Boiler juice cancelled my oil order!

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 05/03/2026 18:58

I live in a rural area in the Midlands where oil heating is our best option. On Saturday 28th February, Boiler Juice were promoting my postcode to encourage orders. As such I placed my usual timely order at a cost of £313. With things escalating in the Middle East I kept checking that the order was being processed and on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and even this morning the status was 'pending delivery' before Friday 13th March and the amount had left my bank account indicating all was absolutely fine.

Then late this afternoon at almost 4pm I had an email cancelling the order!!!!! I spent an hour trying to speak to someone only to be told they would accept a reorder but it would now be double the price. I could have understood this if it was cancelled on Monday but the price has steadily gone up every day meaning their delay in notifying me is going to cost £100s extra. Sadly both me and my youngest child have a genetic connective tissue disorder which means we need heat especially during a flare up or post surgery (due complex joint replacement surgery next month) when immobile and nonweight bearing.

Anyone else frustrated by Boiler Juice/ oil companies??? It feels like clear profiteering and a deliberate ploy to delay notifying clients so the cost is much higher. I'm not confident Boiler Juice will even honour the current price if I reorder. To add insult to injury they have also kept my refund in my Boiler Juice account rather than refund it to my bank from where it was paid. That will be another hour in the phone to request the refund to my bank and no doubt a two week wait for the refund to hit my bank.

What are others doing?? I have enough oil if careful to last for another couple of weeks but will the prices just keep going up and up??? If anyone has a crystal ball please advise 😉

Bloody hell. That’s awful op. And did someone say is now £1.23 a litre 😱😱😱
We have been bloody lucky. We’ve literally just moved and, despite vendor saying there was oil in the tank, there was none! I was cross, we’ve been on oil for years and I usually fill my tank August bank holiday weekend, when it’s cheap. But I had to fill it last week. Was raging but it looks like vendor did me a favour…..

Martin Lewis has just posted on this issue on Instagram, seems he picked up on comments.

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 06/03/2026 09:17

Wow - just looked at Boiler Juice's Trust pilot reviews this morning. Lots more added all saying exactly the same. Hopefully this will be picked up by Martin Lewis and the wider press but in the meantime I'm about to start ringing around independent oil suppliers for prices - wish me luck 🤞

It’s a legally binding contract once they take your money, they are in breech if trading standards, give them the opportunity to honour the contract with you by a certain date and then take them to small claims court if they don’t. They have done the same to me.

Chewin7 · 06/03/2026 13:59

I paid £455 for 700 litres with them on Monday, now they want over £1000. They took my money which makes it leagally binding, then waited until Thursday before cancelling. Price per litre in my areas has gone from 65p to 138p today.

Thank you to Martin Lewis for providing a platform to vent.

It's so frustrating when the news are reporting an increase of 20% on crude oil but my latest quote has gone from £313 for 500l to £861. That's heading for a 200% increase in less than a week!!!! All my local oil suppliers are now saying there's a 10 day wait and they'll ring the day before to share price details but to brace for an increase. It will be cheaper to head somewhere warm and sunny to see out the winter than to top up my small oil tank.

Same here, Boiler Juice was never the cheapest, and we shop around on each order.

Edited

I wonder if it’s the actual suppliers cancelling the orders though so Boiler juice can’t honour the order?

Would it be cheaper to use electric heating for a bit if you have one of those large oil radiators? Oh electric blankets are very cheap to run too. I have an electric shower too thankfully so at least I can keep clean!

i just hope these prices will start to fall soon.

Gizlotsmum · 06/03/2026 17:17

Oh ordered on monday ( not boiler juice) really hoping it isn’t cancelled. I have about a months worth in the tank so needed to order but scary how quickly prices have risen!

Thelankyone · 06/03/2026 17:22

It’s how much they are paying, the marker has gone up due to restricted supply , so when they get restock which was what your deliver was from, that’s the price, it’s across the board as nothing is coming out of the Middle East, it will go on longer than the conflict as there will be a recovery period.

caringcarer · 06/03/2026 17:30

Boiler Juice sound like crooks. I'd try to avoid in future if at all possible.

Trusttheawesomeness · 06/03/2026 17:31

I’m in Scotland and ordered from Bryce Oils on Monday, they delivered on Wednesday and charged me the Monday price even though prices had risen even since then. I’m glad I got my order in, and they were great - no cancelling!

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 06/03/2026 18:01

Thanks and yes I'm lucky to have a good supply of hot water bottles, heated blankets, a plug in portable oil filled radiator and two wall electric fires so won't go cold along with an electric shower. There'll be no baths and we will need to boil the kettle when there's items that can't go in the dishwasher so it's not disastrous for us should we not source oil in time. My heart goes out to those more vulnerable and hope that some protection is offered to them especially as the weather could still be chilly for another few weeks. I'll be checking on my elderly neighbours.

Can you buy it at the pump?
Im in Ireland and you can fill your own drums and pay.
I've just bought 80 litres to keep us going and hopefully coming into the summer it will level out a bit.

Dawnb19 · 06/03/2026 18:35

I'm not surprised. I live in northern Ireland and I've seen about 4 different oil tankers delivering constantly in my street. Everyone is panic buying the oil. I can't buy any now. I paid £195 for 300L two weeks ago and I was going to buy another 300l today as I was waiting for pay day when we ran out a few weeks ago but can't get any. They were also charging £285 on Tuesday for 300L. 🫣

RedRiverShore6 · 06/03/2026 18:36

It's on our local news Look East now about the costs for rural people and how much it has gone up.

We do have a red diesel pump at the garage but wasn’t sure if it would be okay for the boiler?

mixedcereal · 06/03/2026 19:49

Don’t use boiler juice, use a regular local fil supplier

ParisianLady · 06/03/2026 19:54

We had this, phantom failed delivery from the supplier, bunch of lies over email and calls, and then cancellation and a cancellation fee. I was absolutely livid and suspected profiteering from the supplier.

After much complaining they have contacted the supplier who has agreed to deliver next week at the same price. Whether that actually happens I’m not sure and I’m running on fumes at the moment with an almost empty tank.

Figgygal · 06/03/2026 19:58

We did And it was still £1.23 that was two days ago I expect it's worse now

My point was more that a local supplier of a repeat customer wouldn’t typically take a week to deliver oil from order.

it’s also not the individual suppliers that really set the cost!

we’ve used the same local supplier for 7 years, ordered on Tuesday and delivered Weds AM at 85p

NoAddedSugarr · 06/03/2026 22:02

@BurntBroccoli has to be kerosene, thats what home heating oil is

AndreS1 · 07/03/2026 08:04

boilerjuice are essentially a broker. They take your order and hedge against price. They make a profit on group gather across different areas and suppliers. So no contract is in place with the suppliers until placed. In this instance they took your order and held money until they would have placed an order. But market price has massively increased so they cancelled - it was never placed with supplier.

underthehawthorntree · 07/03/2026 08:10

I found nothing but issues with old deliveries until we joined the local syndicate. Do you have one near you? It's cheaper and less hassle as a lot of the admin is done for you. We are getting a delivery in the next few days which is something like 72p a litre. A lot more than our usual 56p ish but not as bad as some. Although I know it will be vastly more than that next time. X
