£203 for a day of work - thought I'd share for those who fancy it

I do this a lot but thought I'd share for those who may not be aware - it's a long day (very long!) but easy money

Councils are currently recruiting for polling clerks. The pay is £183 for the day (obviously 4th May!) plus £20 for the easy online training.

Just fill in the form online, no interview required, position allocated to you within a day or so.

I don't actually 'work' for the council! I run my own business but I do this when I can as it's nice and easy - although long!

Any questions, just ask away and I'll see if I can answer

I expect you're right, SweetSakura but a more prolific bunch of crooks I've never known. The idea of 'safe pair of hands' makes me laugh. Grin
I'm glad that mere mortals can have a chance to earn this money now. In fact, it should be unavailable to council staff, unless they want to forgo their pay for the duration.

Oh how sad. I am really proud of the council where I work and think very highly of my colleagues.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/05/2023 19:15

Sorry, SweetSakura, I wasn't being entirely serious. I still work with several of my former colleagues but am no longer in that council. There were many, many incidents of financial misappropriation but mainly in the higher ranks. I didn't think highly of those colleagues, they should have been in prison.

I do think that these roles should be opened up to members of the public though so I'm glad that that's happened.

There's crooks in every professionbut it makes me angry when public money is involved. Sadly, we only hear about the crooks, not the hard-working staff who actually keep the councils going.

How did everyone get in today?

I had a busy day with lovely people and not real issues with the voter ID.

Sorry pressed post too early!

Same I enjoyed it and didn't drag at all! Definitely helped my team were lovely & no major issues with the id either. Would definitely do it again! Thanks to op for recommending it.

I had forgotten that my polling station had moved from a rather gloomy internal room in the sports centre into the dance studio, which has a lot more natural light. So my polling clerks are like battery chickens who have become free range 😁Hope you all had pleasant surroundings with access to natural light, if not the ability to wander freely.

vera99 · 10/05/2023 10:33

Were there any photo id issues on the day ?

redspottedmug · 10/05/2023 16:32

Out of nearly 800 voters I had to turn 2 away. It was actually particularly sad in one case. The other could've easily popped home and got their ID but chose not too.

lalalalalala123 · 10/05/2023 22:10

We had to turn about 15 away due to no id or incorrect id but I think all but 2 returned with them and no one made a real fuss

How does this work tax wise? Do you get paid through PAYE?

Chowtime · 27/05/2023 16:49

I did this for the first time this year on account of seeing this thread.

I normally work with people with dementia so it was nice to talk to normal people all days lol.

It was great fun - a long day but everyone was in good humour. well except one grumpy old man who wasn't allowed to bring his dog in .

My question now is - how do i do it again? Will they contact me again automatically for the next one?

redspottedmug · 31/05/2023 14:08

Take a good book for the PCC one. Usually a low low turnout.
