Boiler juice cancelled my oil order!

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 18:58

I live in a rural area in the Midlands where oil heating is our best option. On Saturday 28th February, Boiler Juice were promoting my postcode to encourage orders. As such I placed my usual timely order at a cost of £313. With things escalating in the Middle East I kept checking that the order was being processed and on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and even this morning the status was 'pending delivery' before Friday 13th March and the amount had left my bank account indicating all was absolutely fine.

Then late this afternoon at almost 4pm I had an email cancelling the order!!!!! I spent an hour trying to speak to someone only to be told they would accept a reorder but it would now be double the price. I could have understood this if it was cancelled on Monday but the price has steadily gone up every day meaning their delay in notifying me is going to cost £100s extra. Sadly both me and my youngest child have a genetic connective tissue disorder which means we need heat especially during a flare up or post surgery (due complex joint replacement surgery next month) when immobile and nonweight bearing.

Anyone else frustrated by Boiler Juice/ oil companies??? It feels like clear profiteering and a deliberate ploy to delay notifying clients so the cost is much higher. I'm not confident Boiler Juice will even honour the current price if I reorder. To add insult to injury they have also kept my refund in my Boiler Juice account rather than refund it to my bank from where it was paid. That will be another hour in the phone to request the refund to my bank and no doubt a two week wait for the refund to hit my bank.

What are others doing?? I have enough oil if careful to last for another couple of weeks but will the prices just keep going up and up??? If anyone has a crystal ball please advise 😉

We ordered 500 litres of oil on Tuesday....... Why why didn't we order it last week or last month
Price gone up from 63p to £1.23
Utterly depressed it's been a monthly battle recently too break even and this is absolutely not helpful

womananddog · 05/03/2026 19:02

I have had the same. It seems immoral when they had accepted my order and taken the money.

Figgygal · 05/03/2026 19:02

They also told us on phone they're aware of other companies already at over £1.40 a litre
It's not going to be over in a couple weeks unfortunately

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 19:08

Sorry to hear others are in the same boat. There seems to little on the news on how much the home heating oil has soared in just a few days and what the delivery companies are doing. Imagine the uproar if it was gas, electricity or petrol doubling within days. We can just be grateful that the summer is coming...that and hot flushes eh

Try ringing and ordering from the oil delivery people directly? Or buy small quantities from your local garage that sells kerosene to tide you over?

I’m in Ireland now but used to use boiler juice when I lived in the UK. They weren’t very good in my experience. I hated the awful delays after you’d already paid them.

Here I order from a local supplier and it’s usually same day delivery. Luckily, I topped up my tank a couple of weeks ago before everything kicked off.

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 19:16

Just had a look at Boiler Juice trust pilot reviews- they make an interesting read. Lots of people who ordered even before the war started have had orders cancelled or claims of phantom failed deliveries. Figgygal was spot on when they said it was immoral- it really is!

This is a pretty well known thing.
That £300 odd quid will now cost you £734 (I’ve been checking prices last few days).

I bet some of that fuel would have already been in storage too paid for at the cheaper price - complete profiteering going on.

Caterina99 · 05/03/2026 19:34

That’s pretty shocking OP. I think we’ve got enough for our house for a month or so (hopefully), especially as it seems to be getting warmer, so I will hold out and see if the prices stabilise, but I also need heating oil for our business and I’m not sure we can wait too long.
Plus of course the general rises and shortages of almost all fuel types - it’s just going to cost us all money!

CarrotSeeds · 05/03/2026 19:51

We got lucky. Ordered £2,000 worth about 10 days ago which was delivered on Monday. Would have been extremely costly if they had cancelled and we had to reorder 😳.

BurntBroccoli · 05/03/2026 19:55

You could maybe bring it to the attention of Martin Lewis, he’s normally great at raising issues such as this with MPs.

Wow that’s a big tank!

Mine is tiny and annoying only holds 900 litres 🙄.

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 19:58

Wow lucky timing CarrotSeeds. I procrastinated ordering all last week until I dipped the tank on Saturday morning 😞

Good idea BurntBroccoli - it's profiteering at its most immoral

That's appalling, use other companies direct, we find them cheaper and a contract should be honoured. As a oil user, we have enough for the moment, but this price rise is going to hit very hard, perhaps a Martin moment!

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 20:22

Well after your clarion call, I've sent Martin Lewis an email. Let's see if he has the bandwidth to share our stories and help us oil users. Now please no more encouragement as an angry menopausal woman can be a dangerous beast 😂

My granddad had the same problem, bless him! His order last week was about £300 and then they cancelled today (the day they were supposed to deliver) and now it’s going to be £800 to reorder which he can’t afford. He’s 89, I’m so angry at them!

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 05/03/2026 20:29

We got a delivery today. The price at the pumps has already gone up. I think there’s fuel tax that’s going to hit as well. Wonderful.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 05/03/2026 20:52

I posted comments on Martin Lewis's Instagram, let's hope someone takes note.

Cyclebabble · 05/03/2026 20:53

Ok this is interesting. I have not read the T+Cs in detail. I would have assumed that if you have agreed a price and paid, then the price is fixed. The oil companies buy on forward contracts, so at the moment, their costs are not rising.

Whatnow321 · 05/03/2026 20:53

Think we got lucky. We suddenly realised we were running low at the weekend and put an order in on Sunday. As it all kicked off over the weekend they hadn’t had an opportunity to put the prices up and we ordered at 63p. We’ve been really worried it would be cancelled but came today.

Really sorry they cancelled on you. It feels so pot luck and I do think oil companies deliberately profiteer at times like this

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 20:56

That so unfair blankcanvas3. There needs to be some priorities for vulnerable people like your dad on a fixed pension. He should not be worrying about heating his home. I hope you get something sorted for him. We got told by Alex from Boiler Juice that they had cancelled some 800 orders but not clear if that was locally or nationally. How many of those included vulnerable people?? It really is disgusting.

We gave up with Boiler Juice years ago and always buy from a smaller local company who don't mess us about and deliver 3 to 4 days after we put our order in.

FlyingPinkUnicorn · 05/03/2026 21:01

We were running low on oil but had enough to last a few more weeks. I push forwards our order as soon as the first bombs were dropped. I ordered Sunday evening and it was delivered on Tuesday. I think I paid 60ppl, more than I usually pay but I am very pleased I didn’t wait to see how it played out.

Same here, Boiler Juice was never the cheapest, and we shop around on each order.

We have bought the oil for him but we’re worried the order will get cancelled again and go up even more. I dread to think what’s going to happen to people who don’t have any other options at all to buy. We’re not in the midlands so it seems national
