Just that really. Trying to cut back on expenditure and wondered what people have? We pay for Netflix and Disney plus separately and have Amazon prime.

I have Now TV Entertainment at £2.99 and Now Cinema at £2.99, plus Boost at £6 per month so we don't have the adverts. Also Netflix mainly for DS, and occasionally Apple TV when there's a new season of Slow Horses.

Allmyghosts · 30/06/2023 11:38

I have an ancient pc I watch things on, was planning to buy a TV but tbh can't be arsed. Can watch anything on the Internet without faffing with apps, bonus of no ads anywhere. I'm spoiled and get infuriated by ads now.

We cancelled a £85 a month Sky subscription earlier in the year. They didn’t try very hard to keep us! Don’t miss it.

We have Netflix, Disney plus (free with a holiday), Amazon Prime and a rolling Now subscription as I like And just like that. Will cancel when show is over. In all, about £30 a month.

verabarbleen · 30/06/2023 17:47

Someone else's Disney plus, we pay for Amazon prime and then just watch things on I player and itv catchup etc . We don't have live tv but you can watch stuff live . We use a computer through our tv screen so just have a special wireless keyboard to watch what we like when we like. Sometime I get Netflix for a month and then cancel it etc if there is something on there I fancy watching .

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 30/06/2023 17:50

Now box. Netflix.

How do I access BBC, ITV etc without a skybox. Excuse my ignorance on this but I’ve had it for 25 years so I’m not sure what my options are!

I'd keep the skybox and use that to watch other channels if you're looking at keeping live tv. You'll still get all the free channels through it.

I think they turn it off after a few years but you might go back to them by then anyway.

Haleso · 01/07/2023 07:44

Thanks everyone for your advice. I’m tied in a contract until mid September so will
cancel mid August. It’s going to save me £600 a year if I just get rid of it and keep the other subscriptions.

We have a freesat box that’s recordable, so we can still pause and rewind etc.
I love it. Dh hates it as he’s never worked out how to use it. it has buttons for iplayer, itvx and demand. Demand is prime, youtube etc. it’s better than our old sky box was and no monthly paying.
only think it doesn’t have is All4, which is annoying.

Perfect28 · 01/07/2023 07:50

We have a chromecast on each tv and we vary the subscriptions we use

sanityisamyth · 01/07/2023 08:08

BBC iPlayer
BritBox app
Prime video
UKTV Play app

sanityisamyth · 01/07/2023 08:11

@IncomingTraffic Which port does she go in?!

If you don’t have Sky what do you I have instead?
Dbank · 01/07/2023 08:24

Freesat, and a Freesat compatible TV. (yours might be) but you can also get separate boxes.

Freest uses the same dish as Sky.

VintageThoughts · 01/07/2023 08:31

I've just cancelled 'proper sky' and now pay £15 a month, rolling contract which I can cancel any time. I still get all the bog standard channels and can record what I want and can also access catch up.

I just don't have the sky channels any more which I never watched anyway.

Runnersandtoms · 01/07/2023 08:35

As above, Netflix, Prime and Disney plus we watch All 4, iplayer etc. Never had sky. We still constantly find films we want to watch that aren't on any of our services though which is annoying.

User13985094 · 01/07/2023 08:38

Have you got the Sky+HD or SkyQ, if it is the old Sky+HD you keep that box as it's yours and can watch the free channels through freesat, I think. If it's a Sky Q box you have to return it and they will charge you if you don't so keep your return receipt. The Sky forums I find are quite useful for information.

TheCheeseTray · 01/07/2023 08:42

Netflix one screen - I had 5 but other people were using it so I cut it down
Amazon prime - mainly for deliveries
Disney paid for with Tesco club card boost things

User13985094 · 01/07/2023 08:58

If you watch Sky Atlantic, Now TV is probably the best as you can get a lot of offers and access to the general Sky channels. If you watch Eurosport a lot as my DH does, you can subscribe to Discovery+, with these you can pay monthly so no 18 month contract like Sky which is the killer.

Our contract with Sky ends this month so I am keeping a beady eye on the price as I have not re contracted or cancelled yet, we have the old Sky+HD multiroom boxes and I suspect we will end up cancelling if it goes up at all as I don't want another contract

xogossipgirlxo · 01/07/2023 09:23

Cheapest netflix, 4.99

DeathMetalMum · 01/07/2023 09:31

Dc's have a smart TV. We have a now TV box downstairs and Roku upstairs. Use clubcard points for disney plus and then rotate between Netflix/Prime or neither. We tend to have Prime October onwards to help with Xmas deliveries and there's often football which we enjoy watching.

We also have an xbox which we use for Disney+ and Netflix/Prime it's not necessary but it's connected to router via a wire so overall better connection for streaming. We could watch all of those via the now TV box.

Ariela · 01/07/2023 09:51

We have Freeview only, a TV licence, we watch all the channels on catch up via our broadband, and if we want to watch something on Amazon (eg Clarkson's Farm) when I next need to buy something on Amazon, we get a free month's trial of Amazon Prime and use it to its full extent. Have not yet watched 2nd series as didn't need to buy anything when it came out, and being summer we are busy outdoors and watch far, far less TV, so will get Prime after the clock change as I'm sure I can find something to buy on Amazon by then.

DRS1970 · 01/07/2023 09:54

Freeview, YouTube, Pluto TV.

You can still watch a few channels with the hd box but you lose a lot of functions including the record, we also lost all our recordings.
I was surprised how many normal free channels we lost

BatshitCrazyWoman · 01/07/2023 10:03

Amazon firestick, and I pay for Netflix and Prime. It's just me in the house though, and I'm out at work for long days, so I don't watch loads. For BBC, ITV and Channel 4 programmes, I watch them on catch up via the firestick. I can't actually remember the last time I watched live TV!

Nolongera · 01/07/2023 10:29

Freeview and or Freesat.

People advertising IPTV should be aware this is illegal, they are selling stuff they don't own.

If being legal matters to you, the various catch-ups for the main channels are great, and UKTV now has an app that works on most smart TVs ( previously I think it only worked on Samsungs), we watch that a fair bit. Dave, Yesterday, Drama and quite a few others.

Or torrents if you aren't bothered about copyright etc.

Reugny · 01/07/2023 10:40

Freeview plus roku sticks

Amazon Prime because of the other benefits attached to it.

Netflix which I realised only DD watches so it should be canceled this month..

Disney+ because I got a reduced price subscription linked to my mobile contract for 9 months then realised everyone actually watches it, so paid for a year.

Britbox which everyone watches. They seem to do lots of random offers.

Use to have NowTV before we paid for Disney+ and Britbox. However series disappeared.
