools(one primary, one secondary) are getting multiple covid cases over the last few weeks. It seems like only a matter of time now until they bring it home.

That is my worry too, that people who are ill with other things just won't have anywhere to go. It is a tough situation, it's hard to know what the right thing to do at this point is other than push out the booster shots as quickly as they can.

Abitlost2 · 22/11/2021 21:35

Their reasoning is ( not mine) they thought the vaccine would slow / lesson transmission, they didn't want to get it but did it to protect others etc and to stop the lockdowns. If we go into full lockdown again they won't get the booster ( i don't agree at all) as whats the point as regardless we will be back in a cycle of lockdowns and disasterous school closures. Lockdowns will slow the vius down only for it to explode again.

Abitlost2 · 22/11/2021 21:41

But that's the thing @Mynameismargot , "if they don't want another lockdown", if we already end up in yet another one with a very high proportion of the country vaccinated, masked constantly, slowest lifting of restrictions some people will be totally fed up and cynical re getting another vaccine and their role. I am v v pro the vaccine btw.

EmeraldShamrock · 22/11/2021 21:54

There was 9 cases in one classroom in my DS primary school.

justasking111 · 22/11/2021 23:25

The booster appears to have worked in Israel

Silverswirl · 22/11/2021 23:32

@Christmasdinner schools closing is literally the biggest and worst part of lockdown for most parents? What are you talking about?

Nannyamc · 22/11/2021 23:40

Our cases are very high even higher than Austria who have locked down. 94% vaccinated and still this.Hospitals can't cope. Boosters slowly rolling out. Lockdown is coming when is the question?

honeyrider · 23/11/2021 00:58

With regard to schools closing it will probably be a repeat of the run up to Christmas last year, schools stayed open but so many parents kept their children off school from early December so they'd reduce the risk of covid ruining their Christmas meet up with their families.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 23/11/2021 08:20

Maybe in your house @Christmasdinner. I dread the thought of having to homeschool while working from home at the same time.

I'd say they'll close pubs and restaurants first.

Londonlassie12 · 23/11/2021 10:12

My dc closing the 23rd, even if they closed the 17th or 18th it would make a difference..

@eggandonion What's the Irish wedding thread ?
We've been asked to a wedding in December. I wonder will it be cancelled ?
I wonder will we go if it's not. We're doing no social things at the moment.

Londonlassie12 · 23/11/2021 13:51

All I have heard is that they are to finish at 12 like the rest of the hospitality sector..

eggandonion · 23/11/2021 14:47

Aibu to never go to another wedding again is the title of the wedding thread. I have forgotten how to link, if i ever knew!
I know they can be a right pain, but the wedding industry is huge, and keeps a lot of people in employment.
SuperValu here has antigen tests, behind the desk, like bold items!

PleasantBirthday · 23/11/2021 15:09

I got married a decade ago so it's nothing to me, but I do feel a bit sorry for the Irish brides reading the wedding thread - they can't do right!

Anyway, antigen tests should be in with the Bold Things.
