Also wondering if our Big has been naughty!

Today is a great day, DWs bonus day! So we paid off both overdrafts and 2 small credit cards. I had a long list of things to buy, including theatre tickets for the next year, so I've spent a fortune today. Feels good, so proud of her working hard and hitting her bonus target.

DW has taken next week off work after her stressful month, I'm proud of her for saying what she needs, when I tell you she NEVER takes time off for herself or calls in sick you should believe me. She feels burnt out and having a week together is going to be wonderful. And perfect timing post bonus so we can have lunches out etc. Then the money will be gone and that's fine!

BigSkies2022 · 27/03/2026 17:18

Honestly I haven’t said anything bad! I just posted about museums, a restaurant, weather and a mild misadventure on a bus that landed me in a sketchy neighbourhood. Dunno why MNHQ is concerned- will I ever know?

Anyway, just back from walk around the monuments and tidal basin and going to pack and start the journey home.

They say it's the quiet ones.
Are you Brian from Hull? ;-)

Lockin26 · 27/03/2026 18:39

It's the sketchy neighbourhood Big 😉 hope you are having a fabulous time!

£44 leg and bikini wax. This was well overdue as the beautician had broken her rib (ouch). I can go in the sauna tomorrow once I've done my gym classes!
£14 eyebrow tint and wax.
£28 pub lunch with friend

Had the pelvic scan on the 2 week pathway at 4pm and they said nothing to worry about. Drove home a lot lighter minded, with music blasting feeling like I was back in 1992 🎶

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/03/2026 19:15

Great news lock
well done muddling dw on the bonus and debit pay off

yeah yeah big. We believe you, many wouldn’t 🫢

BigSkies2022 · 27/03/2026 20:59

Who is Brian from Hull?? Since MNHQ isn’t going to put me out of my misery, can some kind person here take pity?

waiting for cab to airport. A trolley with delicious dim sum and mini cupcakes has arrived in the lobby. I will be coming back to earth big time.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 27/03/2026 21:42

Oh big skies you have never heard of Brian from Hull and his yoni message offers. You can enjoy some airport reading. Your welcome 😆.

MuddlingLong · 27/03/2026 22:13

Safe travels back Big!!

And great news @Lockin26 perfect way to start a weekend.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/03/2026 08:39

need Horse treats and dog treats today
also need to meal plan
was going to garden but there is a chilly north wind and I’m soft at the minute

NursieBernard · 28/03/2026 09:52

Great news @Lockin26

Enjoy the volunteering @MuddlingLong and how wonderful to pay off the OD and buy some treats.

Payday yesterday and budgets have been tweaked for next month. Food budget increased to £250 for the month and Diesel budget increased to £150, I just hope its enough 😬

I managed to put £400 into holiday savings this month, mostly thanks to not having a council tax payment.

I've been thinking about my brother a lot this week, especially when the sun shines. He was such an outdoor active person and he would always be out making the most of it, oh how I miss him 💔

I'm off for a hike later, I will take a flask of coffee to enjoy when I reach the top of the beacon.

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend 🙂x

MuddlingLong · 28/03/2026 10:31

Morning everyone, thank you @NursieBernard and love to you when you're missing your brother. Grief is hard.

Just spent £168 on a year's cinema pass, managed to log in to my old work discount scheme and it allowed me to buy one! Sneaky of me but their fault for not blocking my access! It's saved me £63 on a year's pass. And we only need one as I have a CEA card which allows me to take a carer (DW) in for free.

Off pottery painting at a ceramic cafe today! It's an expensive date but I'm excited about it. And we're going to a running shop to get DW new trainers.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Lockin26 · 28/03/2026 11:27

@NursieBernard I bet your miss your lovely DB 🩷 enjoy your hike and coffee.

Same here with the wind @lifelongfrugaleer I hung the washing out and clocked the wind before coming to the gym. Most outdoors thing I'll do today!

Enjoy the pottery class @MuddlingLong and good save on the cinema pass!

Aiming for low spend or no spend on grocery today, may have other costs as big to do list to work down later...

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/03/2026 12:02

It gets you at the most unexpected times grief doesn’t it

£19 spicery spices

Edited

In the spirit of the season I need to know more about this one.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/03/2026 16:39

It’s an ecumenical matter

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/mumsnetclassics/3527870-Which-is-the-tastiest-Protestant-traybake?utmcampaign=thread&utmmedium=appshare

the summary is basically how much better Protestants are at baking especially for a wake

ChipshopPickledEgg · 28/03/2026 17:00

The link has broken but I can certainly imagine 😆.

So I've just accidentally eaten four red velvet hot cross buns from marks and Spencer. I do Easter well me.

Frugal25 · 28/03/2026 18:06

@ChipshopPickledEgg if you can't do Easter well you must be broken. Good girl. I may follow suit.

@Lockin26 yay for your scan and I love the tunes loud and driving with no care. How lovely for you.
@MuddlingLong yay for your DW bonus. Enjoy it and the pottery class!

@DirtyGertiefromno30how is your lovely mum?

I spent today sorting out the garage. Two trips to the dump later and I'm not done yet.
Things are tidier but I'm going to keep going with it I think. I've watched too much sort your life out.
£8.50 on rubble sacks to take things to the dump which was better than what the other half wanted to do which was order a skip. Yes. I threw out that much.
Very proud of myself though and I even sorted all the screws into size order. Took forever. I had 3 jam jars and four Tupperware full of them!
I can't see what I'm typing so hope this is ok.

Never heard of Brian from hull.... I need educating!!
Safe travels Big skies. Avoid dodgy areas!!

RumBananaSundae · 28/03/2026 18:19

Spent about £6.09 in Aldi and £90 onto my travelcard today. Bought a travel guide for £15.99 in Waterstones. Met a friend yesterday for an exhibition and had tea and scones after so a bit of spending there.

Glad you had a grand time away @BigSkies2022.

Good about the taster session @MuddlingLong. I hope it goes well.

That’s good news @Lockin26.

Hope you enjoyed your hike @NursieBernard.

I have found Grimm on Prime so will watch some of that this evening and think about a holiday for next year. And am eyeing up a TGTG.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 28/03/2026 18:47

Thank you for recognition of my efforts I consider it a career highlight worthy of a spot at the oscars.

Frugal25 · 28/03/2026 18:51

Oohhh shall have a look for Grimm. @RumBananaSundae

I am very happy to present the Oscar. Well deserved. @ChipshopPickledEgg

ChipshopPickledEgg · 28/03/2026 19:06

I'm hoping that this thread runs out quickly so I can use my special Easter egg themed username 😆

Lockin26 · 28/03/2026 22:14

£1.61 coop, two ingredients for a curry.

Hopefully got rid of some old fencing and wood for free via Marketplace - someone coming to look tomorrow and if not the handyman wants it on Tuesday. DH has been concerned moaning that when he takes the old shed down it will be hard to get rid of so this might help convince him otherwise. Cleared out six Kallax boxes and moved into new white ones in the living room. Opened an ISA as the IFA wants me to ring fence some savings before the end of the tax year. Luckily I'd only put a few hundred in this tax year so far.
